Zombie's journey with breast cancer

The thread that Val started has now been moved to General Health. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2016081-Zombie-needs-her-limbs-holding?msgid=46439734

Please keep posting there if you wish.

As most of you know, I'm having my second mastectomy on Thursday. I will almost certainly need to have more chemotherapy.

This is my thread for those who wish to walk beside me on my journey.

Afternoon Zombie.

mummylin2495 · 19/05/2014 21:07

Glad you had a great weekend Zombie, not long till your friend arrives. Is it the one who makes those lovely cakes ?

IamtheZombie · 19/05/2014 21:18

Evening!!

Which friend, Jux? I suppose it doesn't matter as they are all doing well. Kos is magical. And I will need to reclaim that magic as FuckingArseholeTwatH is taking his 'partner' there for a fortnight on Wednesday. I do hope someone mentions that he and I were there together in August/September. I know that he swore blind to her that he wasn't with me. He just keeps giving new meaning to WANKER.

Waves back at Exit.

MNPinto, hello. Might you be a returner who has been absent from these shores for too long? If so, Happy Birthday. If not, PM me!

It's been another lovely and productive day. The laundry mountain is rapidly diminishing. Wardrobes and chests of drawers are being sorted and reorganised. Clothes that are either too small or too large but which are still in perfect condition are being packed up in vacuum storage bags. A veritable host of spiders have lost their homes. Car is loaded for a stop at the recycling centre on my way to the hospital tomorrow. Cats are fed. I am fed.

Ahhhh... Now I can relax for the evening. Grin Grin Grin

Good luck with your scan, fingers crossed it will be good news. And I hope you can wangle a hint as to your results

IamtheZombie · 19/05/2014 22:15

Thanks, mummy. The scan will show what it shows. At least I'll know the full strength of what I'm facing. Then the doctors can throw everything in their repetoire at it.

mummylin2495 · 19/05/2014 22:31

I feel quite sure that whatever it shows , you will face up to it with courage and just get on with the treatment, hopefully it will show nothing at all and we will all celebrate that with you Thanks

Jux · 20/05/2014 08:36

Blush got confused - rl interrupting the important stuff. I meant the friend who hasn't arrived yet!

Good luck today. Knowledge is power, as they say.

IamtheZombie · 20/05/2014 17:22

I'm home from the scan. I must say it was an interesting experience. I didn't have to change into a gown, just slip my trousers down to just below my bum. They did one scan - back and forth through the doughnut. Then they injected the contast. Initially it felt cold going up my vein but after several seconds there was an intense rush of heat throughout my entire body. Then they did a second scan. And that was it. I was on my way out. They weren't able to tell me anything but in less than 48 hours I'll find out anyway.

Serena Seroma has decided to return for another visit. I rang and left a message for my BCN this morning asking whether it could be drained at my oncology appointment on Thursday or if I should report to either tomorrow's clinic at the Princess Royal or Fridays' clinic at the Royal Shrewsbury. Naturally she tried to ring me while I was in the middle of the scan. Ah, well. I expect I'll hear from her in the morning.

I'm planning a very relaxing evening.

mummylin2495 · 20/05/2014 17:34

Glad it went ok but sorry you didn't find anything out today, but as you say only two days to wait. What a nuisance you have to have another draining session, lets hope it will be the last. Enjoy your relaxing evening, you deserve it.

IamtheZombie · 20/05/2014 18:03

Realistically I knew they wouldn't be able to say. The radiographer explained that they take a total of 280 images and it takes time for them to be assembled.

I'll spend tomorrow doing more to get ready for Ally's arrival. She'll be in 40 hours and we are both excited beyond belief.

When I checked my email I found one from my BCN. Serena will be drained on Friday at 11.00am. At least it will give me the opportunity to bring the surgical team up to date. AND, 11.00am appointment = MaccyD breakfast on the way!!

So you have appointments on thurs and fri ? Have I got that right. Hopefully by the end of this week then , you should know exactly what is going on and how your treatment will progress

Allalonenow · 20/05/2014 18:17

Well done Zombie on getting through today, now a quiet evening sounds just right. Wine < whispers....chin chin>

IamtheZombie · 20/05/2014 18:19

Yes, mummy. I see the oncologist at 4.30 Thursday afternoon and then the surgeon & BCN at 11.00 Friday morning.

Cheers, All!!

Zombie, just a quick hello, just catching up with your thread and wanted to say How strong and brave you are xx

foofooyeah · 20/05/2014 18:34

zombie interesting, when I had my ct scan I could stay fully clothed, they did say to wear loose clothing. Perhaps they just wanted a look at your bum :-)

Mine also had an American voice that said "breathe in and hold" and then 5 secs later "and breathe out"

It was v quick.

LackaDAISYcal · 20/05/2014 18:39

I had a CT scan recently and had to wear a hospital gown, then pull my trousers half way down my thighs so they could do the abdomen.

It is a very odd sensation when the contrast stuff goes in and you go all warm and feel like you need a wee.

IamtheZombie · 20/05/2014 18:47

Thanks, Lacka. As I have no boobs I don't wear a bra so they just told me to keep my top on. I agree it is a very strange sensation.

foofoo, my trousers had metal hooks so I had to pull them down. Trust me, my arse is so scrawny that no one would want to see it. I didn't notice the accent but those words sound familiar. Grin

I was in bed by 11.15, All. Aside from my usual 2 hourly half wake up to change position I was out until 7.30 this morning. I feel great this morning so fingers crossed for a productive day. Grin
