Talking with a colleague we got round to washing (not sure how) and she revealed that she does several loads a day. One reason for this is that in her house, whenever anyone has a shower or bath, they get a clean towel, use it then drop it in the washing basket.
I was Shock at this. I change our towels once a week (everyone has their own for their exclusive use).
Quick poll round the office revealed that my colleague was excessive, but it was late and their were only 2 grungy men and a single woman so I felt I needed the guidance of MN-ers.
Sooooo - am I dirty? Or is my colleague a bit obsessive? Does anyone else do this?????

MrsBadger · 14/03/2006 14:05

whew, there's a relief - thought I had to wash all the towels by Friday, now the Fish tells me I needn't bother till Fruday.
Phew!

Clary · 14/03/2006 14:23

Actually cod MONDAY is towel day. In this house anyway. Friday is crikey let's pile that manky school uniform in the wash day.

I used to wash towels every day when it was just DH and I, but now that there are the four of us I wash them once a week in the winter, as they are on a heated towel rail and dry quickly and twice a week in summer when the heating is no longer on so the towels don't dry so quickly but it is easier to dry the washing outside. I don't have a tumble dryer. We all have our own towels, don't like the idea of sharing.

nulnulcat · 16/03/2006 22:25

the thought of used towels makes me shudder!! towels all get washed everyday and we all wear clean clothes everyday, i tend to do 2 - 3 loads of washing every day and the dryer is always on and i iron it all too not towels that is but generally everything else

red37 · 16/03/2006 22:29

There is nothing like towels that smell lovely with comfort- mine get washed daily.

alexsmum · 16/03/2006 22:34

comfort is really bad for towels-reduces their absorbency massively.
as for sharing towels....you swap bodily fluids with your husband and you grew your children in your body yet you can't dry yourself on the same towel as them??????

nulnulcat · 16/03/2006 22:35

nope cant share towels with them and i dont like it when dd tries to feed me with the spoon she has been eating off! i know im weird!!

longwaytogo · 16/03/2006 22:52

I wash mine when i remember. Think the eldest girls get washed more regularly as usually they are left on bedroom floor and when I go in their rooms and find about 3 on the floor go balistic and ask them again where do the towels go when you have finished with them (on the radiator).

mine and dh's go on radiator after use and are dry and warm ready for the next morning, the babies get washed about once a week they bath every other night or so.

I love MN. We are all so different, isn't it great!
Do struggle to comprehend 2-3 loads of laundry a day tho. Not how you produce it I don't mean (10 towels a day would be 2 loads here) but how you deal with it. I do about 10 loads a week max and always feel like I'm in a Chinese laundry!

one load on in morning and in dryer before i go to work another load when i get home and one before i go to bed, weekends its easier as one straight after another, machine not totally full as one load is towels, dd cot sheets she ends up soaking them at night with leaky nappies! dark load and light load if i dont do it everyday i end up with a huge washing and ironing mountain which threatens to take over the house my bedding gets done at weekends along with dp army uniform which is a pain to wash so perhaps do 5 loads on a saturday

Clary · 17/03/2006 00:03

Ah. I get up at 6.30 and go to work at 7.10 so no time to put wash on rack (don't like tumble dryer).
five loads in one day! you must spend the whole day washing!

i do all my washing about twice a week there are 4 of us inc baby.
we share towels and if we think its dirty it goes in the basket, i usually collect all towels that are hanging in the airing cupboard on my way to sort the washing into colours (if i had the space i would def get one of those jl basket things) i think this is normal and agree with alexsmum if we are prepared to swap fluids with partner and carry our children then i think we should be allowed to share towels without being seen as mingers by society.
