Naming a rose after Aillidh?

chipmonkey · 11/07/2012 01:00

Apologies if anyone has already thought of this but there is a company which will name a rose after a person. It costs £150. I was thinking if expat liked the idea that maybe some of us could club together and get it done? What do people think?

Flipping phone ! Didn't see your post that you'd emailed David Austin, well done Smile

rachelfruitloop · 13/07/2012 22:46

What a nice idea, I'll donate!

giraffesCantFitInThePalace · 13/07/2012 22:49

I think she got name a star for her birthday

chipmonkey · 13/07/2012 23:11

Wynken, I emailed those people too. Thanks for that link as it might possibly be better with a Scottish company.

We are heading off on holiday tomorrow. I'll keep this on my watched threads. I so hope something comes out of it.

lunar1 · 14/07/2012 06:48

I would like to contribute, and buy a rose.

chipmonkey · 14/07/2012 23:23

I am going to keep this bumped but don't know if I can do much without these companies getting back to me.

Peter Beale is another one and Harkness have a rose this year where some of the money from sales is donated to something local to them so they may the sort of company who might be receptive.

SecretNutellaFix · 16/07/2012 18:06

I owuld be in.

chipmonkey · 16/07/2012 18:08

A nice lady from Cocker's has actually gotten back to me. Now, the only thing is that they won't be naming any new roses till July 2013 as the crops have been very badly affected by the bad weather. Still, maybe for Aillidh's first "remember day" that might still be OK?

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/07/2012 18:10

Chip can you register an interest now for July 2013?

ajandjjmum · 16/07/2012 18:33

I think that would be really appropriate - it would let Expat know that we haven't forgotten Aillidh, not that we're likely to.

Please let me know when you want some money - and thank you for sorting this out. :)

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 16/07/2012 18:35

That's good she came back, this weather is ruining a lot of things. Did she mention anything about the charity aspect at all ?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 16/07/2012 18:45

Agree actually that July next year would be very appropriate thinking about it.

chipmonkey · 16/07/2012 18:45

Yes, they have done it before, there is a lovely rose on the site and for each sale £1.50 goes to SIDS. And yes , Pistey, we can register an interest for 2013.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 16/07/2012 18:48

Fantastic Chipmonkey, thank you so much for doing that. Please shout when you'd like some money. I think the fact they are a Scottish company makes it seem very fitting.

Lexilicious · 16/07/2012 18:56

I'm in - putting this on my watch list.

chipmonkey · 16/07/2012 19:09

Actually, I think I'll ask MNHQ to move this thread from Chat so it doesn't go poof! Where should it go, Bereavement?

OP posts:
WynkenBlynkenandNod · 16/07/2012 19:13

Yes, that's a good idea.

chipmonkey · 16/07/2012 19:18

Forget Me Not is a rose another couple named after their baby died. It is a lovely idea.

OP posts:
OliviaLMumsnet · 16/07/2012 19:34

Hello, we suspect this may be a long-running thread, so we're going to move this out of chat, so that it's not sucked in by the chat-deletion-vortex.
We'll moved to the boringly named miscellaneous Other Subjects but do feel free to keep bumped.
Thanks
MNHQ

Sitting here in weegiemum's house, she'll be back tonight, looking at a bouquet of pink roses I bought for her, when I saw this thread.

Love you so much, Aillidh. Going to have an orange ribbon etched on your headstone so perhaps when people see it, they'll think about the value of leukaemia research.

I'm so sorry this bastard disease got the better of you. Sad

sassytheFIRST · 16/07/2012 20:15

Expat, hi. Just that- hi. And a hug x

giraffesCantFitInThePalace · 16/07/2012 20:31

I really thought she would live. x

GColdtimer · 16/07/2012 20:39

Expat, lovely idea about the ribbon. I am also so sorry this horrible disease got the better of your beautiful daughter.

Happy to contribute to the rose - what a lovely idea.
