Reading another thread has made me keep thinking this question. I don't understand how anyone can be totally one way.
For me I think it is up to each person and I wouldn't judge anyones decision.
I personally think that whether to keep a child is complex. It changes your life forever when you have children! I don't see how it is beneficial to mother or child if their lives will be miserable.
You only get ONE LIFE and need to make the most of it.

are you a perfect human being at all times ?as if thats the case would love to meet you I have never met a perfect person before...

JennyLeEVIL · 21/10/2006 20:11

maybe we could all learn how to become perfect and never make mistakes

lulumama · 21/10/2006 20:11

i think divastrop fully intended that to be a shocking statement..and whether deliberately cruel......god, i am absolutely fuming

My PND rendered me seriously ill for a long long time, giving my attention and love to the child i had and to my husband was more than i could bear at times....

so i should have just coped with another child had i fallen pregnant or damaged my relationship by not having sex until i was better!!!!

and you say you've had PND ...unbelievable.....

QuootieSpookypie · 21/10/2006 20:12

CCC... me?

foxinsocks · 21/10/2006 20:13

my goodness, if women only had sex when they wanted to get pregnant, that would be like going back to the dark ages (in fact, not even the dark ages because I bet they shagged for fun even then...)

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 21/10/2006 20:14

Not you Q, anyone who feels that they have the right to pontificate on matters of personal morality. Particularly if that is at the expense of the feelings of others.

JennyLeEVIL · 21/10/2006 20:14

I have had no abortions and i am pro choice,

I think women should be supportive of each other and respect other peoples opinions, and have some tact

divastrop · 21/10/2006 20:15

i am not talking about rape cases,as i have said before.

i am sorry that statement was made in the heat of the moment and was not thought about.i am sorry to those who i offended with that comment.

i wanted to make the point that i,personally, dont hthink that being pg to a violent man or because contraception fails are good enough reasons to end a pregnancy.

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 20:16

It's amazing how much misery and grief one barking poster can cause on a thread whih was otherwise quite constructive and supportive

JennyLeEVIL · 21/10/2006 20:16

what is a good enough reason? thats entirely subjective and can't be generalised as everyone is different

lulumama · 21/10/2006 20:16

it's good enough reason for some.....

and thank you for the apology--- that last statement offended me to my core...

Tinker · 21/10/2006 20:17

So, divastrop, what do you want to happen then to someone who doesn't wish to continue with a pregnancy?

pucca · 21/10/2006 20:20

Divastop...To be perfectly honest after some of your posts i couldn't actually give a monkeys about whether you think i did right or wrong.

I don't think you did right by subjecting your kids to that type of person tbh, i can't think of a worse person to have in a childs life than a man who could beat and rape a woman. So each to their own i guess.

HappyMumof2 · 21/10/2006 20:26

divastrop · 21/10/2006 20:29

thats why i ended the relationship with him.

JennyLeEVIL · 21/10/2006 20:31

nothing you have said can change anyones mind about this divastrop. you could have stated your beliefs differently and maybe some people would think 'I can see where she is coming from', but the way you went about it just made everyone angry and uspet for those who have been offended by you

HumphreyComfrey · 21/10/2006 20:33

At least Divastrop has apologised now.

There have been lots of hurtful comments on this thread, some of them much earlier, and certain posters seem to be quite proud of the extreme reactions their comments have received.

This thread has certainly taught me not to use my personal experiences to try and illustrate to others that life is not always black and white, and sometimes there just aren't any proper options.

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 20:37

Sadly this issue is a good example of women demonizing and judging one another when they should be supporting and understanding one another. IMO those who have made cruel and pointless remarks should be ashamed of themselves, NOT those who have made difficult and painful decisions and are struggling to come to terms with them.

divastrop · 21/10/2006 20:39

i should not have posted on this thread.i know this is one of the few subjects i tend to 'preach' about rather than just stating my opinion whilst considering the feelings and opinions of others.i have no right to judge anybody and i apologise again for causing offence and upset.i have reported the offending post myself and asked that it be removed.i will stay away from threads on this subject in the future.

lulumama · 21/10/2006 20:42

thanks diva - that is a genuine and well meant apology...and i think enough;s enough for me! off to the bar thread!

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 20:43

That's a lovely apology divastrop.

I'm clearing off this thread too, I don't think my rage-filled expostulations are helping anyone

kittythescarygoblin · 21/10/2006 20:45

Thanks for the support
I think whatever people's personal views on the subject they should respect women's right to chose what is right for them.
Unless they are serial abortonists (I have heard of them) and they have given the matter PROPER consideration, I think they should chose. Bad situations happen to people, accidents happen, you can't condemn people for that.

MKG · 21/10/2006 21:11

I think it depends on the individual.

I know some people that should never have children. If they did the kids would have terrible lives.
I also knew a girl in high school that had 3 abortions before graduating high school. I'm sorry but it makes me sick. I just wanted to scream "Close your legs!"

I'm in the US and here a "fetus" past 24 weeks (I'm not sure exactly on that number) has some rights. For example, if a pregnant woman is killed and her baby is 24 + weeks the criminal is charged with 2 counts of murder not 1.

I personally couldn't do it but the choice should be there for others.

Greensleeves · 21/10/2006 21:12

But in the case of someone like that girl it's the promiscuity and carelessness and disrespect for ehrself and others that's revolting, not teh act of abortion itself.

Oh arse, I said I was parping. I am now.

JennyLeEVIL · 21/10/2006 21:14

Thanks for the apology divastrop

I think i was being a bit too carried away also so im off to read some other threads
