I actually think Raising kids is a very good sight and would recommend people have a look at it for themselves. Like mums there is a big community of helpful people.

Chinchilla · 11/01/2003 19:19

WWW - I would just like to say thanks for your support on RK, on the 'I get so angry' thread. I am Suzannem, and appreciate the fact that not everyone thought that I was wrong! Maybe I did upset people, but I was just trying to be fair to the original poster. I do get so cross on other people's behalf sometimes!

WideWebWitch · 11/01/2003 20:20

Chinchilla, you're welcome! I thought you were right and they were very hard on the poor poster. Bet she doesn't go back there for advice! Am I missing something there on RK though? There don't seem to be very many current conversations and yet they seem to have thousands of members, many of whom have never posted. Did they have a huge competition or something that got lots of new members signing up? Lots of them seemed to have joined on the same date. I wasn't that impressed with the quality of the discussions I saw (no offence intended to anyone who is a poster there) I have to say. I only looked at a few though so maybe I missed the good ones? Anyway, I think I'll stick to mumsnet. There isn't time in my life for an addiction to another site so just as well really I also didn't like the fact that if you choose to be visible they show what operating system, version of IE you are running, time on site etc. Why? Not that I care if anyone knows I have XP or whatever but it just seemed like unnecessary information.

easy · 11/01/2003 20:39

just thought I'd say, I used RK for a few months before I found Mumsnet. read many of the discussion threads, but only made about 6 or 8 postings, cos sometimes I felt a bit intimidated by some of ther regulars, who seem to be experts on everything.
I came to mumsnet after a mention on RK about 2 wks ago, and since then I try to find time to visit every day and have posted loads.
Just seems to suit me better I suppose, and I like the way the threads are laid out, and it's quick.

BTW Chinchilla, I supported you on the "I get so angry" thread. We seem to have similar views (and Children).

Temptress · 11/01/2003 21:25

The reason so many seem to have signed on the same day on Raising Kids is because the site address changed and users were transfered to the new one.

Alibubbles · 12/01/2003 11:13

Mumsnet is mentionned in the Sunday Times today

tigermoth · 12/01/2003 14:31

oh can anyone do a link please?

I've tried to do a search via the sunday times site - no luck there either.

Alibubbles · 12/01/2003 17:01

It's in the Culture section - Doors, diamond 50 websites

www.mumsnet.com

Parenting is a daunting business when well meaning relations are holding forth about how baby should be looked after. In contrast this exceptionally lively, welcoming site for both prospective and experienced mothers never preaches, but offers practical, relevant help, mostly from parents who are going through similar experiences.

The easy to search "Find the Best" section reports consumer opinions on items such as child car seats and highchairs, while experts advise on how to teach junior skills such as swimming and reading.
There are even tips on the toughest parenting trick of all - how to persuade dad to change afew nappies.

OKay!

tigermoth · 13/01/2003 09:43

thanks alibubbles!

MandyD · 25/01/2003 11:50

Anyone else finding UKParents not opening this morning? Mind you, Mumsnet seems very slow as well, may be my ISP!

Rhiannon · 25/01/2003 12:42

Same here, ukp can't access, Mumsnet slow but getting better.

suedonim · 25/01/2003 14:12

Is it anything to do with this BBC news story ? Mind you, atm my cable spends most of its time down anyway, boohoo.

PamT · 25/01/2003 19:45

I'm with ntl and have been having trouble with a slow/non existent internet service all week but I haven't been able to get on at all for 24 hours up to about 20 minutes ago. I've been having panic attacks all day!!

I am stunned that you all have the time to log on and chat on other sites ... It is all I can do to keep up with Mumsnet! Besides, DH is really jealous of my mumsnet mates ... just think what he would be like if I joined another site? I love mumsnet and love the idea that I am mature and intellectual ... I am nearly 33 but I am NOT mature and definitely not intellectual!
Here's to Mumsnet and all who sail in her!

Chinchilla · 26/01/2003 18:47

I always look at UKP and RK after checking out the last day's input here first. However, RK hardly ever has any new topics, and I usually stick to a few main discussion headings in UKP. So, most of my time is spent here. It makes me smile, as you see the same old faces on other sites...obviously none of us can be bothered to have new names on different sites!

PamT · 26/01/2003 19:37

I use the same name because it would be far too taxing on my brain to use different ones, I have all on working out the different passwords. Through the chat room on UKP I have discovered a few of the mumsnet regulars who do have different names which is all very interesting.

EmmaTMG · 30/01/2003 07:08

Can anyone else get into UKp? I've been trying for nearly 3 days now and it doesn't come up. I'm new to the computer world so don't really know if it's my own 'puter or something from them.
I'm soooooo glad I can still get on here, I need my daily fix and thankfully can always rely on the fabulous Mumsnet...phew

PamT · 30/01/2003 07:34

I've only managed to get into UKP a couple of times since last Friday. I managed about 1/2 hour on Sunday evening I think and then finally got into Chat on Monday night but not until 11ish. On Tuesday afternoon Simon put a message on to say that their server was badly affected by the Slammer worm but he was expecting it to be sorted out that day.

I think this worm is still very active as I'm having trouble with several sites and even my ntl homepage doesn't always load. Most irritating

Rhiannon · 30/01/2003 07:34

I think there's server problems. Hopefully they'll be back today.

cas1968 · 30/01/2003 11:51

Hi PamT.

The ntlworld homepage thing is "another" problem!! It is listed on the "Check Server Status page on their site, if you ever manage to get it to load
