Thanks B3 - he was such a lovely doctor. Went to look round new surgeries (he was a one man outfit). Was definitely put off the one where the fifty something receptionist dressed / looked like Pauline Calf & spoke to an elderly patient like she was a piece of dirt.

Should I take some painkillers before I go? I heard they can be rather painful.

Allalonenow · 21/08/2016 19:18

ikl I've had quite a few mammograms, and while they can be a little uncomfortable, I wouldn't think you will need painkillers beforehand.

It's a sensible step for you with your family history, they will probably keep you on the recall list now.

Try not to worry, you will be fine. Thanks

Rain pretty much all day here, and no midweek heatwave as promised either!

Going to have a small sherry before cooking supper now! Have already done a beetroot and chickpea salad as part of it, which goes a pretty pink when left to stand. Wine Wine Clincalissimo!

Fiderer · 21/08/2016 19:34

iklboo I had a worrisome lump and a mammogram a couple of years ago. More uncomfortable than painful.

Get gin in for the all clear later Grin

iklboo · 21/08/2016 19:38

Thank you - mind much more at rest. I might even get some sleep tonight! Smile

chewingawasp · 21/08/2016 19:48

ikl hope your mammogram goes ok tomorrow. As others have said it's uncomfortable more than painful. I fainted and fell backwards into a bin at one of my mammograms but I had just had a biopsy beforehand. I'm sure you'll be fine Grin
I have had minimal side effects so far BBB so hopefully that will continue. Hope you get to have your chemo next week Zombie Flowers

Allalonenow · 21/08/2016 20:00

chewing That's good news about the limited side effects, been wondering how you were. Thanks

Great advice from Fid re the stocking up on gin! Grin

HerRoyalFattyness · 21/08/2016 20:47

Glad side effects are minimal for you chewing

exit how are you getting on?

ikl my mum had to have a mammogram. She said it was uncomfortable and she felt a bit tender afterwards but nothing too bad. Flowers

zombie how are you?

Mummylin · 21/08/2016 21:01

Will second that mammograms are uncomfortable rather than painful. Best of luck ikl, I'm sure you will be fine, but with your family circumstances it's best to check.
BBB how is your dd getting on ? Niece having lots of sleepless nights and has sore nipples ! But enjoying being a mum.

iklboo · 22/08/2016 11:32

Hope you're ok today Zombie. Any news on chemo?

Well, I've had more fun Monday mornings but it wasn't painful. Just uncomfortable as you said and weird trying to contort myself into the required positions. Radiographer was very business like but nice enough. Results in about two weeks.

Journey home was worse. Trams replaced by buses. First nearest stop was closed so had to walk about 1/2 a mile to next one in pissing rain. First bus just sailed past the stop despite 3 of us waiting.

This meant I missed the next train and had to wait for the one after that. Which was late, of course.

I've got a ten minute walk from the train station, which is fine. I'm supposed to be working from home today. First day back after 2.5 weeks off. I don't expect I'll get much done - just catching up on all the emails & changes implemented while I was off.

Is there any gin?

ExitPursuedByABear · 22/08/2016 16:17

Hi all I'm fine thanks. Still gaining weight daily and struggling to walk. Had a big do at home yesterday and I was on my feet all day with no food and too much wine so feeling rather weary today.

Fed up of all this rain..............

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 22/08/2016 17:43

Make sure you take it easy Exit.

Ikl what a nightmare of a journey!

I myself am off to the Apple Store this afternoon because my brand new shiny phone has stopped working. It is very very strange being phone-less.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 22/08/2016 18:10

You really must rest ExitBear easier said than done I know.

Glad you're OK ikl, all that contorting always makes me giggle! Rough journey home, very annoying.

Hope you got the phone sorted Hearts Smile

She's doing well lin thanks, baby sleeping 3-4 hours day and night but goes back to sleep quickly after feeds at night, as does she. Her DH is being great too, helps having a flexible job that's closeby.

