Talking with a colleague we got round to washing (not sure how) and she revealed that she does several loads a day. One reason for this is that in her house, whenever anyone has a shower or bath, they get a clean towel, use it then drop it in the washing basket.
I was Shock at this. I change our towels once a week (everyone has their own for their exclusive use).
Quick poll round the office revealed that my colleague was excessive, but it was late and their were only 2 grungy men and a single woman so I felt I needed the guidance of MN-ers.
Sooooo - am I dirty? Or is my colleague a bit obsessive? Does anyone else do this?????

Your colleague is a nut. Why create work?

nailpolish · 13/03/2006 11:01

we all have our own towels and change them once a week also

especially in the winter when drying is a 'mare

Yorkiegirl · 13/03/2006 11:01

I wash our towels about twice a week, sometimes less than that!
So I don't think you're skanky. Your colleague is obsessed tho!
Speaking of which I must put a load of towels in!

milward · 13/03/2006 11:02

Like a hotel! - here have a new one as needed - every few days or so!!

Carmenere · 13/03/2006 11:02

She's obsessive, we all reuse our towels here at least once, so I'd change them probably twice a week at most.

Emma1404 · 13/03/2006 11:02

you are not dirty.....i think it is fine to wash towels once a week. I have a bath every other day and on the days i dont have a bath a have a wash, so i used a small towel for that and a large towel for the bath.....so does my hubby.

SoupDragon · 13/03/2006 11:02

Never.

After each use we throw our towels away and have a brand new one.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 11:03

I wash them as they are used
I dont want to dry myself knowing it has been wiped on someones arse and bits, that is just so gross

prettybird · 13/03/2006 11:04

Our towels are done once a fortnight Blush

Do my sheets every week and the rest of the bed lonen once a fortnight (the week "between" the towels).

nailpolish · 13/03/2006 11:04

but i wouldnt use someone elses

we have our own towels

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 11:05

so i am obsessive thenGrin

iota · 13/03/2006 11:05

SoupDragon - the Damon Dash of the domestic world Grin

Carmenere · 13/03/2006 11:05

Desperatescouse - we all use our own towels and tend to only dry ourselves when we are clean and freshly washed so it's not gross.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 11:06

well we all share the towels as there are so many of us, but we only use them once before they are laundered

Freckle · 13/03/2006 11:08

But do you fold them properly??

Feistybird · 13/03/2006 11:10

I change bath/shower towels once a week (we all just muck in and use whetevers there tho), but handtowels are changed more frequently as they tend to get grubby quickly with the kids wiping still-mucky faces/hands/noses on them Grin .

gomez · 13/03/2006 11:10

Daily changes here too - mainly because they get left on the floor wet 'til evening and are stinking Blush.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 11:12

freckle, i boil wash them, dry them and then fold them my wayGrin
coz there are 6 of us having a bath or shower everyday(sometimes twice)
we have about 40 towels and 10 hand ones

the raggedy ones i keep for when dying hair

Blackduck · 13/03/2006 11:17

Its not just obsessive - its a waste of resources (water/elec etc) as well!

pootlepod · 13/03/2006 11:21

Once a week (we each have our own) but I have met people that are the once used sort.

And if you use it after washing then surely your a*se and bits are clean??

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 11:23

of course your arse and bits are clean after washing but I would not like to rub myself down knowing that someone else has rubbed their arse and bits on it
what is wrong with that

pootlepod · 13/03/2006 11:25

But we each have our own towel, so it's my a*se and bits. Wink Definately wouldn't use DH's for example!

gomez · 13/03/2006 11:27

I am not convinced that DD1s ar*e and bits are in fact clean after washing on all occasions.

In fact DH does give cause for concern on occasion if I am honest...)

DD2 is fine because I am still in charge there!

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 11:35

can I ask the people who have their own towels
do you have initials embossed on them as to know who's are exactly whose

prettybird · 13/03/2006 11:36

Actually - now that I think of it, hand towel and bath mat are done once a week Grin

The bath towels do get done more often if they are looking grubby (they're white! Blush) and I have time to do an extra load (usually only do washings at the weekend).
