no-one still flushes them do they?

do they?

i used to when i was younger but can't do it now, feel too guilty. it's such a faff though. i wrap them up in toilet paper and put them in nappy bags to be thrown out. is this ok or just as bad as flushing? i know i should get a mooncup by rights but i won't. so what's best?

ditto JanH Grin nearly 20 years in fact Shock

bramblina · 21/05/2006 23:21

Please someone tell me what a mooncup is....

Moomin · 21/05/2006 23:21

can't decide which is worse - tampons floating about in the sea or in nappy bags piling up in landfills. i had a verrrrrry embarrassing experience when i was younger with blocked drains. well, i was mortified at the time (i was 12) but now it's quite sad really and nothing to have been embarrassed about. i'd be more embarr if one of my poos blocked a toilet

That would be perfect with the earrings.

Moomin · 21/05/2006 23:23

isn't a mooncup a cup-like thingy you put up your fanny which catches the blood and you empty it out and wash it and re-use it? are they any good? what if you have heavy periods? can you feel them? do they drop out? might consider using one of i can get answers!

bramblina · 21/05/2006 23:23

Barmblina - its like a small rubbery funnel but with a blocked end IYSWIM. It catches menstrual blood and you tip it out and wash the mooncup (or sommat like that - yet to find out properly!)

bramblina · 21/05/2006 23:24

Shock No way?! How often do you use it? All the time or every 20 minutes?!?!

JanH · 21/05/2006 23:24

They don't break down, squarelady - just bob about in the sewage places (have to be fished out and removed probably)

And pray that it doesn't fall out. Which, with my pelvic basement, is likely.

bramblina · 21/05/2006 23:25

ShockShockShockShockShockShockGosh I am naiive.

misdee · 21/05/2006 23:26

you fold it up and inset it. it springs into place and you leave it there till you empty it (same as tampons to start with) they are great. i cant use pads and since having dd3 i found tampons awful as well.

SquarewaysHereWeCome · 21/05/2006 23:26

Ahhh! Janh... (dim light at end of tunnel appears).. so we are talking surf board and channel swimming issues here??

JanH · 21/05/2006 23:26

OMG, hunker Shock

(Had to click after being told not to, obv)

Blu · 21/05/2006 23:26

Surely sewage treatment filters out anything that wasn't originally swallowed?

Is there such a thing as a compostable tampon?? That would make sense, wouldn't it?

bramblina · 21/05/2006 23:26

Oh hell I wish I wasn't so bloody knackered...I really have to go to bed...will be laughing myself to sleep...arf arf arf....can't wait till the morning when I can come back and laugh more.....

bubble99 · 21/05/2006 23:27

Gah!! Some jewellery designer has beaten me to it. Angry

bramblina · 21/05/2006 23:27

Oh stop! Compostable tampon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

myturn · 21/05/2006 23:27

Envy at JT and JanH. Wonder if they do mooncup aversion therapy on the NHS....

JanH · 21/05/2006 23:27

Well I hope to god they never join the surfers but I guess it depends where you live Grin

That's the general problem though...
