What's the 1st thing you'd buy if you won 10 million on the lottery

OP posts:

A house 1 mile away from where I am now. I love my house I am in but the street and neighbourhood is awful. Unfortunately it’s all I could get as I homeless after a divorce and now live in a LA house. I am very lucky to get this house and not ungrateful I just fee frightened here. My martial home was 1 mile away and I loved it there, I’ve swapped one fear for another. Moral of the story - get your ducks in a row. lol.

Someone on another lottery thread advised against that! She said you should invest the money (at a higher rate than the mortgage interest) and use the interest to pay the mortgage. That way you still have the lump sum.

Hope you need that info in the future!

Excellent advice.

I’d pay all my debts off then buy a house and a new car. I’d then gift money to my mother & in-laws and go on a lovely holiday abroad.

Neveralonewithaclone · 13/04/2024 20:50

I'd buy my next door neighbours house and knock through 🤔 OR buy it and don't knock through but have a joint garden and my (adult) kids can live in that house. If i offered ndn enough money they'd leave immediately 🤷🏼‍♂️

A house for my friend - she's incredible! One of life's angels 💖

fishfingersandtoes · 13/04/2024 20:54

A few pints or a coffee and cake depending on the time of day.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 13/04/2024 20:54

A home.

CadyEastman · 13/04/2024 20:55

Get the garden done. We woukd probably stay in our house for a bit whilst we figured out where we wanted to buy and having the garden done so that we could enjoy it properly in the interim woukd be bliss.

Heatherbell1978 · 13/04/2024 20:58

I'd check myself into the most amazing hotel in my city and get busy with my spreadsheet with a bottle of champagne in hand. I'm such a planner that I've planned what I would do in this situationGrin

Nesbi · 13/04/2024 20:59

Most of the suggestions here would take quite a bit of time to sort out! I suspect my first purchase would probably be a bottle of Krug as I could pick one up from a shop nearby!

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 13/04/2024 21:01

Flights to somewhere hot and quiet where me, DH and DD could relax and take time to think about what we want to do next with the money.

Mumaway · 13/04/2024 21:02

A housekeeper couple- one to do the cooking/laundry/cleaning etc, one to be driver/handyperson/PA/carry my bags for me....

Diversion · 13/04/2024 21:04

A chauffer, obviously I'm not going to buy one, but would employ one. I don't need a fancy car, I really just hate driving.

timetodeclutter · 13/04/2024 21:06

Rolex! (As soon as I could find one for sale - would probably get a second hand one)

Longer term things (depending on how big a win we're talking):
Consider getting a nanny
And consider taking a year off work to do a degree

BuddhaAtSea · 13/04/2024 21:14

An eternity ring, I think £20,000 would get me what I want. To remember the moment forever.

XelaM · 13/04/2024 21:17

A fancy horse lorry 🚛

A livery yard 🐎

Another pony 😄

Blueyandsocks · 13/04/2024 21:17

I’d take DH and the kids to the big shopping centre near us and just go wild for the day. Mulberry’s, Louboutins, Rolex (smiggle for the kids 🤣) just all the high end shops I’d never go near normally I’d be in there buying all kinds.
Then I’d be sensible and invest it and shit.

Runnerduck34 · 13/04/2024 21:17

Pay off our mortgage.
And buy houses for our kids.
But probably a slap up meal before that!
Would also be booking a fabulous holiday.
Ooh and a beautiful sapphire and diamond ring!
But first would be a meal to celebrate!

pinkroseleaf · 13/04/2024 21:18

A bungalow with lots of space so my disabled child could get around more easily.

greengreyblue · 13/04/2024 21:19

A new house in the expensive market town I love. Houses for my adult DC.House on the south coast.

DisforDarkChocolate · 13/04/2024 21:21

Nothing exciting, I'd send some money to my children then book a holiday.

Hillrunning · 13/04/2024 20:31

Is no one else getting irritated that the op asked about the first thing yoy would buy and most people are picking things that would take ages to buy?!?!

@Hillrunning
No, you're not alone!!

& others listing 50 things, that's not the FIRST thing you'd buy.

but I try not to it get to me as it's supposed to be a bit of fun.

Lillipops · 13/04/2024 21:40

@Needmorelego I hear ya!!! That would be me once I'd bought a house big enough to house the entire Lego collection I'd be buying 🤩

Scottishdreams1991 · 13/04/2024 21:41
