Khol rabi was very tasty Berrie .
Our garden has gone a bit to pot this year. The festival cuts right into the time when we should be gardening. We've had some taters (Mayan Gold, Pentland Javelin, Red Duke of York up to now) and the cabbages are coming on, as are the broad beans and peas. Leeks haven't done so well. Oh, dd has sneaked a few carrots too.

Do any of you have any experience of Afternoon Receptions with Lord Lieutenants? What does one wear to such occasions?
I take it jeans and docs are a no no?

Berrie · 04/07/2008 20:08

Er...I went to The Queen's Garden Party once and Fergie, acoompanied by the LL came to visit school also.
You don't want to see...no I don't want you to see what I wore. I could post you something but it would be far too big for you! What shops do you have nearest? I'll do an online makeover on you!
Seriously I could post you the green thing I wore to my brother's wedding, you can have it, I was about to charity shop it. Are you handy with a needle, it needs a tuck. It was from Monsoon.

Berrie · 04/07/2008 20:14

Have jus e-mailed you a pic.

oggsfrog · 04/07/2008 20:19

Seriously Berrie? That would be brilliant . Can do needley things to it if needed. What is it like?

I only own one thing from Monsoon and that's a hooded cardi that a friend bought for me about 10 years ago (no way could I have afforded it), but I love their stuff.

Dh is chuffed to bits to have been invited but it fills me with dread tbh. I'm not exactly the polite chit-chatty type.
What actually happens at these things?
Is food involved?

oggsfrog · 04/07/2008 20:27

Ooh, that looks nice (I love ds's suit).
Do you have cream trousers on under it? Flatties or heels? Would it go with flat shoes?

Berrie · 04/07/2008 20:59

Yup I would have thought there would be refreshments. Dh can do the talking...it'll be nice! Just ask other people what they do and let them yabber away!

Berrie · 06/07/2008 10:33

Morning all.
Quiet here this weekend.

FannyandWilly · 06/07/2008 10:38

Morning

oggsfrog · 06/07/2008 10:39

Morning

oggsfrog · 06/07/2008 10:41

'Tis quiet isn't it?
I need to go and start tidying. Dh has taken dd riding and this is supposed to be my chance to get the place straight. Have been mooching for over an hour though and achieved nothing. Must at least go and leave the hoover out so it looks as if I've been doing something

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 06/07/2008 10:45

You hob nobbers Oggs & Berrie! I'd offer to lend you stuff but I really don't have much - I did have a lovely Next pale pink shift dress & matching jacket (size 14, linen mix), which I bought last year for a christening - very Jackie O. But I washed the dress with something dark, so there's a bit of a mark on it . Your welcome to them if you want to try to make it ok - let me know - the mark may be hidden by the jacket. Sorry, no photo.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 06/07/2008 10:53

And I'm busy tidying too. I'm aiming for tidy-ish and clean-ish. I have been house sitting as DH stuck in London, but he's on the way back now. The carpets are going down, upstairs at least, on Tuesday with the au pair arriving on Wed - all it took was me walking out to get things sorted, clearly. DH is also going to look after DS for the WHOLE WEEK. Which will be interesting. The only question is, will the au pair last until Saturday night when I get back from London myself?

And having realised that dress was a size 14, and I fitted in it last September , Atkins is starting as of now. So when I get home I'll also be digging out my Darcey Bussell Does Pilates dvd, and my stepper!

LyraSilvertongue · 06/07/2008 14:24

Afternoon.
I've just spent a couple of hours on the children's tombola stall at the school's summer fete. The weather couldn't be worse for it.
I'm on my own for a few days as DP is on a plane to Japan via Siberia. And I'm ill and the house is a tip.
we went for another look at our new house on Friday so I'm very excited about that. Just got to get the mortgages sorted. I'm already planning my new kitchen

Berrie · 06/07/2008 16:19

Oh Dear Lyra, what is wrong? Flippin' tipping it down here too.

Zeb, does the farm still feel like home?

Oggs, Fanny and Willy?

I tried to get tickets for Dr Who as Hamlet and Picard as the other chap. So sold out...
Might go and see it when it goes to London though.

LyraSilvertongue · 06/07/2008 19:01

Aching all over, feverish, cold sweats in the night All for no apparent reason. Day Nurse is keeping me going and Night Nurse will send me off to sleep.
DP just rang from Siberia. He says it's all green and lush, like Scotland but flatter.

oggsfrog · 06/07/2008 20:35

Doesn't sound like much fumn Lyra . Hope it soon clears up.

Berrie · 07/07/2008 07:03

Hope you are feeling a bit better today Lyra.

Berrie · 07/07/2008 07:05

Berrie sends over a Nanny, a good book, a nice cup of tea and some make it better pills.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 07/07/2008 08:50

And choccy hobnobs. I hope you feel better soon.

LyraSilvertongue · 07/07/2008 18:24

No chance of a rest today - had to accompany 50 three and four year olds to the children's farm in the rain. I'm knackered now.
I'm looking forward to getting the boys into bed so I can put my feet up and catch up with EastEnders.

Berrie · 07/07/2008 22:00

yOU ARE mAAAAAAAD!

LyraSilvertongue · 07/07/2008 22:57

I know.
Off to bed now...

LyraSilvertongue · 07/07/2008 22:58

I didn't take them all on my own btw. There were other mums and teachers. I only had responsibility for two, DS2 and his pretty little friend.

Berrie · 08/07/2008 07:33

Morning everyone!

Off to physio today. She is going to pull my leg apparently. Did I tell you it was my pelvis?

Going to cinema with MFL'sF tonight...can anyone recomend anything. I fancy Prince Caspian for totty value...

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 08/07/2008 09:20

Oooh, SATC was definitely a good watch. It was far better than I expected, and very funny. Although Prince Caspain looks like it has merit.

I had a lovely morning so far. I was woken up at 7.10 by the alarm. Then had a leisurely, peaceful breakfast in bed reading a good book. Then decided at about 8.30 am that I really should get ready for work. Oh bliss. Obviously, I miss DS, and I'll look forward to seeing him again on Saturday, but goodness, peace & quiet and no 5.30am wake up calls or that frenetic bedtime hour, just languid peace is a holiday on its own, isn't it. (He's with DH for the week, obviously - in case you thought I'd sold him to white slavers or sent him down the mines. )
