IamtheZombie · 15/04/2014 23:24

The thread that Val started has now been moved to General Health. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2016081-Zombie-needs-her-limbs-holding?msgid=46439734

Please keep posting there if you wish.

As most of you know, I'm having my second mastectomy on Thursday. I will almost certainly need to have more chemotherapy.

This is my thread for those who wish to walk beside me on my journey.

Hi Zombie wishing you well.

I read through your threads and it galvanised me to have a mammogram when they sent me the letter.
Ignored all my work collegues who told me it was grim.
It wasn't too grim.
Thank You for the push,

IamtheZombie · 21/05/2014 20:55

Thanks, 70. I'm so glad you went. A mammogram can be a bit uncomfortable for a few seconds but it can potentially save your life.

Fingers crossed that your results are clear. Do let me know. xx

IamtheZombie · 22/05/2014 08:25

Thanks, mummy. She should be here in about an hour now.

I have received a GOOD OMEN about today. I won £25 on Lotto and £10 on Thunderball.

That was a very good start Zombie, and the day is set to get even better. I expect your friend is here now so that was the next good thing. Don't want to jinx anything but lets hope there is a third thing to celebrate !

IamtheZombie · 22/05/2014 10:54

She's been delayed. She's just texted to say she'll be here at midday.

Oh that's a nuisance, but less than an hour to go now ! What time is your apt ?

IamtheZombie · 22/05/2014 11:27

The appointment isn't until 4.30. The last appointment slot of the day. I'm trying not to read any more into that than the oncologist wants to be able to spend as much time with me as is needed to explain the scan results and go through all of my treatment options.

Thankfully , your friend being with you will help the time to pass until this afternoon. Will be thinking of you.

weebarra · 22/05/2014 11:43

Thinking of you today Zombie.

First time posting on one of your threads zombie, I have just spent almost an hour reading through some of them after searching mascetomy as my dm has just undergone one (her second diagnosis of breast cancer)

Your energy, positivity and fight had me smiling through tears.

I wish you all the very best for your results today.

My dm underwent all the same test as you and we had a tense time yesterday waiting for the results.

Much love x

IamtheZombie · 22/05/2014 21:18

Just recently home from hospital and dinner.

The appointment with the oncologist went well. My CT scan results weren't available yet but Dr. Gadir stressed that the results wouldn't change his treatment recommendations. If the scan is clear the treatment will be intended to cure. If the scan shows further spread the treatment will be to keep it under control for as long as possible.

I will start with 6 cycles of Docetaxel. Dr. Gadir stressed that is a very tough regimen. I will start on a modified dose of 75% and if I tolerate that well we will probably increase to 100% after a couple of cycles. Cycle is the usual 3 weeks between treatment. I have my pre-chemo assessment appointment on 2nd June. The first cycle will start a couple of weeks later.

I will also have another course of Herceptin. That may start while I'm still receiving the Docetaxel. That will be discussed at my next oncology appointment on 3rd July.

When I see my BCN tomorrow morning to have Serena drained I'll ask her when the scan report should be ready to go to the Multi Disciplinary Team. Apparently she will then be the one to tell me the results.

So the journey has well and truly begun even though parts of the path are yet to be revealed.

Ally and I are about to start on the wine!

zombie I'm so sorry that you didn't receive more precise answers.

We were very fortunate that before any surgery our hospital gave my mum a full body scan and countless blood test.

So when she went back to see her consultant post op they had all the results.

It's still unclear how much if any chemo mum will need but I'll be following you on your journey and wish you all the best in the coming months.

I hope you haven't got to much of a hangover this morning Wink

magimedi · 23/05/2014 09:04

And all crossed here for a clear scan asap.

flatbellyfella · 23/05/2014 09:22

mummylin2495 · 24/05/2014 11:40

Hope your apt with bcn nurse went ok and draining went well. Have a great weekend with your lovely friend.

IamtheZombie · 24/05/2014 11:44

Morning all.

We had a busy day yesterday. Left home at 9.45am and got to MaccyD in time for breakfast before proceeding to the hospital. The doctor drained another 150ml of fluid. I also spoke with my BCN about my scan results. She has put me on the Multi Disciplinary Team meeting agenda for next Tuesday. Being on the agenda may speed up the scan report. Even if it doesn't speed it up enough for next Tuesday, it will certainly be available for the following Tuesday. So either way it's not long to wait.

We then met my niece for lunch. I was able to explain to her about my treatment. We had a lovely time.

A not so quick zip around Tesco was next and we're fully stocked for the weekend.

Ally made a lovely dinner last night and we had an early night followed by a lie-in this morning.

There are no plans for today. We'll just take it as it comes. Grin
