Ciao , Hello , Welcome .

Agree with Franca Brange you are being a bit neurotic . WHen she starts colouring only in black on everything and poking out the eyes of her dolls, teddies and yours then maybe get worried!

I know I am. I was quite surprised that the thought even occurred to me. I must be picking up other people's neuroses. There's one woman whose child is obviously made out of bone china or something as so far everything the teachers have done/all the school rules is a problem. FFS,they've only been there 2 weeks.

Yesterday at the park a few children were already in puffa jackets and a couple even had a scarf. DD was just in a T shirt. Luckily she wasn't the only one but there weren't many.

francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2008 14:24

He bloody has timbrini, but try to make him do something structured... I think it is normal to get neurotic at times. I do swear, I tend to worry about ds. He is clever, and curious, but has no interest whatsoever in letters, reading etc. He loves drawing, but he is not precise, not very good . I suppose that it's more important he's eager to draw things rather than what he actually does . dd on the other hand draws beautifully, and copy letters much better than he does.

Rosa, not sure how it works. It used to be that you needed a certificato after 5 days of assenza for illness. I'm not sure if it's still like that. And dunno if you have to pay for it.

Lol Brange, it was quite warm yesterday. Mine were in short sleeves at the park, see, I'm English!

Rosa · 19/09/2008 14:26

We had meeting this am with dd teachers. They said that they could see we were genitori tranquilli and that dd was doing well ( Proud smile). I joked about genitori dressing di marca as I was of course in head to tail Valentino and dh in gian franco ferre. And they said dd was dressed adaptly - Matalan leggings and t shirts . Today she did wear a sweatshirt and giacca - Simply as the route we take it is blowing whatever weather.
Am going to decathlon and getting cheapo track suits for when it gets colder! Seeing as Franca always gets bargains thought I would jump on band wagon. ( well maybe not the jump bit I could break it !)

Yes, I've spotted a few puffa jackets here too.

A bit here too at your MIL's treatment Rosa, can you find someone to look after her for a month or so? Shouldn't be really as a friend of DH's just had a horrendous experience, not only did they cut a major artery during his surgery, they then left him alone in a room where the bell didn't work and he passed out on the floor. Then they put him with a barbone who was pissing on the floor and riffling through his bag.

Funny thing was he has private insurance but was persuaded to go pubblic with supposedly shit-hot primario blah blah.

Rosa · 19/09/2008 14:31

DOnt think MIl will be too keen on badante / stranieri in casa. They had one when FIl was ill and she was a bit erratic. We might have to go down that way but we need somebody who can help her in the bathroom as sedia will not fit so we were thinking some of those disabled handles etc. Thing is as she is staying with friend ( who worked with with vecchi in hosp) we have a bit more time .
I saw a girl about age 7 with winter coat with fur collar !!!!

Yes I have talked DH into a trip to Decathlon and H&M tomorrow, thanks for the tip Franca!

Here you need a certificate after 5 days absence, but it's free.

francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2008 14:39

Yes, scarpe da ginnastica for 7 euros @ decathlon. They aren't the most beautiful trainers on the market but perfect for ginnastica at school, or park. I also bought ciabatte for ds for swimming lessons for 5 euros! have to go get dd

Brangelina · 19/09/2008 14:39

Ooh, everyone around here goes to Decathlon for children's clothes. DD is practically the only one not to posses any Decathlon kit. Apart from one wetsuit that is, that she's never worn.

Am really excited that there's a new centro commerciale accessibile by bicycle (all impatto zero apparently) and there's an H&M. Before that I had to go to another horrible centro commerciale or to Milano.

Alas no Zara home though. Probably for the best I suppose.

francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2008 15:38

I think decathlon is great for kitting (have I just invented this word?) them out with sporty stuff. My fav children shop is still dpam. Plus, when I feel rich, there's one in via vigevano which is delightful (but very expensive)

Brangelina · 19/09/2008 16:01

Is that the one with all the hand-made stuff? About halfway down, near the road that goes to Libraccio. Or has that been superceded since I moved away? There was a lovely shop in Via Ferrari which was prohibitive but had lots of gorgeous clothes for girls. The owner used to hang around with the guy from the hash shop and oddly enough both shops were often closed at strange hours. It's a wonder they made any money. She always used to say hello to me as we knew hash guy and I felt embarrassed as I never bought anything from her.

I'm a DPAM fan too, don't really do totally "utilitarian" clothing, or at least not very often. I was one of those dreadful people oft maligned on here who put their 3mo in jeans. Yep, I am guilty.

francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2008 16:23

I loved the shop in via Ferrari, it belonged to the same people who own mariza tassy (which is a boutique I love, but prohibitive). It is now closed.
No, the one in via Vigevano used to be somewhere else (nr arco della pace, maybe), it's towards the station and stocks brands from the netherlands, like imps and elfs, very cool.

francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2008 16:23

mariza tassy is still open, it's the children shop that is closed

Brangelina · 19/09/2008 16:27

Oooh, I feel a trip to Milan coming on....

