then you shouldnt drink. This is in reference to women who are "attacked" by men.

Also that if you go out dressed in a manner that makes you "look easy", you have "probably got to be able to stand up for yourself as well".

She wasnt particularly high in my estimation before.

She is certainly rock bottom now.

Bloodyfuckhellshitcock.

Birdbrained moron that she is, she's dropped in my esteem too.

You do know this will kick off, don't you?

chopsolata · 07/07/2006 23:42

sorry but whilst men have penises for brains she may have a point. As wrong as it may be, men are never going to be able to say, oh that poor girl has had one too many better put her in a taxi and get her home safe!!

Sad but true

Greensleeves · 07/07/2006 23:42

She's dropped in my estimation to. Before I would have placed her in the gutter. Now she's looking up at the gutter - from the sewer.

MrsJohnCusack · 07/07/2006 23:43

where did she say it? Any chance she's been misquoted?

Greensleeves · 07/07/2006 23:44

"men are never going to be able to say, oh that poor girl has had one too many better put her in a taxi and get her home safe!!"

I've known several men who have done exactly that (dh for one)

That's a really sexist attitude, chopsolata.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/07/2006 23:45

I dont care.

I think she is wrong and saying something like that when you are, i am sorry to say, an idol or inspiration to lots of young girls and guys, is just utterly irresponsible.

Its just wrong. Fullstop.

OP posts:
eenywifemum · 07/07/2006 23:45

sorry I shouldnt even be commenting I get so angry at crap like this. Yeah alright she may have a point that it is DANGEROUS but its only dangerous because SOME MEN feel they have no limits to what they can do! oh no... sorry this gets me too annoyed. Sorry, men are never going to 'be able to say' that they should put the girl in the taxi because society and other men and women dont come down hard on them enough.

iamapieceofcheesecake · 07/07/2006 23:46

Actually, I agree with Greensleeves, my dp would do exactly the same, and so would other male family members.
Anyway, back to Jordan, thats her excuse and shes sticking to it....

eenywifemum · 07/07/2006 23:47

yes greensleaves very good point - I know plenty of men who would and have done that very thing. Including my DH who would happily destroy any man who dared rape a woman.

hunkermunker · 07/07/2006 23:47

It's actually more dangerous from a health and "I'd quite like a liver in my old age" POV to go out and get this drunk with any regularity - didn't stop Jordan when she was pg with Harvey though, did it?

[bitch]

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/07/2006 23:47

Agree actually GS - its crass comments like that chops that make people think that rape and sexual assualt are in some way okay/excusable.

She said it in some cheap tat schleb magazine called New! It was one of those interviews which has the journo Q then her answers. Not my kind of reading usually but picked it up after a visitor left it at my work.

OP posts:
iamapieceofcheesecake · 07/07/2006 23:48

Yes eenywifemum, my dp has that very same attitude. That would include any physical violence too.

chopsolata · 07/07/2006 23:50

yes plenty of men would, but theres a whole lot more that wouldnt

fattiemumma · 07/07/2006 23:51

then she deserves to be raped frequently then by her own standards?

she walks around looking like a hooker for the majority of the time and i doubt for one second she could fight a determined man off.

sadly this view is held by many people and it is this ignorant and illinformed opinion that allows men to think it is ok to behave like that.
maybe if she looiked inot rape she would seee that it has nothing to do with what the person is wearing, many rapes are about power and control, they arent being turned on by the fact that yo are wearing a mni skirt but by the fact you are struggling and that they have control over you.

she is inno way qualified to speak about such subjects and should do us all a favour and keep her mouth shut unless talking about pink barbie dresses or other bimbo'esq products

Greensleeves · 07/07/2006 23:51

Can you substantiate that rather outrageous remark, chopsolata? Is sexism OK, as long as it's against men?

Ridiculous.

MrsJohnCusack · 07/07/2006 23:52

well I do get really fed up for men when people assume they're all incapable of any kind of self-control - it's really insulting and yes, sexist. Also very destructive towards relations between us all and ultimately women too.
It upsets my DH - he is the softest old teddy bear ever and hates it if anyone assumes he is a typical 'man' in any way.
If she said this, then yes, she is a moron, but I do sometimes wonder how words get twisted in shit journalism.

chopsolata · 07/07/2006 23:53

oh fgs I'm not saying sexism is ok, it just exists, do you live in the real world?

Greensleeves · 07/07/2006 23:53

I can't see why anyone find it a stretch to believe that she's a moron. She looks and behaves like a moron, doesn't she? In my opinion. Allegedly.

MrsJohnCusack · 07/07/2006 23:54

and the whole 'asking for it' argument/attitude is so depressing and insulting towards us ALL. Yes, maybe it's not such a sensible idea, but dressing in a cheap/easy way or all the other things that one can apparently do to make oneself look 'easy' (and there can seem to be an awful lot of them) doesn't mean that one then deserves to be attacked.

the idea that men can't control themselves is postively mediaeval

fattiemumma · 07/07/2006 23:56

maybe short skirt should be sold with a warning sign...may get you raped?

does that mean that if a man goes out and gets drunk he deserves to be beaten up? if they go to a football match they deserve to get in a fight?

what drivvel.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/07/2006 23:56

Well sexism exists with comments like yours ie when you make a sweeping generalisation about a gender without foundation.

Most men or certainly not a majority of them as you suggest, behave that way.

Unfortunately, that doesnt mean much anyway when you look at the number of rapes and assualts that happen that are actually reported, let alone those that arent.

OP posts:
iamapieceofcheesecake · 07/07/2006 23:58

When I used to go out clubbing, I am sorry to say that I used to dress like a bit of a slapper, and altho men would look, they never touched (except one, but got such bad daggers that he stayed away from me from then on, so was not a potential rapist imo). So, the moral to this story is that I think that Jordan is totally wrong in her 'findings'.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/07/2006 23:58

er do not behave that way....

OP posts:
edam · 07/07/2006 23:59

Funny how none of the people who subscribe to the 'she's asking for it' school of thought ever apply the same reasoning to other victims of crime, isn't it? 'Oh, it's my own fault my car got nicked, I shouldn't have left it conveniently parked by the roadside, I was just flaunting my car ownership'...

Greensleeves · 08/07/2006 00:01

Would you be happy to argue this point with any of the men who post on MN, chopsolata? Don't you know any husbands/fathers/brothers who deserve a little more respect than you're giving them?

I think I live in the real world - and I'm fully aware of the risk to women from a tiny minority of violent/sexually predatory men. I'm glad to say the world I live in is a nicer place than the one you're describing though. You sound a bit bitter.
