how many washes do you do? Family of 4?

a fella in DH work who is on his own with 2 children said he does 1 wash a week thats it

I feel like with my family of 4, I am doing a wash nearly every day and if I don't do one for a couple of days, like yesterday, I ended up doing 3!!!!

One of my DD's has SN so does tend to have a clean uniform every day as she gets her yogurt down her clothes!!! Whereas her sister can get away with wearing her cardy/skirt twice

How many washes do you think you do each week

Does that single dad have a girlfriend at all? Because I bet his washing would go up if he had someone to impress (don't want to think about his underwear). I'm assuming his kids are too young to make his life misery for more clothes too. Not having a go at him, minimisation is a sensible way to do things but it won't last.

We are 4 in our house and do washing 3 days a week - each time is 2 or 3 loads depending on linen.

ItsMeMellowma · 28/01/2007 11:50

methinks meknows why he hasn't got a g/f [phew emoticon]

anniebear · 28/01/2007 11:57

he tragically/unexpectedly lost his wife 3 or 4 years ago, not ready for a girl friend

this is why Im puzzled, he is a lovely, very clean quite fussy man

he cant really be doing 1 wash a week can he!!!!!!! unless he has the biggest washing machine in the word

Well, I do 5 of clothes, 2 of towels (inc swimming), 1 of bedding, and 3 or 4 of nappies (ie every other day) a week for three of us and ds is 14 months.

anniebear · 28/01/2007 11:58

no house keeper/ Nanny

But I think his parents in law are very good, maybe MIL does some??

Thats a shame

Perhaps he thinks he is showing off saying he only does 1??

My dads best friend is single and he only does 1 wash per week, if that, but I can understand that as he has no dc, he also never puts his heating on, (only the fire in sitting room), he does not believe in insurance of any kind and has loads of money stashed away!!!

nooka · 28/01/2007 12:09

Of course it does also depend on the clothes you buy. I try and avoid anything that doesn't say 40/tumble dry, and I do stuff my machine (also it's a large capacity washer) so that's one way to cut down on the loads. When dh was around he washed everything according to it's label so there were millions of different sorts of washes going on. I've not noticed much difference on the cleanliness front.

anniebear · 28/01/2007 12:11

Oh well, at least I have this to show DH that the washing I do is a normal load

thanks

Well in our house ther is me (sahm) dh (hgv driver) dd1 (8.8 at school) and dd2 (2.8 playgroup 3 mornings a week) and I have to do 4 loads a day in the week but only 3 on a saturday and sunday.

nikkie · 28/01/2007 14:41

1/2 a day.Dd2 wets the bed almost every night though we do have kylies on so its not always a full bed change. We also have a lot of swimming stuff.

(3 of us BTW)

blossomhill · 28/01/2007 14:42

2-3 a day.

Have done about 8 this weekend as just got back from being away.

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/01/2007 14:48

4 of us - dh and both dss have a clean white shirt every day.

Machine is on probably once a day, maybe more at the weekend/when towels, sheets/duvet covers are being washed.

TBH, if the kids are wearing their school uniform only, then this will cut down on the washing. My boys get changed after school and then seem to think that something they've worn for a couple of hours is dirty! I'm always giving them stuff back from the laundry basket and telling them to wear it again.

I really, really don't get clean pjs every day. Why do you do this? The boys have a shower in the evening so they go to bed clean. Why would they need clean pjs the next night?

Bucketsofdynomite · 28/01/2007 16:24

That's sad. Perhaps he genuinely believes he only needs to do one wash a week because he doesn't notice his MIL whipping the bedding off and scavenging for dirty clothes .
How old are the kids?

NAB3 · 28/01/2007 16:28

There is 5 of us and I do at least 2 a day. Some days 3-5.

NAB3 · 28/01/2007 16:30

My record was 9..........

belgo · 28/01/2007 16:31

I do about 5 a week, that's including washable nappies.

ScoobyDooooo · 28/01/2007 16:35

There is 4 of us & i do between 1 & 2 a day, then i also do about 2 on a saturday which one of these is bedding towels, i don't do any on a sunday (day off) there is myself, dp, ds (4) dd (1)

amidaiwish · 28/01/2007 16:47

I'm sorry but is this a joke thread?

amidaiwish · 28/01/2007 18:55

oh, i feel so much better.
i was just saying to dh earlier, "some families do just two washes a week" (i totally made that up by the way).

but with a 3 year old and a 1 year old - their clothes go in the wash everyday (dirty) and generally new pjs every night (cos of weetabix on them from b'fast mostly)... plus a dh who doesn't understand wearing clothes twice (but to be fair usually the kids have got his clothes dirty with something or other). it is only my clothes which never seem to get washed!
