Another Mumsnetter Waves Goodbye

I came to MN to find friendship, an enjoyable way of passing the time, and support for my depression and suicidal feelings. What I often find now when I switch on my PC is spiteful comments, MNers being aggressive and confrontational, and finding that you can't even post a politely worded opinion without someone hurling themselves down your throats. There are now thread titles that I won't even open because I know that people will be bitching and sniping, and I find this very sad. I have actually sat in tears this afternoon because of certain posts that I've seen, and this is not how I want to feel when I come to Mumsnet.

This is not what I want from a site which should to be friendly and supportive, so I have decided that now is the time to leave. You won't miss me, of course - most of you won't even have noticed that I've been around! - but I just wanted to say thank you to all of those people who have supported me through my recent bad patch. Thank you for your concern and for everything you have said to make me feel better.

TraceyP, I have no idea waht has been said to you, but I was called a slave driver, my qualifications as loving mother were questioned, and one person even said I din't have enough time to look after a pet, let alone a child!! I am not a bashful softy emotional kind of girl. I was gobsmacked that day. But, I lurked around for a while, and I noticed other people getting the same kind of bashing. So I went back to my thread and took note of the people who were not my friends. And for everyone else on mumsnet, I'm happy to talk to them.

I guess a bit sick that what brought me back was seeing that other people were treated poorly as well. But,I suupose it was like "well okay, I guess it's not just me then".

Uwila, I agree about the comments that were made to you on your thread - very aggressive, nasty, cruel and uncalled for. But I was heartened to see that when I started a related thread there was lots of support for people in our position, including from people who have made very different choices. There are a lot of nasty rows here at the moment (someone said it seems very pre-menstrual...) and I've even been involved in one myself. But there is also an awful lot of support, humour and generosity.
Glad you've come back and sorry that TracyP is going

Uwila · 11/10/2004 21:33

Yeah, sorry about the new name. The day I left I was sooooooooo mad, I deleted everything from my profile. Even took my e-mail out so no one could cat me. Then whenI decided to return there was an error and I couldn't get the system to take my e-mail or even a password. So,I have to make a new screen name... hence UWila. The old name was CassieD. The thread was called "...am I being resonable".

Uwila · 11/10/2004 21:35

Thanks, Edam.

See, I know that Edam is my friend.

edam · 11/10/2004 21:37

You're welcome Uwila!

Musica -- one really nice thing on the UKParents site is a "Debate" forum. Nicely mops up nearly all the controversial discussions, and you just keep out if you don't want to know about it!
