a fella in DH work who is on his own with 2 children said he does 1 wash a week thats it

I feel like with my family of 4, I am doing a wash nearly every day and if I don't do one for a couple of days, like yesterday, I ended up doing 3!!!!

One of my DD's has SN so does tend to have a clean uniform every day as she gets her yogurt down her clothes!!! Whereas her sister can get away with wearing her cardy/skirt twice

How many washes do you think you do each week

We're a family of 4 and do about 3 washes a week. Ds1 is 5 and tends to be able to wear his uniform throughout the week - maybe a change of top and trousers mid-week. Everything ds2 wears goes straight in the wash each evening!

burstingbug · 28/01/2007 10:43

Between me, dh, ds1 23mths and ds2 5mths, I do at least 7 washes, sometimes up to 10 or so, I use re-useable nappies too!

nogoes · 28/01/2007 10:46

We are a family of 3 and we do 9 washes per week, 1 on every day in the week and 2 per day at the weekend.

I can't understand how he manages to get away with just one per week. Maybe he has loads of clothes, I could get away with it with ds but I don't have that many clothes so I have to keep washing them.

SecondhandRose · 28/01/2007 10:46

Loads, bedding, towels, school uniform, dressing gowns. About 6 a week but I do have a 9kg washer.

sassy · 28/01/2007 10:47

There are four of us too, including a 2 yo in some washable nappies.

Average 1 wash p/day, including all bedding once p/wk, all towels once p/wk.

Kids wear clean outfits and clean pjs every day - this could be reduced I know. Me and dh tend to wear outer clothes for 2-3 days and same with pjs.

i have, me, dh, dd (2) and ds (11weeks) and i do about 5 washes a week, so just under one a day, including bedding once a week and towels get washed after they have been used twice (hung on radiators in between).

My washing basket is never empty but doesnt have more than one full load in it.

My kids have clean clothes every day and clean pjs every night and so do me and dh.

Cattymum · 28/01/2007 10:51

I just never stop!!!! We use reusable nappies, so they get washed every other day, on top of that i do 1 or 2 loads every day.... constant washing!

Thats me, dh, ds 3 adn dd 15 months, dh doesnt help by being quite sporty, gym, cycling and football kits all need washing as soon as they are used, or they gain the ablity to walk to the machine themselves.

CamomileTea · 28/01/2007 10:58

ooh we have had this thread before and it has kicked off big style

I do one a day; that includes a nappy wash every 3

CamomileTea · 28/01/2007 10:59

by 'one wash a week' does he mean that he saves all his washing up for the weekend?

He can't mean one wash load?

nooka · 28/01/2007 11:00

I have a six and a seven year old and we do two washes a week - one light, one dark. Every now and then there is an extra one for bedding if I can't squeeze it in the main wash. But the kids live with their dad for half the week so obviously washing gets done their too. My mum always had a weekly washing regime, so I guess that's why I follow that rule, but I also think environmentally washing should be done when it has to be done rather than shoving everything straight in the wash every night. When the kids were younger it was a different story as they were very messy and sometimes got through several outfits in one day, but now it's nice to keep washing to the minimum.

anniebear · 28/01/2007 11:01

yes, inc towels etc

Funny thing is, he comes across as the type who would be washing all the time!

He would never pop into Aldi for something and buys all the kids clothes from Next and I couldn't imagine him ironing his underpants!!!! lol

Nothing wrong with that of course!! and he can buy his clothes were he likes!! lol

Buy from what DH says he comes across as quite fussy!!

Oh well, I feel better now!! Think DH thought I was doing far too many washes lol will show him this [gein]

"It kicked off big style"???

Oh no!!!!!!! it is only a thread asking how many washes you do lol I'm not asking should your baby eat macdonalds or have a dummy at 5 lol lol

Im not sure what he means. DH just said that he had said he does 1 was a week

Maybe he does just have sunday as wash day and does 4 loads then, I don't know. It just came across that he does one a week

I think thats impossible!!! My fmaily are obviously far to dirty lol

Seven washes a week - for me, DH and two DSs (extra washing sometimes required for football/rugby/cricket kit). DH looks back fondly to the days when he was single and did one wash per fortnight at the laundrette (coloureds, whites, socks etc all in the same wash!)

PinkTulips · 28/01/2007 11:14

2 and a nappy wash every day just to keep up. granted ds is a baby and messy with his food but dd can wear the same clothes a couple of days in a row, as can me and dp, so i have no idea where it all comes from!

tht said if i left dp with the kids i'm sure only one wash a week would be done... whether more were needed or not! does he have a daughter of 8+ who could be doing washes without him noticing?

moondog · 28/01/2007 11:17

Annie, why are you washing a cardigan/skirt every other day???

anniebear · 28/01/2007 11:17

no, just 2 young boys

maybe 6 and 8?

anniebear · 28/01/2007 11:22

One daughter tends to have to have clean unifrom everday as she spills a lot of her lunch down her. She tends to have a few accidents also so I suppose we have that extra washing

My other little girl is pretty good and can sometimes wear her uniform for a couple of days, but not always, even at 5, she can tend to spill some yogurt down her!!

I am not just washing a skirt and a top every other day lol!! I do wait till I have a good load to put in. Will sometimes do a half wash if something is needed

5 or 6 plus bedlinen. Perhaps he only does shirts and underwear regularly ?

Bucketsofdynomite · 28/01/2007 11:30

About 9 but that includes 3 buckets of nappies and a drumful of towels/bedlinen.

ItsMeMellowma · 28/01/2007 11:32

We are a family of 4 and do usually around 2 washes per day...at weekends maybe onyl 1..
