I deleted babyworld from my list of favourites when I noticed someone had a (helpful) reference to a website deleted and I was told by the 'moderator' that this was standard practice to get rid of refs to 'competitors' sites. in that kind of world the BBC would hire hitmen to sabotage the ITV, Sky, Channel 4 buttons on all the tv sets in the world. boo to babyworld

Furball · 06/01/2003 22:13

Isn't it BABYCENTRE with the different month antenatal groups? Sorry for being picky but just checking!

Temptress · 06/01/2003 22:18

Im not sure if they do but Babyworld certainly does the monthly ones

Furball · 07/01/2003 11:10

Just been there and its tosh. well my Ds's birthmonth is! Yours you probably know the people better if you are a regular. There were only six posts in the last week.

I'll stick to what I know.

oxocube · 07/01/2003 11:37

Can I be really thick here and confess that I didn't even know they WERE other sites such as this one! (I'm sure they're not as good though!)

Tissy · 07/01/2003 11:40

Just spent the last hour looking at UKP- dreadfully slow- not a patch on Mumsnet!

Temptress · 07/01/2003 22:10

I guess it does depend on which month your baby was born. A lot in the November club still post so I guess that makes it a lot more interesting. Has there been a problem with this site tonight... and a bit earlier on as well..ive had trouble getting in?

AngieL · 07/01/2003 22:39

Hi
I've used Raising Kids for a while now and I've always found them really helpful and you don't seem to get all the backbiting that you get on other sites.

I'm surprised to see that some of the people on here though that don't seem to like RK are still posting. Guess they don't dislike it that much!

susanmt · 08/01/2003 09:24

My antenatal club on Babyworld (Feb 2002) is actually great, very supportive and I've made some good friends through it. It's the rest of the site I'm not so keen on!!

cas1968 · 08/01/2003 10:58

Lol, lol!! I've just discovered this site, due to the arguments that went on yesterday on UKP.

So, I'd just like to say hi. My name's Carol, I'm 34, have one son who's 5 next month and I'm 8 months pg. My username on UKP is Mattsmum. Couldn't use it here - already taken.

Looking forward to making some more new friends and being involved with what looks like another fab site

justiner · 08/01/2003 11:07

Hi all,
Just thought I'd reinforce the point that mumsnet would not try and stop anyone from talking about other sites (as this thread and plenty of others prove). For a start most of the references people make provide useful information as do many other parenting sites. Of course there's always the danger that people use the boards for free advertising and we would intervene if we thought this was the case, not least to try and squeeze some revenue out of whoever was doing the advertising - in practice members have tended to intervene on mumsnet's behalf and tell any self promoter where to go! But we realised some time ago that there's only one way to encourage people not to leave and that's to be good enough to compete - spending time trying to stop people finding out about the competition seems like a waste of time to us and ultimately doomed to failure. To sum up our policy is to intervene as little as possible. We won't tolerate racism, downright offensiveness and libelous comments that could put the site at risk but in three years we've deleted under ten posts/ threads for these reasons and cancelled people's membership only three times. In the main we find that, thanks to you, the boards are fantastically self-regulating. Long may that last.

CAM · 08/01/2003 12:29

hello Justine, when is your baby due? Hope everything is going well for you...

justiner · 08/01/2003 12:45

Hi Cam,
Baby due at end month but would like it to come sooner, so am tempting fate by not getting anything ready - probably a very bad idea... thanks for asking.

Chinchilla · 08/01/2003 12:47

AngieL - I noticed that too! I do have the odd look at RK, but am still a bit peeved about TWoodford's attitude, so have not posted again. Having said that, I noticed that she has posted on other threads without being censorious, and may become a more regular poster in future. I don't know if I would be very welcome there after causing a bit of a ruck!

PamT · 08/01/2003 12:50

Hi Cas, I've seen you on the other side and I too was appalled by yesterday's childishness, I tend to stay out of those arguments. Welcome to Mumsnet, I hope you enjoy the adult conversation here, and congratulations on your pregnancy, when are you due?

In general TWoodford's replies are very good chinchilla and I know she is one of the longer standing members on RK. I dont judge people by one comment they make as we all have different views. There are views by others on mums I wouldnt agree with but at the end of the day I respect their views as I hope they respect mine. It would be a boring world if we all acted the same

Rhiannon · 08/01/2003 14:59

Oh UKP has gone again. How is a girl supposed to make a living? I was just about to buy a GameBoy game too.

oxocube · 08/01/2003 16:36

"No rude sex talk, please": does this mean we would have no threads entitled 'Wife Swap', not to mention what WWW would like to do to David Beckham I love Mumsnet!

AngieL · 08/01/2003 17:00

Hi Chinchilla and Temptress

I'd also like to say that TWoodford (RK) does tend to give very good advice, she has helped me out in the past on several matters and I am really grateful.

I'm sure you would be welcomed back Chinchilla, as I said before there isn't much backbiting on RK and I think sometimes people should just agree to disagree. We are all doing the best we can for our kids, but we are probably all doing it differently.

I'm not very good at expressing myself in these forums, but I hope you get the gist of what I'm trying to say.

PamT · 08/01/2003 17:08

I think the no sex talk bit is just on the relationships/sex forum where people can discuss their problems but to discourage people from getting carried away and creating a perverts paradise.

Chinchilla · 08/01/2003 18:48

I probably will go back to RK, but I like Mumsnet more than RK or UKP. Might be length of use, but I do think that it is more user friendly than the other two. Also, I know the posters better. I did find UKP slow earlier.

So what arguments happened on UKP yesterday?

Tinker · 08/01/2003 19:09

I am the only one who used to love laughing at the baby names on UKP? And how Morrigan would always have a comment. God, she might be here!!!!!!

Alibubbles · 08/01/2003 19:27

There's no comparison, the format of Mumsnet is far more sophisticated and pleasing to look at. It takes for ever to read a thread on UKP. Mumsnet have no fear!

Claireandrich · 08/01/2003 19:48

My March 2002 group on Babyworld is fab too. People generally post really often and you feel very update with them all.

So, maybe it depends on your group and if you use it regularly or not.
