Zombie's journey with breast cancer

IamtheZombie · 15/04/2014 23:24

The thread that Val started has now been moved to General Health. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2016081-Zombie-needs-her-limbs-holding?msgid=46439734

Please keep posting there if you wish.

As most of you know, I'm having my second mastectomy on Thursday. I will almost certainly need to have more chemotherapy.

This is my thread for those who wish to walk beside me on my journey.

fx she did, but if no eyes I'll send you a pack of Sharpies to draw them!Grin

what is Desdemona exactly? I admit I'm only guessing it's to drain fluid from site of operation, is that correct?
I hope it doesn't hurt.Thanks

IamtheZombie · 20/04/2014 15:25

Yes, Desdemona is my drain. It's more uncomfortable than painful. Unless I accidently tug on her. Then it's an OUCH. I haven't done that since yesterday. Grin

AlpacaPicnic · 20/04/2014 15:45

Wine. Wine dulls pain right?

Have you ever fallen over on a night out and been all 'taadaa' and the next day been all 'a aargh, that must have huuuurt'
That's because of magical wine...

IamtheZombie · 20/04/2014 18:31

Wine has many magical properties, Alpaca. Becky and I have had a bottle or two and a bit with our roast.

Currently considering the wisdom of champagne later...

AlpacaLypse · 21/04/2014 13:28

Hi Zombie, hope it's all going well today.

IamtheZombie · 21/04/2014 14:16

It is, Alpaca. Grin

Becky will be leaving in about 20 minutes. It's been fabulous having her here to keep me company.

I have a confession. I've not just sat around letting her wait on me. I've been doing as much (mainly cooking) as I can. I needed to make sure that I could take care of myself before she left. I've also gone for a very short (1 mile round trip) drive to the garage down the road this afternoon. I'm not planning any long drives for a while but, again, at least I now know that I'm OK to drive that far if I need to pop out for bread or milk.

The District Nurse rang this morning. We agreed that they would come tomorrow to remove the drain and change my dressing.

All in all, I'm feeling very well.

Ooh, can we post you pointless luxuries?

IamtheZombie · 21/04/2014 14:40

Pointless luxury is always good, Liney. Wink

Good to hear you're regaining some independence, don't over do it though.

What did your lovely neighbour do in your garden?

IamtheZombie · 21/04/2014 20:14

Bee, he's made a start on strimming the lawns (grass far too high to mow), deadheading things that should have been deadheaded last year and general tidying.

I've had a lovely long nap. ZombieCats want their dinner. I think I'll have poached eggs on mashed potato for my dinner. (Becky made industrial quantities of mash last night.)

AlpacaYourThings · 21/04/2014 20:20

Ooh, that sounds like a lovely dinner Zombie

LineRunner · 21/04/2014 20:23

What does actually constitute a pointless luxury? So far I have in my list:

After Eights
Shiny notebooks

It's not a very good list.

IamtheZombie · 21/04/2014 20:23

Very much comfort food, Alpaca. Also very tasty!

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 21/04/2014 20:24

Cheese for Zombie, I think, LineRunner.

Easter Grin
AlpacaYourThings · 21/04/2014 20:39

Cheesy mash

LineRunner · 21/04/2014 20:43

Am I allowed to post cheese? It would be handy to get through the letterbox. Unless you want a complete Edam, Zombie. That could be troublesome.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 21/04/2014 22:46

I'm not sure that there is any such thing as a pointless luxury.

Isn't a luxury something that makes you feel fabulous?

If it achieves that, surely it's not pointless?

Maybe unnecessary, as far as survival goes, but not pointless.

We need a new definition.

I'll be back Grin

LineRunner · 21/04/2014 22:49

Hurry up!
