What's the 1st thing you'd buy if you won 10 million on the lottery

Some Basildon Bond to write out my resignation (was shouted at in my healthcare job today, have just about had enough).

A house with a driveway so I don’t have to constantly move my car to avoid traffic wardens.

A house for my sister next door to mine.

A car for me (modest but new).

Get my parents’ teeth sorted with world class dentistry.

Trust fund for my nieces.

A full time chef.

@SocksOnTheSaucepan

nah, don't waste any money on them! Toilet paper is good enough!!

abracadabra1980 · 13/04/2024 21:42

A smallholding, rescue some animals and employ a farmhand to help. Nothing else.

TheFormidableMrsC · 13/04/2024 21:46

I'd pay off my DD's student loan and then pay off my mortgage. I'd also pay off a close friend's mortgage.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 13/04/2024 21:46

I need nothing for myself. It would give me enormous joy to facilitate my boys and their families finding their forever home without a mortgage.
Id love to be able to afford regular wonderful holidays for my husband, myself and our wider family. I would hire someone to find my brother.

Mairzydotes · 13/04/2024 20:37

That's what I was thinking
As soon as the money hits the bank account first thing.

I'd probably get a takeaway for tea that night.And I'd fill my existing car up with v power .

Edited

@Mairzydotes

woah steady on. Once you've ordered a takeaway there might not be much left!

I looked at getting a Thai delivery tonight, but didn't, I don't have a spare. Organ to sell!

Hillrunning · 13/04/2024 21:49

@Hillrunning
No, you're not alone!!

& others listing 50 things, that's not the FIRST thing you'd buy.

but I try not to it get to me as it's supposed to be a bit of fun.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. For me, the fun was in the specificity of the question! It made me think about the scenario from a different approach to my normal one. It is interesting that for so many people, it being 'for fun' seems to mean that accuracy isn't relevant.

My answer is a holiday, as soon as the money was in my account.

Timeforachocolate · 13/04/2024 21:51

A music instrument my child would really like, so they can start having music lessons

greengreyblue · 13/04/2024 21:52

Mine was in order of purchase.

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 13/04/2024 21:55

House.
Driving lessons.
Then a nice car.
Then a campervan.
A large deposit for a property for my DD.

YourWinter · 13/04/2024 21:57

A house that doesn’t need anything fixing, to end my days there without fear of it becoming uninhabitable.

spottyhotdog · 13/04/2024 21:58

A car

SamWinchestersHair · 13/04/2024 21:59

new cars for both of us and ours are both 15+ years old.

then a nice big detached house in a local village to us

BorgQueen · 13/04/2024 22:02

DD’s house and I’d buy the house next door by making her neighbours an offer they can’t refuse.
She’s having to sell up because her bastard ex walked out on her and my 4yo Grandson a month ago. She can’t afford a £1500 a month mortgage on her own.
Then me and DH would go on a cruise to Japan

Slav80 · 13/04/2024 22:03

I will buy the notice period on my job first and then a one way ticket to a warmer, sunny country.

Mammma91 · 13/04/2024 22:04

A headstone for my dad, then a house, then pay off the finance on the car.

greyrockagain · 13/04/2024 22:05

First thing that I would buy would be a nice new bed. mine is 15 yrs old and definitely feeling it.

How sad is that?!?

after that I’d buy my parents a manageable house with a little walled garden they could enjoy. Mainly for my mum, whose needs have always come last throughout her life.

Then, I’d consider paying off my mortgage and employing a builder to sort out the problems I’ve been ignoring.

Anything after that would go into my two kids’ leaving home funds.

@greyrockagain 10million

how far away do you want your kids to go?

@Hillrunning

well it's Saturday night, so it would probably be a new notebook to arrive early tomorrow morning so I can start planning ASAP I'd go out in the morning to a nice cafe & drink lots of latte!

neilyoungismyhero · 13/04/2024 22:13

Donate money to local dog rescue.

BiddyPop · 13/04/2024 22:15

First- a boat. It was to be a monohull but I think, for DH sake, a cat. So a sea wind like the 1370 or a HH (probably a44).

Then land with a stream. So I can grow vegetables and generate power.

Sprogonthetyne · 13/04/2024 22:21

I'd take my mum to pizza hut and get no pizza, just unlimited ice cream factory.

I made the plan when I was 7 (then it was mum winning and taking me) and would stick with it. Slight barrier of having never played the lottery in adult life though.

MuggleMe · 13/04/2024 22:21

A car and a holiday.

Giggorata · 13/04/2024 22:22

A wood.

SpikyHatePotato · 13/04/2024 22:27

INeedVitaminSea · 13/04/2024 20:40

Private surgery - two knee replacements, two hip replacements, plus at least one shoulder. All the other stuff doesn’t mean much if you can’t enjoy it pain free.

I came to say new knees! Since that takes too long, the first thing would be some new socks, mine are all wearing out

MistyGreenAndBlue · 13/04/2024 22:29

A cat of every colour. 😃

I mean, I can now afford a big enough house for them all.
