Anyone live in or know about Weybridge in Surrey?

Spent yesterday driving around SW London and neighbouring Surrey areas as the start of our big move and was very taken with Weybridge. If anyone can give me any informations about the area (good and bad) particularly local schools, best parts to live in, good for families etc etc.

My Sil used to live there. I don't really know much except her children went to private school and house prices were relatively high. Sorry not much use am I really? Keep this bumped someone else might come along with proper info.

Weybridge is lovely though although I don't like Byfleet. May have something to do with an awful ex boyfriend

I worked and lived in Weybridge area for approx 15 years.Living in Weybridge is very expensive,the houses are fantastic but cost a great deal.Loads of good schools-if you need names let me know.

Many celebrities live there as its so close to London but has a country feel to it.

The crime rate is very high-if you leave your car at the train station car park thats a big risk.Also House Burglaries are high due to the type of property.

Hope this doesnt sound too negative,just being very honest.

Lots of boutiques type shops,Waitrose etc etc

It has bad areas to live in but they are in a minority as majority of residents are high income.

Currenlty in N. London looking to get either a 3 bed with study etc or a 4 bed in the region of 400k. Is this feasible in Weybridge "nice" areas, and also what are the schools like (look ing a primary schools currenlty as we have 2 preschool kids). DH would continue to commute into the city so is that a horrendous journey or reasonable. So we would either like to be within walking distance of the station or need another way to get there (does the station have ample parking? is it advisable to leave your car there all day? Or is there a good bus service to the station from various areas?) Also I would for the forseeable future not be working so what is it like around there for a sahm - nct/p&t groups that sort of thing.

Regarding house prices,Weybridge has always been sky high,your best bet would be to look at houses on Internet,You do not get very much for your money if you compare it with say Woking.

Some properties are within walking distance of Train station.Trains to Waterloo take 30minutes and are frequent.The car park may have cameras now
but it is small

I would of thought that the majority of Mums in Weybridge are SAHM,i didnt have babes when i lived there but NCT is very big that i know.

Are you looking at fee paying schools?

Hi Chicagomum. Just seen this. If you move to Weybridge, we could get together for coffe sometime. I live in Sunbury (not too far). Weybridge is very nice. Some of the neighboring towns are not as nice (like Walton.... SORRY to anyone who lives in Walton)

Anyway, does this mean things are looking up with the housing situation woth your DH and hid controlling mum? Are you standing up for yourself? How's work going?

I live not too far from Weybridge and think you will struggle to get a 4 bed for 400k there, at least in a "nice" area, in fact, even in a not so nice area. As someone else mentioned, you are probably best off looking at some sites such as rightmove to get an idea of what is on the market. As Weybridge is inside the M25 it is more expensive than areas close by like Byfleet (not so nice) or West Byfleet (nicer and with some great state schools). With regards to the commute, I think all the trains from Weybridge are stoppers or only semi-fast so if you lived e.g. in somewhere like Woking which has much more frequent and faster trains, your dh's commute should not be any longer and you would get more (but not substantially more) house for your money.

Looks lovely,however does it have a garden? and where is it? i know it says off the High Street BUT get the street name and ill let you know what i really think.
Remember-Location.........

Could be on a short cut,main road, opposite pub.

The price does look low,so just guessing why!!!!!

Hi,

My dp lived in weybridge for a few years. I can't say I like it much, personally. Cobham is nicer - just down the road. He moved onto there before moving in with me. That area has some nice roads and some rough, he says he couldn't be sure which it is without a road name.

Weybridge is mostly SAHMs, being an affluent area, you tend to see that the hubbys go out to work while the mothers stay home and spend the money.

weybridge is full of footballers too. One of the big clubs has its trainign grounds nearby, can't remember which.

Hi Chicagomum. It looks on the small side. I'd be a bit skeptical that they haven't pictured the smaller bedrooms. You mention that your DH needs to commute to London. What about somewhere like Kingston? I think the schools are pretty good. If you can get yourself into the Richmond borough for schools, then there are a lot of good state schools. Weybridge is in Surrey. Some schools are good, but some aren't and you might find stiff competition for the good schools. Have youlooked at the BBC website for league tables?

Both nice looking houses but would worry about parking and location fronting right onto the road. 2nd house garden sounds dodgy (no outside shots of the view over heath or the garden) and wonder if the building to the side is on land originally belonging to it.

CM, what is the criteria for your new home/location? Closer to family (as I recall from a previous thread)? Commute to london? Good schools (primary? state? private? church aided?)

Maybe Weybridge isn't the best value to meet your criteria... or do you have your heart set on Weybridge?

What about Ascot,Virginia Water,Sunningdale-all Berkshire but close to London.
Or Cobham,Esher.

I would look at loads of places-its a buyers market remember!

I grew up in Cobham and despite its reputation for huge mansions there is also a lot of affordable housing, esp down near the station or along the Tilt which is close to the river. Don't know what the schools are like though. there is a terrific primary, Royal Kent in nearby Oxshott, but Oxshott has fewer affordable houses, although there are some. Oxshott is v nice. I never really warmed to Weybridge, but that could be because we were always driving through on our way somewhere else, plus I once had a horrendous temp job there.
