What would be the deciding criteria to get it NHS. I hate mine so much that my DH hasn't even seen me starkers in daylight for 9yrs,

whiffy · 13/09/2006 09:42

Couple of things to throw into the debate.... I saw one of the top private surgeons about this and he personally won't operate on anyone whose BMI isn't in the normal range (under 26) so I doubt NHS will accept you as patient if you are overweight (though I agree that the more weight you lose the worse it looks); they also won't operate if you might possibly be wanting another child.

Regarding exercise, both the surgeon and my personal trainer told me that I MUST NOT DO SIT-UPS. what happens is that the muscles get stronger but, if they haven't already knitted back together naturally within 9 months of birth, then they will never knit themselves back together of their own accord. Then if you do stuff like sit-ups and crunchies the bigger the muscles get the more they push apart from each other and make your stomach look even worse.

i can no longer have children my bmi is 25 the amount of skin is ridiculous it takes three hands to hold it all you can imagine what it looks like in jeans or any type of trousers. i have spoken to my local hospital and for my area there are no funds in the pct, they cant even give breast cancer ladies reconstructive surgery on breasts for at least another 18 months which is appalling, i am booking in to see a bmi surgeon and go from there until then i will keep up with antibiotic cream everytime the scar flares up

buktus · 13/09/2006 11:17

so did you not have the op because your bmi is overweight

buktus · 13/09/2006 11:19

no amount of sit ups will remove skin i only work out cardio

oh bukt regarding breast surgery reconstruction. Some of the patients that we see are outside of our PCT as the trust they are in don't offer it.

buktus · 14/09/2006 20:54

Good luck.

buktus i'm here if you want to ask anything, i had to take 4weeks recovery time after the surgery, you won't be able to lift anything in these 4 weeks not even small children, your stomach muscles are stitched back together and lifting could cause problems for your skin and muscle to knit back together, also pockets of fluid could build up behind the skin if you try to lift anything, the consultant explained it a bit like wallpapering a wall with paste and moving it about too much before it sticks therfore it causing bubbles in the paper!

buktus · 25/09/2006 15:53

how long were you in for and how much did it cost

visited the surgeon today and i am an ideal candidate so happy i nearly kissed him have to phone on friday to book the date so 4 weeks hopefully, he said he could get brilliant results, just had to tell someone as i am so excited, even though i have to wait for it to heal and everything i just cant wait to buy a nice pair of jeans without worrying about long tops to cover the big saggy tummy

wow - that's good news. Think I'm going to need one of those once I've lost a load more weight. Hope it all goes well for you, buktus.

buktus · 27/09/2006 14:06

thanks for replying i thought my bmi was going to be too high but he said that was fine, he suggestes that the bmi tabel is not entirely accurate as its based on when women were on avergae a size 10/12 and now the average size of a woman is a 16 - such a lovely man lol