I really must organise myself, I have a few appointments next week but I should manage at least 1 free afternoon, albeit with DD.

francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2008 17:51

Next week a bit hectic for me too (despite not being really working ). I think tuesday and Thurs morning I can make.

Brangelina · 20/09/2008 13:20

Mornings might be a bit difficult for me as that's when I've organised my appointments. I'll have to see what I can do. If not we could do another week maybe.

Took DD to her first ballet lesson this morning. She was dancing and singing in front of the mirrors before the lesson but as soon as it started she froze and it took the teacher half the lesson to coax her away from my leg. She said she enjoyed it though and was suitably tired when we got back so I'll take her next week too. At home she was showing nonna all the moves.

Sputnik · 21/09/2008 22:07

Wow, Decathlon on a saturday around 6 o'clock is not for wimps

We did manage to bag a pair of 10 euro shoes for DD though. I'll get her some "proper" shoes in a few weeks when winter is here.

DelGirl · 21/09/2008 22:25

Buona sera Sputnik I don't know if you emailed me again but I've not had anything.. Shall I email you again?

I'm booked to come over on the 2nd of October now to Pisa and will am looking for somewhere for the 1st night, cheap and cheerful as it will just be a quick stopover on my way to Montasola. Any recommendation for somewhere near the E35 about an hour or so from Pisa and easy to find?

Spending 3rd to 12th in Montasola so hopefully we can meet up. Anyone else near the vicinity fancy meeting for an espresso?

Whilst i'm on here, have any of you heard of the mobile network 3G in Italy and are they any good?

grazie

Sputnik · 21/09/2008 22:43

No sorry this time it was just me being crap and not getting around to it. DD went back to school and it's been a bit hectic.

Ok, just discusing this 3G business with DH, it's a type of network and each provider has their own. Do you want to get a device to go online with? As it happens we use one from vodaphone as there is no broadband where we live (was no broadband, they switched it on on friday, hooray). So the vodaphone 1 works here and may well work in Montasola. He says the only way to know if you can get 3G on particular network in a particular area is to go there and try it.

DelGirl · 21/09/2008 23:05

no worries about the email .

Yes, I'm hoping to take my pc but i've seen a small laptop and have been told that 3g have a network there. I guess it's just going into the local shop wherever that may be and asking them. I can't do without internet when i'm there next year I would feel too cut off. Just one of the things I shall look into when I'm there in 2 weeks. I'll look into vodafone as well as i'll need to get a mobile whilst i#m there next year too. I may well live at my bro's next year now and they don't have a phone line but I can try and sort that out. Anyway, sorry, am 'thinking out loud' and should go to bed.

francagoestohollywood · 22/09/2008 14:01

Brang, next week I'll be back on wednesday from a short to trip to Exeter, where I'll see friends, and mostly stock on M&S biscuits, contac from boots, peppa pig magazines and Living Etc. Yuppie (dh has a workshop there e io ne approfitto)

Help, poor ds seems to have been put in a class with lots of pushy mothers. Today one complained that they "didn't do much in two weeks" . I mean, are these people serious? or am I too laid back?

francagoestohollywood · 22/09/2008 14:09

Del girl, here is a brief research of hotels in Volterra (very pretty town). How about the first one? is it too expensive?hotels in volterra

Rosa · 22/09/2008 14:14

Franca you are not . SIL says one of her dd teachers is a mess, total hippy and they are going to complain - My question was well can she teach ? Meglio che sto zitta !!
today dd happy to go to school but after they told her she had to sit for merenda she has a bit of a wriggly bum - She went and did pipi adosso not once but twice. I called them later as dh went to pick her up as she has not wet herself for months now. They reckon she was being naughty and attention seeking Seeing as she had to stay to the regole - which is right. So am hoping it was a one off - also as I dont have any more pairs of non slip socks !! Tis a bit of a worry though.
Exeter - have a ball . I am munching Daim bars bought in Ikea on sat . i was there at 9.am and got almost all I need - some they did not have in stock !

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 22/09/2008 14:22

I wouldn't mind a hippy teacher. Plus, I'll hold any judgement until the first quadrimestre.
Your poor dd! It has happened at times that dd/ds peed themselves at nursery (once dd pooed herself in the garden, just a tiny bit before I picked her up and didn't tell anyone and buried the poo somewhere and I had to ring the nursery... ). Sometimes they are too absorbed in playing , sometimes they get all shy and don't say....
Confession time: once I peed myself at ballet school (I was 8 ) because the direttrice was teaching us and mi vergognavo to say I needed the toilet

Been to ikea this morning with friend and bought the sweet and sour gurkins....

Sputnik · 22/09/2008 16:48

Delgirl I just emailed you again, it's from a different address than the one you sent to. Let me know if you don't get it.
