then you shouldnt drink. This is in reference to women who are "attacked" by men.

Also that if you go out dressed in a manner that makes you "look easy", you have "probably got to be able to stand up for yourself as well".

She wasnt particularly high in my estimation before.

She is certainly rock bottom now.

MB I think you will find that most women in the press these days look like total slappers and I think that girls aloud etc are more dangerous than Jordan as they portray themselves as everyday girls, you know the average girl type, it makes them more atainable and therefore more dangerous in my eyes.

flutterbee · 08/07/2006 15:59

Also she hasn't said anyone deserves anything.

Blandmum · 08/07/2006 16:02

I just find the 'you must look like a slut to be considered normal' endlessly depressing

It just inn't healthy to make women focus so much on what they look like, rather than what they are like IYSWIM

Martianbishop donning wimple!

Northerner · 08/07/2006 16:08

So what are you suggesting? That we should all wera polo necks and trousers an always be covered up?

flutterbee · 08/07/2006 16:09

Oh I agree MB, I can't stand the fact that when I walk down the street I am usually met by a group of girls who have not even hit puberty wearing skirts that show their knickers and tops that show off their very first training bra and enough make up on to keep Boots stocked up for the whole year.

What are the parents thinking, God I do sound like my Mum now.

nulnulcat · 08/07/2006 16:12

i agree with the last few posts and think people have misintrepted what jordan said, i used to work in a city centre pub and every weekend saw endless young girls get totally rat arsed so they didnt know what they were doing , 1 collapsed once her friends went and left her when we looked for id we found she was 14, it was the millenium and past 5am! she looked a lot older and was dressed as many of you would term tarty

a lot of young people dont know when to stop when it comes to alcohol i will freely admit that right up until i had dd at 32 i used to regularly go out and drink til i dropped but jobs i have done have meant i am well able to look after myself not all young girls are like that.

we used to see really drunk couples leave the pub together wouldnt know if they knew each other if the girl knew what she was doing or even if the lad was sober enough to know if he was going to far

i think what she was trying to say that if you cant go out and have a couple of drinks and stay safe but you have to drink to a point where you dont know what you are doing then you shouldnt drink and i agree

there is nothing wrong with wearing short skirts etc its the behaviour that goes with it that is the problem, girls dont wear much act in a sexually provocative manner in front of young blokes who have also had to much to drink bloke thinks he is given the green light and things can go to far,

just go to faliraki, magaluf and all the other 18 - 30 type resorts and it happens every night

these girls do look up to jordan and if what she says gets through to the girls and gets them to tone down there behaviour then who is to cricisise her

dont know if what im trying to say makes much sense but i know what i mean!

Blandmum · 08/07/2006 16:13

no, not that at all. I don't fwiw, think that dressing in a particular way make you a 'tart'

I also don't think it makes you deserve what you get.

What I wirry about is when I see healthy young women paranoid about what they look like, because they don't have massive knockers or feel comforatle and confident dressing in a specific way.

I think it is unhlathy wheb young women obsess about what they look like, to the point that they damage their education (and trust me I see this every day)

Looking good, and feeling happy with how you loook is a normal , healthy part of maturing, but only a part. And now it seems that we are putting way to much emphasis on the superficial.

I would be happier of the fixation on how you looks was lessened

Northerner · 08/07/2006 16:15

Yes MB, I agree with what you are saying. But slating Jordan is not going to help.

Women always judge other women, especially ones who are attractive, confident and overtly sexual.

Blandmum · 08/07/2006 16:19

I dislike the fact that she sells the image of woman as a sex toy, always up for it. It links to pronography which I think is very unhealthy.

Porn is an almost universal 'in' to sex for young boys, and they learn, via people very like Jordan, that girls are gagging for it, whatever time or place. Especialy if they 'look like' a tart.

'Wow lads look at her, drunk and pissed, I'll have some of that.'

Not a great leap of the imagination, is it?

You can't earn your cash pushing the image of the ever ready and up for sex girl and then complain if blokes take it up. And it isn't Jordan who suffers, it is that daft young 16 year old

WellKnownMemorablePeachyClair · 08/07/2006 16:29

She can be sensible tho, other day she was on This Morning (can you ttell fromt hat I've been depressed? LOL) and she was asked about her tattoo, and she made apoint that it wasn't cool for young girls to get them, only people old enough to know better. So i'm with SD, and actually OK, there is a negative side to her image but there is a HUGE positive one too- loving parent of a Sn kid, happily married, etc

southeastastra · 08/07/2006 16:43

what exactly did she say? and where was it printed?

