a fella in DH work who is on his own with 2 children said he does 1 wash a week thats it

I feel like with my family of 4, I am doing a wash nearly every day and if I don't do one for a couple of days, like yesterday, I ended up doing 3!!!!

One of my DD's has SN so does tend to have a clean uniform every day as she gets her yogurt down her clothes!!! Whereas her sister can get away with wearing her cardy/skirt twice

How many washes do you think you do each week

Depending on illness and toilet training if we're a 4 person family 4-5 washes a week, if ss is down it can be 4-7.

NannyL · 28/01/2007 20:46

1 whites
1 colours at 60 (my bed lineen and towels to kill the germs / dust mites + any coloured clothes (they DO wash fine at 60)
1 colors at 30 (all my clothes)

roseylea · 28/01/2007 20:53

We are a family of 4 and I think it prob works out as about a wash a day.

My 4 yo dd has severe excema so her clothes have to be washed after every wear (they get all creamy! )

My nearly3 yr old is just a muck magnet.

My dh is not much different!

expatinscotland · 28/01/2007 20:55

our machine belongs to our landlord, so it's not of our chosing. it's a combo washing machine/dryer, so the drum is small.

we're a family of 4 and usually do 1 a day, although at weekends i'll do more - like 3 - b/c this is when i wash specialty items like jackets, blankets, bedding, etc.

handlemecarefully · 28/01/2007 20:59

1 or 2 every day

KTeePee · 29/01/2007 10:02

One a day (5 of us), sometimes do an extra load of towels or bedding...

I was talking to someone recently who claims to do 4 loads a day (6 in family)! I just can't work out why you how you could generate so much washing - unless you insist on clearing out your laundry basket every day and do one half load of whites, one half load of colours, etc. (and change the towels every day ) If I am on top of the washing I sometimes struggle to find one full load so I leave it for a day....

dejags · 29/01/2007 10:09

minimum 9 loads a week.
varies according to puke/paint/posset/snot capabilities of my 2 DS's.

Cloudhopper · 29/01/2007 10:10

For 4 of us, two adults, a baby and a toddler, we use about 4 washes a week on clothes. Depending on guests etc, there are probably another couple of washloads per week.

Thinking about things like this keeps me awake at night when I wonder how dh would look after the dds if I wasn't here!

itsmeNDP · 29/01/2007 10:12

Family of 5 (2 teenaged boys, a 4yo girl and 2 adults), minimum of one a day. On average it is probably 8 or 9 loads a week

kslatts · 29/01/2007 10:20

We are a family of 4 and do at least 1 was a day, wash towels twice a week and sheets once a week.

ludaloo · 29/01/2007 10:23

Oh no its the how many loads of washing a day do you do question again....

Well I still do 3 loads a day....we are a family of 5.

I've tried cutting down but I just can't...I either get over run or we all have stinky clothes!

I do towels twice a week and bed linen once a week

furcoatandnoknickers · 29/01/2007 11:15

family of 5 = 18 washes a week! oh my god!

Tortington · 29/01/2007 11:17

i wait until we all have nothing to wear and the cupboard is full ( excl school uniform)

then i take my life into my own hands

open cupboard and comment 2/3 solid days of washing.

Bugsy2 · 29/01/2007 11:25

I'm regularly horrified by the unbelievable amount of laundry some people do - however, one wash a week does seem a bit on the light side.
My kids have clean pants & socks every day. They wear their vests for two days, school shirt for two days & trousers & pinafore all week. I sponge them clean if necessary during the week.
Towels are changed once a week & kids bed linen bi-weekly. My own bed linen is bi-weekly during the winter & weekly in the summer.
I do 5/6 loads a week.

BigmummaL · 29/01/2007 11:39

I am a family of 2, I do 2 washes a week, one coloured, one white!

wurlywurly · 29/01/2007 11:41

we do a wash everyday, thats without the days we do bedding and towels etc etc.

Budababe · 29/01/2007 11:52

3 of us and I do at least one load a day.

DS is 5 and gets filthy regularly at school between just being a messy pup and playing football. So clean uniform every day. About once a fortnight he can wear trousers 2 days running. Jumper tends to do all week as he takes it off in school. PJs every 2 days.

DS clean u/wear and shirt every day. Changes in evening but will wear sweatshirt and track suit pants for a few evenings.

Me - clean undies every day obv. Usually wear jeans/trsrs & top - tops I will wear twice, jeans about 4 times.

Bedding changed bi-weekly.

Towels change about every 5 days - we have our own towels.

Will this kick off this time I wonder??

tirnanog · 29/01/2007 13:50

I'am having a serious problem with this thread!![do one load every second day]Argh.......

Twinkie1 · 29/01/2007 13:54

I do at least one a day - that is just clothes - once a week I do all the bed linen which equates to 2 washes and then every third day I do towels which also equates to 2 washes - more than the one a day I do I mean.

There is me, DH, DD who is 6 and has a new uniform each day because she can't seem to eat a yogurt and not plaster it down her cardi and pinni at school and DS who is a messy little bugger but one who insists on taking his shirt off everytime it gets something on it and going and getting himself a new one out!!
