if you worked nights and your child was always in bed and asleep before you went out and never wakes up, would you give your neighbour who was wellknown to your child the baby monitor to keep an ear out on the offchance that they do wake up and a key to get in on that offchance rather than giving up work? (a babysitter costs more than i earn an hour)

You need to get it changed then asap. Just ring them up and explain, they will send you out all of the forms and they are generally pretty quick at sorting things out in my experiance.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:18

who do i ring?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:26

thanks nutty.

also MF once she goes back to work i am thinking she might be able to claim childcare vouchers which i can't.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:27

does anyone know with WTC do they pay the whole amount for childcare or just a percentage? and if it's the whole amount would they pay for an evening cm cos they cost more than in the daytime.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 05/02/2008 17:27

I am a bit confused though how your mum can claim more than you could for your ds.

I understand that you can't get childcare vouchers and she may be able to, but what else can she claim by being his guardian that you couldn't if the cb were in your name ?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:28

because i was a student they took my loans/grants into consideration and that meant i wasn't entitled to anything.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 05/02/2008 17:29

I think it depends NA.

Whenever i have put details of possible jobs in on entitledto.com, it has always given the result that WTC would cover all of the childcare, and in some instances WTC would be more than needed for childcare. Depends on hours etc.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:29

oh right i thought you got a separate bit for childcare iyswim.

What about your dad? Brother? Toby Jack's godmother?

What do you do during the day? Can your boss change to day shift if it would be easier for you to get a c/minder for those hours?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:32

my dad has no idea how to look after a baby. the 14 year old is more responsible than him!! my brother died. ds' godmother lives in sheffield.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/02/2008 17:35

I said I wouldn't post again but nevermind.
NA you are clearly entitled to more help than you are getting and it can't possibly be as hard as you say to sort it out.
Just do it please.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:35

can i tell my boss i can't work for the next few weeks without risking the sack?

OP posts:
LadyOfWaffle · 05/02/2008 17:38

NA, yep, ask for parental leave. It'll be unpaid though, but if you are earning £5 a night after childcare it's probably better, and it'll give your boss a shove up the arse to get the shifts changed.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:39

and i can ask for parental leave with no notice?

OP posts:
LadyOfWaffle · 05/02/2008 17:39

Might be better to put it all in writing to be on the safe side, date it and get it to him asap stating the date from when you need your hours changed, he might get his butt into gear then.

LadyOfWaffle · 05/02/2008 17:40

DH has rung after his shifts started for parental leave for last minute hospital trips/ ds ill/me ill so he has to look after DS etc.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 17:44

is there a maximum length of time you can have it for?

OP posts:
LadyOfWaffle · 05/02/2008 17:49

Ah, you can only get it if you have worked for them for a year - you can take 13 weeks, 4 weeks a year though in 1 week blocks.
