What pointless one woman/man boycott are you staging?

nevergoogle · 25/09/2014 15:28

Here's my one woman boycotts.

I have boycotted Wadebridge because they elected a total wanker to the town council who said that disabled children should be culled to save money. I rarely visit Wadebridge anyway.

I have also boycotted Dartington Hall Estate for unreasonable parking fines. I park outside the grounds. Nobody cares.

And lego minifigures as DS2 always ends up with a frigging princess or mermaid or something and we have to deal with the tears. I'm sure their sales figures are unaffected.

None of my boycotts will make any difference whatsoever. I realise this.

So what are your pointless boycotts?

I am adding the "local" Tex Mex restaurant that I used to get the nice sausage from. Twice now they've accepted an order only to cancel it five minutes later because they're too busy. Hmm

I shall not return, bastards!

DP wants to boycott our chickens, they were spooked a few days ago and haven't been laying well since.
I did point out that I don't think it's called as boycotting them if he's still down there hand feeding them mealworms Grin

HeeHiles · 28/09/2014 00:11

< whispers > What's the thing about palm oil?

And the Tiggers

Avoid Palm Oil and Protest whenever you come across it!

HeeHiles · 28/09/2014 00:12

Christopher Walken because he was with Natalie Wood when she died

Do you think he did it? Or he's not saying?

HeeHiles · 28/09/2014 00:15

Dysons! Since they moved their manufacturing out of UK - In fact I just remembered boycotting M&S years ago for doing the same thing but had forgotton Blush

Need to start making a list!

nevergoogle · 28/09/2014 00:23

Yes, i think remembering your boycotts is really hard!

For some reason my well meaning boycott of johnson's is forgotten as soon as i am in the supermarket looking for baby bath. Perhaps i'm just not outraged enough.

OP posts:
TheWoollybacksWife · 28/09/2014 01:27

No I don't think Christopher Walken did it - she was married to Robert Wagner and I loved Hart to Hart when I was little. I think it might have been the first celeb death that I was aware of. I've since read that there were other people on the boat at the time of her death (including her husband) but I think the sensationalist news reporting at the time just struck a chord with me. I've held that grudge for over 30 years. I don't claim to be rational. Smile

agnesf · 28/09/2014 01:44

Dogs because of their high carbon footprint. Cats because of their impact on local bird populations.

Primark because they promote throw away fashion and treat their staff badly.

saffronwblue · 28/09/2014 02:10

Our local hair salon. They had a huge sign in the window offering a discount on hair colour. After they had left the colour on too long and fried my hair while chatting inanely to each other they said the discount did not apply to me as I was not a new customer.

Nandos because it is overpriced, disgusting and takes too long.

MexicanSpringtime · 28/09/2014 02:22

Mmm, I boycott supermarkets because I live in Mexico and don't want to go the way of England where it is almost impossible to shop elsewhere and I love markets and small shops, pretty futile as very few Mexicans do boycotts.

But my most futile boycott was against Shell (because of their actions in the Nigerian Delta) when I don't have a car.

Canyouforgiveher · 28/09/2014 02:38

Barilla pasta because of the recent homophobic comments of the company's chairman.

Chick a fil chain in USA for similar reasons (mind you probably wouldn't eat there anyway)

Dh won't but any clothes made in third world countries.

Karenthetoadslayer · 28/09/2014 17:00

The corner shop, since they had a UKIP poster in the shop window.

HeeHiles · 28/09/2014 23:55

Nandos because it is overpriced, disgusting and takes too long

Oh yes my Nando's boycott - revolting place!