MrsJohnCusack · 08/07/2006 16:45

I do think she's right that it's a carp idea to go out and get hammered, but I really don't feel I can trust what's written in a magazine like 'New' as I'm sure most of it is totally made up or twists people's words a lot.

MrsJohnCusack · 08/07/2006 16:46

or a crap idea even! carp probably completely irrelevant here....

SoupDragon · 08/07/2006 16:48

She hasn't said that anyone "deserves what they get".

For every knight in shining armour who'll put you in a cab when you're too sht faced to know what you're doing, there's a wnker who'll take advantage. You really shouldn't be drinking if alcohol gets you in that state. That's not the same as saying you deserve to get attacked. I know I always stopped drinking short of where I'd beunaware of what was happening or where I'd lose the ability to say no. It's basic self preservation.

And don't go out wearing a belt and a bra and very little else if you've not got safe transport sorted, a large posse of friends or can stand up for/defend yourself.

Equally, I wouldn't recommend going out to a gay hating part of town dressed like Daffydd from Little Britain unless you have a similar support system in place.

SoupDragon · 08/07/2006 16:49

and I don't mean that wearing a belt, bra and little else is an open invitation to be attacked. Wear what you like but be sensible about where you do it and who with.

southeastastra · 08/07/2006 16:49

the only thing i've read is that in her new novel (ghost written, admitted by kate), the girl's boyfriend puts a date rape drug in her drink and she doesn't dump him.

divamummy · 08/07/2006 16:59

i know lots of ppl love jordon she is mother, wife whatssoever.
but too me she is just women who loves money(yes i know we all love money, but).and she does everything to be on tabloids and covers of gossip papers and magazine. couple days ago i told dh, there will be a few dozen book when she die.she has got no public image, she is jordon when she wants flash her boobs, she is katie when she is innocent, and she mrs andre when she talks about her children.she will never lead quite private life, she will be making up some stories every a few weeks. i agree she is clever, she will get every opportuntity. what worries me is lots of ypung girls want to be jordon, they think oh isnt it easy to be jordon have some plactic boobs and start flashhing them go and sleep with everyone and kissntell.sorry i just cant continue, i personally find it disturbing, even writing about her. she does not exist

southeastastra · 08/07/2006 17:02

what's wrong with wanting money? i haven't met any young girls that want to be jordan either.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/07/2006 20:29

I'd like to point out, as the OP, that the bits i have quoted, are exactly that - quoted as written in the magazine. I dont know if it is a pile of shite magazine - i rarely read trashy mags. However, in this instance, i was more inclined to believe that no spin had been put on it because her beloved Pete writes a regular column for the magazine and felt that they would be less likely to do this.

Perhaps i shouldnt be oversensitive with the phraseology, but, i feel that its not the case of "being able to say no" that is the problem, and that as such somehow makes it the responsibility of the girl if she is attacked.

Its also the misapprehension that being able to stand up for yourself will help stop you being attacked. How you dress bears no relevance to it and i just find it disingenuous of her to suggest that it could.

Thats not an over reaction. I speak from experience on these matters unfortunately. You get attacked drunk or not. If a guy has his mind set to it, he will do his best to get you drunk/drugged as a means to an end. Apparently wearing polo neck jumpers and jeans makes no difference. Mind you, im not an advocate of anecdotal evidence so perhaps i shouldnt bring it into the discussion.

Trashy mags should be more responsible with what they print, Schlebs like Jordan should be more responsible with their somewhat niave perceptions of life.

I want money. Badly, desperately.

SoupDragon · 08/07/2006 20:33

Buy a water melon, cut it in half and shove the halves in your bra. Wear very little clothing.

Worked for her

Won't work for me, SD, but if you can think of anyone who will pay me to keep my clothes on to avoid being publicly offensive, CAT me.

SoupDragon · 08/07/2006 20:39

I'm not sure Jordan does only have half a brain you know. She seems to have been clever enough to make a load of money!

Blandmum · 08/07/2006 20:40
