Previous thread is HERE

Five years on from my first treatment, the options have pretty much run out.

How are you doing today zombie?

citybumpkin · 08/12/2016 15:37

Hi Zombie, I'm a long-time lurker showing my face. I've followed your thread for a while and not been able to post as I found it difficult due to personal circumstances. You are an amazing person, showing such strength in the face of adversity. As is my mum, who too was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer 5 years ago. The doctors have just recently withdrawn her medication as its having no affect. Like you, she has been big and brave and so so strong. I am so proud of her and am not particularly looking forward to what will (probably) be her last Christmas.

Continue your bravery Zombie Flowers

pacific damn. Maybe it's under lins Grin

PacificDogwod · 08/12/2016 16:20

Greek? As in 'Ancient Greek'?
Well, you reached the limits of my non-existent Classical education Grin

In other news, an Amazon parcel has actually been addressed to my address!! Shock - I know! Amazeballs.
2 other parcels still at 'door no7 with John or Joanne Smith' - maybe it's another dimension?
Zombie, I trust Amazon will actually deliver.
How's the credit card flexing going?
Brew

Mummylin · 08/12/2016 17:24

Fatty, nope your marbles and voice is def not here, I did a good search Grin

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 08/12/2016 17:59

Nope, marbles and voice are 2 of the many things not here either.

Notably absent are BT engineer, plumber and kitchen components that would facilitate the fucking fitting of the appliances.

You know, those things that actually identify a kitchen as such!

At first we were a Rolling Phalanx, can't remember why I added that, but rolling is what I intend to get tonight Wine!

Flowers for you and your mum city

I loved Latin at school, did it for A-level. One of my lovely teachers was talking about Ancient Greek one day and 3 of us decided to start and do the O-level in the 6th form.

No one had done it in over a decade and he was chuffed. He was a bit of a Mr Chips character. We did lessons in his sitting room after school with tea and tins of biscuits. When he saw which ones we'd eat first he'd stock up.

Will never forget his face when he came to find us when the results came out. He pointed at us in turn and announced our grades with the most gloriously proud and exultant face.

We were so thrilled for him.

PacificDogwod · 08/12/2016 18:14

Aw, Fids, that is a lovely memory Smile
We had a horrible latin teacher - she used to throw chalk at us...

Remember chalk?!

Grin
iklboo · 08/12/2016 18:20

We didn't do Latin or Greek. French & German for us. Only the French has sort of stuck.

Made a start on the advent window decorations. Presents wrapped & cards written for The Gathering Of The (DH) Clan lunch on Saturday. All with me dizzlies. DH is playing a game on the XBox. Hmm

Fiderer · 08/12/2016 18:23

Remember chalk? 95% of the classrooms where I work have chalk boards Grin

Haven't thrown any chalk (yet) and get the students to clean the board as there's either a manky stinky cloth or sponge which make my hands stink

cbigs · 08/12/2016 18:30

Hi zombie ,
What a freaking legend you are! Much respect for your decision and also wanted to say if you've not got it get Amazon prime! I got it by mistake when I didn't cancel my trial and it fricking marvellous! Xmas Grin

HerRoyalFattyness · 08/12/2016 20:20

I know a tiny bit of French and German.

Never did Latin, way too posh for me that. We did French and German and that was our lot. Grin

Oh and I can count to ten in Korean.

Fiderer · 08/12/2016 20:37

Ironically when I started secondary school I had the choice between Latin and German and I chose Latin. Would have loved to have ended up in Rome with Falco.

Don't regret it, after all I can say "Glühwein" and gin is called "Gin" Grin That'll do.

Must brush up on phalanx terminology, spears and things. And did someone mention a martini dispenser?

meditrina · 08/12/2016 21:41

Origin of the word 'gin' is Dutch, isn't it?

PacificDogwod · 08/12/2016 21:45

Yes, I think 'gin' and 'juniper' share a etymological root?

PacificDogwod · 08/12/2016 21:49

Nope, 'jenever' in Dutch, 'Wacholder' in German (well, I never!).

Gin is a shortening of Geneva - with which is has nothing to do!
That's the kind of weirdness that tickles me Grin

citybumpkin · 08/12/2016 21:52

I hesitate to say this as I might get well and truly flamed but...

I cannot stand gin!

PurpleDaisies · 08/12/2016 21:54

Shock city.

Never mind-more for me. Grin

Anyone watching the apprentice? It's a gin based task this week.

PacificDogwod · 08/12/2016 22:01

Yes, and what a car crash the task is Grin

city, be-have yourself!

PurpleDaisies · 08/12/2016 22:02

I suspect the candidates might have been pissed for most of it pacific. Grin

PacificDogwod · 08/12/2016 22:07

Yes, clearly Grin

I would never last in that boardroom: voice failing, choked with tears, unable to string a sentence together - that would be me

citybumpkin · 08/12/2016 22:21

Coat, hat and gloves on here. Sorry but the thought of that flowery tear inducing stuff...

acatcalledjohn · 08/12/2016 22:26

Despite normally lurking (and having descended back in to lurkdom after responding to Zombie's news a day or two ago), I have been dragged back out by all this talk of gin and the The Apprentice gin task.

The House of Bols in Amsterdam is worth a visit. Bols is the oldest gin distillery in the world apparently.

Both gins on The Apprentice task didn't appeal to me, but watching Grainne and Trishna get hammered during tasting was amusing. I would never most definitely get lost in gin tasting. Oh no, not me! BlushGrin

HerRoyalFattyness · 08/12/2016 22:36

city you can come and drink vodka in the corner with me Grin
