having a morbid moement and wondere how i would feel if I didn't have my 3 for some reason as am too old to have any more

from this perspective fo having kids i really dont see what point there would be in going on if i no longer had them and had no chance of having others

which makes me wonder what is the point of life withoug kids?

There isn't a point without them. It's only having my children that stops me from killing myself

HeartOnMyGreensleeve · 13/02/2007 18:05

I feel like that too, on several levels. But I do think that may be because that's the way I've chosen to structure my life - I know perfectly intelligent and interesting people who aren't depressed and don't feel pointless and don't have children because they don't want them. My life would be pointless without them.

Mud · 13/02/2007 18:06

i know those tpye of poeplke too but i look at them and feel sorry for them rather than admireation or envy

Well, my life would have no point without kids, because I have restructured it to include them and they would leave a massive gap.

but My friend's li9fe is fine without kids, she has long holidays, and lives where she wants, and can be as unstable as she likes!

colditz · 13/02/2007 18:08

I guess if you don't have kids then you don't know any different therefore your life is not pointless

I certainly didn't feel that my life was pointless before having kids!

losing my children would be appalling beyond words adn I do wonder if I would want to carry on. But that wuold be totally different to not having them in the first place!

Mud · 13/02/2007 18:10

I know what you mean mud, I used to feel sorry for them too (my sister would rather french kiss a dog turd than get married or have a baby). However these days I tend only to feel sorry for people who aer actually unhappy with their lot. Isn't it a bit patronising to feel sorry for someone who is happy and enjoying life, just because they haven't made the same choices as you? It reminds me of Christians praying for people who have repeatedly stated that they are atheists and don't want to be prayed for, which is another thing which really inflames me.

flutterbee · 13/02/2007 18:11

This thread may be a little insensitive to those who are unable to have children, but who are desperately trying to concieve.

I always wanted kids and hope to have a few more if I'm lucky enough but I know a few people who are more than happy without children. They put themselves and their partner first enjoying all the luxuries in life whilst being able to play parent when it suits them to family and close friends children.

CountessDracula · 13/02/2007 18:12

kama, you "don't understand how someone can go through life without having learnt the lessons children bring"

Well some people have no choice!

Mud · 13/02/2007 18:13

once your a perent you've been in both places - childless and with children - maybe only form the persepctive of both potiisons can you judge - i also didn't think i was missing out on anything becore i had my kids later in life

but now i am in a position to judge because i've been through both and i judge that my previous life would have been shallwo and posintless if i had never takent he plunge - ok had the accident

CountessDracula · 13/02/2007 18:15

Mud this site is also for people trying to conceive

Don't be so smug and insensitive

flutterbee · 13/02/2007 18:15

The more I read this thread the more I feel uneasy. I think someone should get it deleated or maybe I am being a little too sensitive over it.

CountessDracula · 13/02/2007 18:17
