Ciao , Hello , Welcome .

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2008 17:54

I'm afraid Brangelina that comformismo is creeping up nationwide. I've also realised that ds's school is not as mixed as I was hoping, lots of mothers with nice hair and louis vuitton .
I didn't think much about the religion thing as (stupid stupid franca) coming from the UK, I totally forgot that in Italy it will be only bloody catholicism. So, I'm waiting for the first meeting with teachers to find out what they do in ora alternativa and swap to it. If of course there are enough children doing ora alternativa .

Brangelina · 15/09/2008 18:02

I know there's at least one other child doing ora alternativa and from the look of it the mother is a campaigning militante type. There are also 2 muslim children. On the wall of DD's classroom however are at least 6 names but then maybe they're last year's children and have left.

I'm not fussed what they do as alternative activity, they can do bricklaying and plumbing for all I care (now that's a useful skill to have) but it can't be any more pointless than catechismo.

Sputnik · 15/09/2008 18:14

One of the things that put me off the school in the village I actually live in was the fact that the only decoration in the dining hall was a large banner saying "religione cattolica".

Sputnik · 15/09/2008 18:16

Franca I think they are obliged to offer the alternative even if there's only 1 child. Of course that doesn't stop the conveniently "forgetting", as happened to us.

francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2008 18:46

I don't care what they do during the ora alternativa either, as long as they do something. I wouldn't want it to turn in an hour of nothing for ds and those who choose it. Plus, he really enjoyed doing RE in the UK, I think children go though a phase where they are really interested and a bit mystic , this is why I conveniently forgot that we (italy) are a country of bigots.
at your scuola materna sputnik! No such thing in dd's , luckily...........

The more I see that Gelmini woman, the more I'm determined to join any kind of sciopero, manifestazione against her.

Rosa · 16/09/2008 09:53

LOL at image of Brang flowing hair with 666 tattoo string of garlic ( no thats for witches no?)facing up to plump traditional materna teacher. I will cross that bridge when we come to it. When I got married I said that dd would be brought up a catholic and she will but she is going to study all those things that they have to with this fantastic priest who is so open minded and down to earth it is great. He explains other religions and when we were in one of his services he did this fab bit for children about muslims and football supporters !! ( Not all football supporters go and trash stadiums and fight ) - Not all muslims go round trying to blow other people up.
Today MIL is getting operated on . As in all female reporto Dh said he will go down just before and be there dopo when she comes round etc if SIL wanted to go down a bit before and just be with her as obviously she will be nervosa etc etc. SIL said she would go down after dropping of dc at school. He just called her she was having her feet done !!!!!
Off to get dd now she still seems happy - when will her crisi come ????

Sputnik · 16/09/2008 11:33

There's a bizarre priest round our way who is liable to sing Ave Maria followed by Bandiera Rossa! They are not all bad

francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2008 12:40

Rosa, hope the opration goes well, keep us posted .

Happy to hear you dd is settling in nicely, moments of crisis do arrive (though it is not the rule), sometimes months later. Do you find the teachers affettuose? that is very important IMR.

Sputni, true, there are some fantastic priest around, especially those who don't follow the Vatican too much. In Milan we had cardinale Martini, who is a great man.

francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2008 12:41

IMR??? IME, better

Rosa · 16/09/2008 12:43

If you ask dd who her amicetti are at school she says Valentina ...a teacher!!! The teachers seem to be caring and do cuddle the smaller ones. dd just needs a cuddle when she goes bang ..at the moment!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2008 12:57

Sweet!!! I think that at your dd's age the relationship with the carer is more important than the relationship with their peers. Dd started to have simpatie for a specific child after 2.5, I think.

Brangelina · 16/09/2008 13:54

It's so nice when they get cuddles, I think DD is suffering a bit now as the maestre at the materna don't really do the cuddling bit. The nice one will pick her up when she's distressed but the older one will just leave her.

I hope she's settling in OK, she now cries in the mornings when I leave her and when I ask her after school what she's done I get the reply "nothing". What did you play with? "nothing", who did you play with? "no one" and so on all in a despondent tone. I do feel a bit angosciata, we had none of this at nido, she was far more enthusiastic.

I think it's quite a big leap from the cosy, cuddly atmosphere of the nido to the more scolastic set up of the materna. I'm a bit sad for DD as she's a real coccolona but I suppose she has to get used to the real world.

Rosa · 16/09/2008 15:13

Oh how sad - do they not give them a buddy an older one to a younger one so they have a friend ? I hope she settles in it would tear me apart if dd cries ( hormone alert)After all you think you are doing whats best for them. Materna should still be coccole I think as they are still little. May your dd get the nice cuddly teacher all the time !

Sputnik · 16/09/2008 16:11

I know how you feel Brange. After going in no problem yesterday my DD got very upset this morning and had to be torn away from me crying. I am feeling a bit down about it, as we went through weeks of this last year too and she had only just got over it when term ended.

I don't think it's the seperation from me so much as she just doesn't really enjoy school.

francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2008 17:19

Oh no, poor mini Brange and little Sputnik . I didn't enjoy scuola materna either, mainly because I didn't go regularly as I had to attend bloody physio thing for my eyes and never got into routines.

Dd didn't like going to nido for quite a while in the UK, but then settled down and loved it. She loved the materna she went to until the summer (she was going to a private one) and she seems to enjoy her new classe as well. But I must say we've been lucky, as the two teachers really look very nice, calm and always smiling (plus during the inserimento I was really impressed seeing one of them dealing with a little boy who had hurt another one in the garden.)

Not so impressed with ds's school. They are still waiting for the insegnante di matematica

PippiCalzelunghe · 16/09/2008 17:55

The computer has now been fixed so I am officially back!!!

So how are the dds? Thanks again for the guardian. I miss it. We are going to exeter for 3 days soon, but we'll get there on sunday, so will miss it . I miss my house.

Hello rosa and sputnik! dds are great thanks. dd2 still a no-fuss baby and dd1 is so sweet, content and happy. thought I'd have a million children like angelina but I've already changed my mind. not sure body can take it.life easy actually except for leak and other boring stuff house related which have very little interest tbh (house is shaping up ok too).

and you all? what's happened to house in exeter?

rosa how's pg going? was in italy on and off throughout but reason for disappearing was a buggered pc. mind you it does mean so much less spending...

House in Exeter has been rented, the tenants should move in by the end of the month (fingers crossed). It is better this way, as we might go back if things don't work out here (thanks to 0 money given to research in this crap country).

Hothell/med is being a bit secchiona and doesn't come on here often (I miss her), but pg is going well and should pop soon.

Brangelina is fine, though her dd still settling in in scuola materna (she preferred nido)

My ds turned 6 and morphed into a major pain in the neck as, all of a sudden, he's become jealous of his sister, which never really happened in the past. He is adjusting to scuola elementare, but claims he wants to go to asilo until he is 8 .

dd is settling in her new scuola materna very well.

This morning I mostly cleaned the bathroom which now looks like a specchio. It'll turn into a pigsty once the other 3 members of my family are back from their day at work... I'\m listening to Blur and feeling young (ish)
