Hello...

OP posts:
kimjl · 10/08/2006 15:57

Hi, I'm new here. I have recently moved to London and want my daughter to join an agency as is very keen on it.
I have sent her photo to an agency called Elisabeth Smith and they invited her for an interview, I heard of this agency on a tv program and I wanted to know if anybody here has any comment on them? Is it normal for agencies to charge interview and joining fees?
I would be grateful for any sort of advice you can give me.

mrratty · 10/08/2006 16:15

julie4travel - did the office seem busy and were there lots of children pics around? Will they do modelling only?

kimjl - ES are well know, the first childrens aagency I think. The downside is that they are very expensive and seem to have alot of chidren on thier books. I would try some of the cheaper one first who get a lot of work such as MOT and Bruce and Brown.

Hi everyone, hope that everyone is well

kimjl> How old is your DD? In my opinion, ES are well known, but they are not what they used to be.
Some people may disagree but I have never met any LO's with ES at castings or jobs. I do not personally like the idea that they charge for an assesment and their fees are high. I would say try AK, B&B, KL and MOT first. Good Luck

mrratty> thats great that your DD will be in the shop windows soon. How exciting

YummyMummy21 · 10/08/2006 17:21

There is also Urban Angels, however they are not doing a new intake until Nov

xXx

mysonsmummy · 10/08/2006 17:39

princess - i cant believe a doctor can charge that just to sign a letter. i think it varies widely from surgery to surgery. mine dont charge anything at all so they dont have to charge they just choose to.

YummyMummy21 · 10/08/2006 17:44

Princess> My doctors didnt charge for the letter this time, but he said that if it became to regular then he would have too. It would still only be £12 though.

mrratty · 10/08/2006 17:52

They charge because it is not something they have to do and asking for a letter you are taking time away from sick people. DD's dr charges £11, somehow we have always got away without paying!

Hi everyone....Back from our WHSmith shoot today with DD. It was really lovely and fun! She really enjoyed it. She and little boy doing job with her were both given a parcel of books at the end of the shoot. She was given 8 books, which was such a lovely surprise!

princessmel......Our GP charges £10 per letter ....so £20 for each child every 6 months. I think your GP is having a laugh at that price!! I have never heard of anyone charging that much.

mrratty · 10/08/2006 18:18

Thats so nice to get a gift!

Those with B&B when you get paid do you normally recieve an invoice from them too?

OP posts:
Ragamuffin · 10/08/2006 18:46

Sorry, that should have read £20 for both children every 6 months!

princessmel · 10/08/2006 19:24

I think its alot too. And we were already at the docs for dd anyway so its not like I booked the appointment just for the licence letter. It needs his stamp on it too. Shall I question the price? I haven't collected it yet as when I popped in to get it I didn't have my cheque book with me. Theres a sign on the reception desk though stating charges and it said Cetificate of health (I think it was those words)£28 and listed a few more things they charge for. The receptionist said it had a note on it saying £28 was owed.
Julie. I'm glad it went well at BB.I'm sure they wouldn't have asked to see him if they weren't interested. Are your friend's LO's with Bubblegum babies?

princessmel · 10/08/2006 19:26

Sorry Julie didn't mean to put a . after your name! It looks like I'm cross!

I don't mind paying £1o-£15 for letter but I think my docs are ripping me off.

tigeryuan · 10/08/2006 19:36

hello everyone, hope everyone is ok, congrats to all the recent jobs and castings.
no modelling news for dd, but, have just found out im pregnant so thought id share!

kimjl · 10/08/2006 19:47

Thank you all for the help.
I've sent her pictures to MOT, B&B, KL, Bubblegum and others.
What does AK stands for? I will try all the agencies and see which ones will accept her before making up my mind, I read somewhere here that some agencies don't charge joining fees so hopefully we can find one of those.
My daughter is 10 years old, do you think that's a good age for modelling?

thorntons · 10/08/2006 19:49

Thorntons - You seem so busy at the moment. Wonderful news about Ayeshia, she must have work until she was quite far gone!
When did B&B last pay out. We haven't recieved any yet and was hoping to get some to help with the summer holiday, doesn't seem likely though.

lanismum · 10/08/2006 19:59

thorntons · 10/08/2006 20:00

Mratty, B and B do a pay run usually first week of every month. As you know some clients are very slow payers. We havent received any payment this month either, but jobs done in June so probably a bit premature. Why dont you email B and B to ask if you are due anything this month?

thorntons · 10/08/2006 20:03

Lanismum, thanks hun.Look after yourself and try and rest ,though I know Lani keeps you on your toes ! -gorgeous munchkin!!