BikeRunSki · 29/09/2014 05:47

The main Skoda dealers in W Yorks, DM Keith. They had my brand new car in 4 times over 6 months and failed to diagnose a potentially dangerous and costly fault. I was increasingly pregnant too, and they kept telling me I was imagining things. It eventually went to a different dealership who had it two weeks and systematically took it apart, found the fault and repaired it. They rang me every day or two to report on progress, and ask would always jokingly ask "have you had your baby yet?". The day they rang to say my car was ready was the day after the night dd was born. They returned my car to home with a huge bouquet on the passenger seat. I now always get my car serviced there, even though they are a good 45 mins drive out of my way.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 29/09/2014 09:07

Oh, I forgot my boycott of Dan I have a famous Dad Snow. He was at Uni with me, two years above, and was a total cunt, and pushed my boyfriend down some stairs once. I loathe him and his stupid tv programmes.

I also boycott Myleene Panface Klass as DH inexplicably claims to find her attractive.

Neither of them has yet arrived on my doorstep to apologise, and beg forgiveness. Rude.

Catmint · 29/09/2014 09:20

I love these!

I boycott Fentiman's soft drinks because they are appallingly expensive.

Also because I wrote an amazing poem for a competition they were doing about 10 years ago, and I wasn't even one of 500 runners up.

ScrambledSmegs · 29/09/2014 09:49

I boycott a local coffee shop, because the mother of the owner went so nutty over my baby that she actually got her out of her pram and walked off with her before I could do or say anything Shock

Never been back since. They seem to be doing very well so I doubt my absence has been noted apart from by Mamma I bet.

I also boycott the Murdoch press. He was still a squillionaire the last time I looked.

bobthebuddha · 29/09/2014 13:06

Hunter wellies - because their 'creative director' aka Mr Stella McCartney was always so sodding sarcastic to me at college years ago. And they're trumpeted as a 'British' when they're mostly made in China anyway. You can keep 'em!

ArcheryAnnie · 29/09/2014 13:35

Good grief, Scrambled - I'd have done my nut!

And agreed, saffron. Nandos is just a chicken shop, and the prices are ridiculous.

Now also boycotting Jamies Italian - though not really a boycott, just a realisation that if it can't really get spag bol right (it's nasty), then I'm better off cooking at home. I'm a rotten cook, and still my pasta is better.

It's a shame, though, as I wanted it to be good - we've been there about half a dozen times for celebration-type meals, and each time it's been pretty meh, with a massive bill.

Titsalinabumsquash · 29/09/2014 14:19

Our local Jamie's Italian is amazing! Their Spag Bol is my favourite ever! Shock

DP likes it because they do whopping portions of Tiramisu which is his favourite.
Maybe it's a location thing.

Purpleflamingos · 29/09/2014 14:21

Tidying up after DH. Does that count?

My reasoning is he's not a child do I shouldn't have to. Also pointless because he never notices his mess (only everyone else's).

ArcheryAnnie · 29/09/2014 14:22

Maybe - this is the one in Westfield. Their spag bol is boring and un-luscious, and so oversalted than more than a spoonful makes you feel sick.

AnywhereOverTheRainbow · 29/09/2014 14:25

I boycott W. Allen movies, obvious reasons (as atticusclaw stated upthread).

I also boycott anything concerning Jamie Oliver because I still have to find one of his recipes 'feasible', quantities of the ingredients are all wrong (I'm a souschef, so I've made loads and none of them works!).

I try to boycott anything edible coming from China.

ScrambledSmegs · 29/09/2014 14:34

Grin I'm surprised I didn't, Annie! I dithered for a bit in a very British, ooh I don't want to offend anyone way, then I pulled myself together and went and retrieved my baby. Mamma was most put out and acted as if I was in the wrong and needed to apologise to her.

Not bloody likely!

WhoeverYouWantMeToBe · 29/09/2014 14:41

I boycott Office (the shoe shop) after they were extremely rude and unhelpful to my lovely Grandma when they refused to honour a discount on a pair of shoes for me, which she had gone to buy on behalf of my Mum for birthday.

Canidae · 29/09/2014 14:47

Pets at Home after they delivered me mouldy dog food and wouldn't respond to my emails. Woman on phone was really rude and told me I would have to take the moudly food to my nearset store (40 min drive) to get me refund. I got the refund and left the food on their counter. Haven't been back since.

I know they won't miss me but I used to spend loads of money with them.
