housemum · 21/11/2006 18:53

Mythumbs - thank you, I'm keeping fingers crossed. I felt so out of practice! I panicked afterwards as I realised that they hadn't asked for full details - normally I've had to give full name, agent details etc etc - all they did was ask DD her name. Then thought perhaps that's a good sign - they obviously aren't seeing that many if they didn't have to double-check (she's got a pretty normal name, so it's not like she'd stick out if they had loads to see). We'll see - had a great if filling day out anyway. DD v excited that we went to see Big Ben (we needed to change at Westminster so thought we might as well stick our heads above ground as the weather was nice!).

Quadrophenia · 21/11/2006 18:58

Hi guys thanks for well wishes, we are going tommorrow, Hurstpoint Ellismummy, do you know it??

am actually shitting it about the travel and still haven't made my mind up which way to go, funny, I have done this so many times, travelled down to Whitstable from northampton once with the kids but still am not looking forward to tomorrow!
Am not taking them all as Madeline (bless her) is going to school and josh is at preschool. There is a good chance I will need to use the victoria line in rush hour, with two kids and a suitcase of clothes, my idea of hell!!!

mysonsmummy · 21/11/2006 19:38

hi - can someone tell me what a photo library casting is - ds has one on thursday at covent garden. thank goodness we can go st8 after scholl as its 3 - 5pm. its a shame when the agency ring now all i can think about is school -its kinda ruining it for me!

marymay · 21/11/2006 21:26

mysonsmummy..dd went for one of these casting at the start of the year.the one we went to there were loads of people children and adults.it was for a company that holds all the photos of the people they like on file for six months, then if they need say a brown haired blue eye 10 year old they will give your agency a call.

Ooooooooooooh there you are!

lanismum · 21/11/2006 22:12

was just reading the other thread, was going to attempt a link from this thread for you, glad you have saved me the shame of not doing it properly

Ragamuffin · 21/11/2006 22:44

mysonsmummy.......A photo library is basically a company who takes or buys photographs, stores the images and then sells them. For example if you were doing an article on healthy eating and you wanted a pic of a child eating a banana, but you didn't want to cast, set up a shoot and get the picture take, you could just find what you wanted on a photo library site and buy the pic. Getty Images is one of the largest sites like this. Look in magazines........you will often see next to a picture.....Photo by Getty Images (or whichever library they used. This means the pic was taken and stored for a later date when needed. My kids have done a few of these and you just never know when one of these pics could pop up again in print somewhere. You sign over the rights to the photos to the libaray. Hope that explains it??? Good Luck for the casting!

Quad.........Good Luck tomorrow. Hope rush hour on the trains/tube with 2 kids and a suitcase goes ok! I have done this a few times and feel for you!

Quadrophenia · 21/11/2006 22:50

Thanks ragamuffin xx

Cyan have emailed you x

mysonsmummy · 22/11/2006 01:10

thank you - so basically the casting is for the photo library. but then could they use the photo anywhere or only to someone who would then ask us to come for a shoot. im confused as couldnt the client get the same sort of photo if they rang an agency and would have to pay to use photo library but not the agency. or am i just not getting it. not sure if its a good idea to go or not. i have decided that i am not taking him out of school for castings (or i say that until a really interesting one comes along). im getting headache off my family members saying he shouldnt be taken out of school. but this ones ok as its after school. at least things are starting to happen for us. boy i wish i got my bum in gear long before he started school.

Flamesparrow · 22/11/2006 07:36

I'm here with a few questions... we're half talking about modelling with DD, possibly DS too. We have absolutely no money right now - food is an issue at the moment, so obv can't afford to pay the £40-£100 odd that some of the agencies ask for.

We are also outside London (Bournemouth), and I am worrying about how much of an issue that would be - I do have a car though.

AllieBongo was saying last night that she didn't have to pay for her agency, which got me more intrigued, and then you others (Quadrophenia, yackertyyack ) inticed me over too

Sooo... I'm not sure if I actually asked any questions there... but any advice based on what I have rambled about would be great!!

julie4travel · 22/11/2006 08:07

morning everyone. well my ds loved the ted baker casting last night. the office was really funky and modern. they gave him some ted baker top trumps and a pen and he was really happy. the clothes were lovely. my ds came accross as really cute which i guess will not be the image they want to portray. saying that we had a lovely evening and went to meet the students for the film after - who were lovely - and normal. had a pizza. a later night for my son yet he said can we do it again. certainly the best casting yet. also in their lift was buttons you press which make noises my son loved pressing them all etc. we went from charlie and the chocolate factory noises to dr who exterminate ones!

Flamesparrow welcome to the thread. my ds is with b and b and they do not charge for assesment or a one off fee although they will take £25 from the first jobs earnings for a web site fee/ i did pay to go in the model book yet that is not compulsary.

Good luck in your decisions. There is a website called www.childmodelling.net which has agency profiles etc on it

Tinkerbel5 · 22/11/2006 09:28

Nice one julie, glad your lo loved his casting, fingers crossed for him x

julie4travel · 22/11/2006 09:40

thanks tink- doubt he will get it as think they wont prob want cute yet was a positive experience

2manypimms - how did you go was it just for one of your kids or more?

marymay · 22/11/2006 09:42

hi mysonsmummy..do you know the name off the photo library the castings is for? ours was called monkey business.it sounds a little different to the ones ragamuffins children have been to.tbh i did felt the same as you. couldnt they just get the pictures and the information from the agency.

the school situation is hard. m.i.l nags me.the way i look at it they may not get the opportunity again.i dont think the odd hour off school hurts their education .there are children in dd and ds class that have weeks off sick.

julie..well done on ds casting sounds like it was fun.

julie4travel · 22/11/2006 09:47

marymary- i feel the same about school. ds only missed pe yesterday , i take the time on the train etc to do reading etc with him which i feel is beneficial as he is getting the one on one attention.

yesterdays casting he was on stage for his photo and they said do you want to sing a song and he said no yet the next minute he said i dont know what to sing. if he had a song in mind he would have done it! they said to him are you a good singer and he says yes! he loves singing yet i would say not very good at it. if someone had asked him a couple of years ago to do that he would have said no way and not even consider it. i think his confidence only grows from these experiences so why not and he enjoys it!

Lolly68 · 22/11/2006 09:53
