if you worked nights and your child was always in bed and asleep before you went out and never wakes up, would you give your neighbour who was wellknown to your child the baby monitor to keep an ear out on the offchance that they do wake up and a key to get in on that offchance rather than giving up work? (a babysitter costs more than i earn an hour)

lol, I mean when as in tonight/next week/already started

Why is your mum getting CB for your ds?
If you got the CB would that cover you not working?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:02

because when i was at uni by mum acting as guardian she could get more help benefits way than i could. to get the benefits she needed to be claiming the CB though. CB is only £17 isn't it so no it would not cover not working.

No way. If your neighbour is in all night, surely it would be easier if your baby slept at the neighbours house. I don't see any advantage in your baby staying at home.

Also in the unlikely scenario of something terrible happening to your child can you imagine the grief you would get? It is not worth it.

tiredemma · 05/02/2008 17:04

NA- Does your Ds's father not contribute at all to his upkeep?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:04

there are other places i can work but that is going to take just as long to sort out as the new rota so figured i might aswell stay where i am. i don't drive so it is ideal as it is only minutes away. there aren't any other nearby shops/pubs that i could get to without paying a large amount to a taxi company. there are 3 buses a day!!

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:04

tiredemma - no not at all.

CSA? ( possibly no use at all though!)

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:06

the advantage to ds staying at home with the babysitter is he will not sleep in their living room i know he won't. they have a big family and their living room is never a quiet place to be

If you need the money, though, you need to claiming the CB for your ds. It would be a start. And it's not far off covering the £20 you'd get from your job. (Is it £20 a week you're talking about?) Combined with tax credits wouldn't that be better?
If that doesn't work, then I agree with others that you need to be looking for a different job.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:06

he is working abroad so they can't do anything.

Have you been anywhere to discuss what benefits you are entitled to?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:10

i have asked at 2 restaurants that are the next nearest - good 3/4 hour walk home though. they said they will get back to me if there is anything but they said they have kept most of their xmas staff on so it could be a while before i hear anything.

I know you said your mum claims your CB, but does she actually keep the money or pass it on to you ?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:14

yes i've been to the CAB. i am entitled to CTC and income support but only when CB is in my name.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:14

she keeps it.

OP posts:
wannaBe · 05/02/2008 17:15

but why is your cb in your mum's name

nutcracker · 05/02/2008 17:15

Why does she keep it ?? Who actually cares for your son ??

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:16

because it was a very complicated situation that meant i couldn't hardly get any help if it was in my name.

OP posts:
juuule · 05/02/2008 17:17

Then get the CB back in your name and get what you are entitled to. Then you might not have to leave your ds.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:17

she keeps it as board towards bills.
