Talking with a colleague we got round to washing (not sure how) and she revealed that she does several loads a day. One reason for this is that in her house, whenever anyone has a shower or bath, they get a clean towel, use it then drop it in the washing basket.
I was Shock at this. I change our towels once a week (everyone has their own for their exclusive use).
Quick poll round the office revealed that my colleague was excessive, but it was late and their were only 2 grungy men and a single woman so I felt I needed the guidance of MN-ers.
Sooooo - am I dirty? Or is my colleague a bit obsessive? Does anyone else do this?????

boopert dont forget the unresourcefulGrin

moondog · 13/03/2006 17:00

Sadly uneducated...and its time that could be more usefully employed.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 17:03

moondog are you saying I am uneducated because i wash towels everyday

prettybird · 13/03/2006 17:04

I thought after a bath or shower, you were normally clean?!Grin

Personally I use soap, facecloth and if necessary a nailbrush, to get any dirt off, before getting out of the bath - and use the towel to dry myself! Wink

SO why are these towels getting so dirty? Shock

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 17:08

pb bacteria comes out of the pore of your skin after a bath/shower
hence the bacteria goes on to towel

prettybird · 13/03/2006 17:12

.... ah but not all bacteria are bad for you. Grin

Some dirt is good for you. I think it was Bristol Uni who did research that showed that too much cleaning resulted in higher allergies and illnesses and that the healthiest kids were farm kids, exposed to all sorts.

Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! GrinGrin

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 17:14

pb I might rub actimel on myself instead of using a towelGrin

gomez · 13/03/2006 17:17

Aye but smelly towels are horrid.....

DH and I (to be fair)each almost without fail leave our wet towel lying on shower-room or bedroom floor each morning after our shower - it is smelly by night time. Girls bath each night and DD2 is popped out and dried and then DD1 will use the same towel 5 mins afterwards. So there only 3 a day - not too bad in the grand scheme of environmental terrorisim.

Found \link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/consumer/children_hygene.shtml\This} about the Hygiene Hypothesis

prettybird · 13/03/2006 17:20

Ours both go straight on to the radiator after use, so never get a chance to fester. Grin

desperateSCOUSEwife · 13/03/2006 17:26

pb i agree with article, my kids have not got asthma or execma and go out all the time
ds2 who has sn is the only child who gets washed twice a day as he has a mickey button, unless the others come in filthy

gomez · 13/03/2006 17:27

Fester-tastic in this house Smile

Boopert · 14/03/2006 09:57

Just to add, my son washes every day and is one of the healthiest children his HV has seen.
And my cousin is a GP and she says allergies are also to do with your genes....

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:00

..and HVs are oracles of course. We all know that they should really be running multi nationals and convening on matters of national security and counter terrorism.

Boopert · 14/03/2006 10:08

So let me get this straight.
You can have your opinion on things and if others don't then you get sarcastic.

Ok, so what car do you drive?

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:12

You talkin' to me? Huh? Huh?

Bozza · 14/03/2006 10:12

Clary thanks for the link. I had looked at JL before but they were out of stock on some of the sizes I wanted. But they are now back in. Smile

Boopert · 14/03/2006 10:14

Oh whatever.

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:20

Boopert,I have a horse and cart.
The dung fuels my copper boiler which is used for boiling nappies (and towels).

Crafty eh??

I think that is crazy & very wasteful of water & electricity. We each have our own towels, so there is no chance I am going to wipe my face on the towel that DS has used to dry his bum.

cod · 14/03/2006 13:04

when my mum went to stay wiht an american pal she hid her towel every mornign to try and stop american pal washing it
