Why on earth would you get your babies ears pierced???

Woman walks into Claires Acessories with her 16 week old baby and asks how old they have to be to get her ears done. Answer 4 months but must have had her jabs. Ok mom replies, lets do it.

Poor screaming baby has pain inflicted on her uneccesarily so mum can show off her oh so fashoinable baby.

Why????

I was so [shocked]

I could never cause my baby undue pain and discomfort. What makes people do this??

its a disgrace

Seashells · 18/01/2006 15:55

This really annoys me, I had to leave 'claires accessories' once as I couldn't bare to see and hear a little baby girl get her ears pierced, she was alot older than 4months too! I just don't get it, it seems so pointless, and so tacky IMO.
When my DD was 4 months, it was anything for a quiet happy baby, why do something to cause the baby unnessessary pain and disscomfort?

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 18/01/2006 15:55

I just stood there in I wish id asked her why she was getting them done now... but instead I went out of the shop to dh and ranted at him about how and it had made me.

i remember when i was in Clares and there was an indian baby about 4 mths old with her family having her ear pierced, my tummy somersaulted and i left the shop but i couldnt stop thinking about all day about teh poor baba

tiredemma · 18/01/2006 15:57

quite why anybody would want their baby to have their ears pierced is beyond me, and im amazed at Claires Accesories policy that it can be done from 4 mths. it looks what it is on such a young baby.. disgusting.

Mercy · 18/01/2006 16:01

Many southern European, African and Asian people pierce their baby girls ears, it's a cultural thing not a fashion. I don't think it's disgusting but equally I wouldn't (didn't) do it.

expatinscotland · 18/01/2006 16:02

aw! poor wee soul. i cry when mine have to go for their jabs.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 18/01/2006 16:05

poor baby having her mom hold her head still so the assistant could put holes in her ears

[[[[shudder]]]]

It doesn't even look nice.

munz · 18/01/2006 16:09

I think it looks horrible on any baby to have ears peirced, but each to his own I suppose.

MIL says she'll get our DD's done when they're small without me knowing DH think's it will look cool - over my dead body will they get them done b4 10.

hotmama · 18/01/2006 16:13

Munz - If your Mil was my MIL - I'd want to pierce her face! How dare she think it is acceptable to do something behind your back when she explicitly knows it is something you disagree with.

Miaou · 18/01/2006 16:16

I would think you could have her charged with assault/ABH if she did, munz.

Tortington · 18/01/2006 16:59

over reaction imo

lovecloud · 18/01/2006 17:13

I think its disgusting culture or fashion - who cares???

Unecassary pain and it looks commom too.

I hate it.

I've had my ears pierced when younger and it bloody hurt!!!

flutterbee · 18/01/2006 17:17

Poor kid, she will probably be off to get a tatoo done next saying MUM or something else just as hideous.

NannyL · 18/01/2006 18:10

OMG the poor child

i cant eblive anyone would do that to a baby

i personally dont like tatoos or peircings of any sort, have never had any, and never will

(luckily my mum didnt pierce me when i was a baby so i could choose what to do to my body for myself!)

I say a toddler the other day about 18 months with the NIKE sign shaved into the back of his head

Blossomhill · 18/01/2006 18:18

I cannot believe anyone would put their baby through unnecessary pain. Hideous

Mercy · 18/01/2006 18:30

It looks common? Hideous, disgusting?

Agree with custardo, over reaction.

JennyLee · 18/01/2006 18:31

well I think circumscision hurts a hell of a lot more and to me it is unnecessary, so I see what you mean, though ear piercing only takes a second. I would not let my daughter have it done untill early teens, but that is because I think it looks odd on babies.

a lot of Hispanic baby girls get their ears pierced, it is more a cultural thing but I would not be doing with it myself. definately would have left the shop too.At least the baby won't remember it.Also I don't mean to offend anyone in any way just joining in the discussion.

noddyholder · 18/01/2006 18:31

Awful, cruel and looks terrible too

Mercy · 18/01/2006 18:34

Don't go to Spain on your hols then. You'll be mortified.

(I agree with you JennyLee)

my cousins little girl had hers done about this age. i saw the mum outside the shop, almost in tears cos she couldnt cope with the baby screaming. so why do it? just odd imo

would love to know what sedative they used to get a toddler to sit still long enough for them to shave patterns in his hair, my 6 yo rarely sits still long enough for me to give his hair anything more than a quick clip