How are you feeling Z, hope you've built up a bit of strength and recovered over the w/e.
Maybe they should stretch the chemo to every 3 weeks anyway, there seems to be a pattern indicating that that's more suitable.

iklboo · 22/08/2016 20:17

I was trying not to laugh B3 - I felt like Dawn French trying to do half naked ballet as the radiographer was shoving me into all sorts of positions.

Allalonenow · 22/08/2016 20:44

How's everything Zombie ?

Glad you got through it OK today ikl Star
Were the trams on strike?

You should be resting Exit not busy being the hostess with the mostest!

B3 So pleased that the baby is doing well, I bet those Grandma cuddles are wonderful.

iklboo · 22/08/2016 20:48

AllAlone - no they're redoing the tram lines on the route I had to take. Digging them all up & relaying them. Thankfully I don't usually have to do this, but the mammogram site was in an area where we used to live.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 22/08/2016 21:56

I don't get a look in when DS is there, he's besotted Grin[sob]!

magimedi · 22/08/2016 22:18

Pops in, offers large gin ration to all - especially ikl.

Grandmotherly coos to BBB. (It's wonderful, isn't it?)

iklboo · 22/08/2016 22:30

Yay for Magi

Allalonenow · 23/08/2016 00:23

Wine Clincalissimo magi !

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 23/08/2016 00:35

Coos back magi Smile

It's been fascinating. Other DD sobbed for half an hour when she heard he had arrived safely, she told me from relief which I could understand but she hadn't expressed concern before, or even acknowledged it to herself.

More emotional for her too being so far away.

But, my son, baby's uncle, is a different person.
It has completely changed his perspective on everything.

He works with DH, and his priorities have changed overnight.

Fascinating

Allalonenow · 23/08/2016 00:54

B3 I wondered if in your post at 21:56 you'd mistyped DS and it should have been DH! But all clear now.
That's lovely for DS, he will be able to do lots of fun Uncle things with your DGS, how cool that will be!!

IamtheZombie · 23/08/2016 19:03

Evening all.

Gosh, there's a lot to catch up on. Please forgive me if I shortcut by sending cwtchs to babies and grannies / great aunties, gentle ZombieHugsâ„¢ to all having health problems and sloppy kisses to EVERYONE.

I've been quiet because frankly I still feel like shit. I dread to think how I'd be feeling if I'd been able to have chemo last week. I just feel like my body has had all it can take. Tummy in particular has been really bad especially with bloating. There have been moments when I just wished it would go ahead and explode. I've doubled my dose of peppermint oil. That reduces the bloating for a couple of hours and then it just takes off again. Add on the usual aches and pains...

I had a real small world experience this morning. It all started 4 or 5 days ago when I was followed on Twitter by a musician called Yves Jean. (No idea why he followed me but I listened to a couple of his tracks, liked his music so followed him back.) Today when I logged in I discovered that I was now also being followed by the violinist from the Dave Matthews Band. Now it turns out that I was friends with and worked with his sister between 1971 - 76. My friend adored her little brother and talked of him often. I had NO idea that he'd grown up to be a member of one of the best prog/rock bands ever. Now, even if his sister had ever mentioned me during the time we worked together, he'd have no way of realising there was any sort of a connection between us as my Twitter account is in a fictitious name.

Hello lovely, prob preaching to the choir but fennel tea for your tum? Nurses dole it out here post CS to help with bloating.

There was a mixed tea with aniseed and something - let me look. I'll send you some but don't gripe if it tastes foul Grin

IamtheZombie · 23/08/2016 19:39

Sorry, Fid. Zombie doesn't do fennel, aniseed or anything even vaguely licorice(ish).

OP posts:
Fiderer · 23/08/2016 19:54

Ah well, twas just a thought. Didn't do them either till I had a horrid CS with FidBoy1 and the tea was like something out of Harry Potter & potions Grin

Much love as always Flowers
