Spent yesterday driving around SW London and neighbouring Surrey areas as the start of our big move and was very taken with Weybridge. If anyone can give me any informations about the area (good and bad) particularly local schools, best parts to live in, good for families etc etc.

Salsa · 04/01/2006 22:14

notasheep · 04/01/2006 22:15

Goodness they are close together-so we havent met dd was 2000(1st January!)

Salsa · 04/01/2006 22:15

Yes just 13 months

notasheep · 04/01/2006 22:16

Look at my name! I am in Wales-middle of nowhere, huge lifestyle change from the southeast!!!!

No regrets!

notasheep · 04/01/2006 22:17

I am guessing you live in Barcelona!

Salsa · 04/01/2006 22:17

So you can't go out enjoying yourself on New yeras Eve as you have a birthday party the next day to deal with.

Salsa · 04/01/2006 22:17

No Portugal. Cascais

notasheep · 04/01/2006 22:18

I spend every New Years Eve blowing up balloons and making a chocolate birthday cake!

notasheep · 04/01/2006 22:18

Quite close guess,do you get yummy sword fish there?

Salsa · 04/01/2006 22:19

I am desperate to return home. We wanted to move back this year but we have missed the cut off to register dd and ds for school

notasheep · 04/01/2006 22:19

So what are your plans?

Salsa · 04/01/2006 22:20

The local dish is Bacalhau which is cod fish.

Salsa · 04/01/2006 22:22

Well ! I am returning next week for a few days and will personally go to a couple of the local schools to see if there is anything I can do. We also have another problem. At the moment they are in a catholic school though they are not yet baptised. The best local school in Shepperton is C of E. I really don't know what to do to be honest.

My little sister is at Cardinal Newmans in Walton which ids excellent but Walton Bridge (what a nightmare)

notasheep · 04/01/2006 22:27

OMG Walton Bridge!
When i was in Surrey to be considered for the local Catholic primary school you had to go to mass in church 40 times and get the priest to sign that was true.!!!

I am Roman Catholic on paper, but dont go to church BUT their schools are more often than not fantastic!

In Wales Catholics are very much a minority so dd is in local catholic primary which is fab

Salsa · 04/01/2006 22:36

When we registered the children here. they allowed them to enter the school as long as we got them baptised (which we still haven't). It is not difficult to do and we only haven't because of family attendance etc. I am not Catholic.
It is a very hard decision.
Another problem.
DD will be 4 in May. The cut off for her to start full time school in Sept is 1st April. She will only start full time in the January or Easter. At the moment she goes all day 09.00 . 17.00. (It sounds a long day but they still sleep there).
I want to return to work and that is hard if she only goes until 12.00.

Just seen this thread and brings back so many memories.
I was born in Walton (a long time ago!) and moved away when aged 3.
I went to Brooklands College between 1981-83 . I lived in Weybridge for 6 years and then Walton for 18 months during the late 80's.
Got married at St Marys Walton in 1984. Worked at Birds Eye in Walton straight out of college. Worked at British Aerospace for 4 days!

Still have fond memories of the area. House prices were high - managed to make a good profit on first flat to then lose it on next house. Great location for getting up to London either by train or road. Mind you, that was over 20 years ago now.

Sadly couldn't afford to stay in area when got divorced.

Happy days! (but so long ago - life is now better with dh and 2 wonderful sons!)

annh · 04/01/2006 22:45

Lots of us in the St Peter's area. I also had ds1 there and had a great experience and fantastic care, far better than ds2's birth which took place abroad.

uwila · 05/01/2006 08:05

Well, this was the reaction when I was busy avoiding St. Peter's. St. Peters

Sorry, Chicagomum. We've totally hijacked your thread. You might not even be interested in maternity unit.

chicagomum · 05/01/2006 12:17

TBH unsure about a 3rd atm but not likely (mainly due to dh's reluctance, but thats another story). The more I am searching this the less clear its becoming. I so want this too work out but am beginning to wonder if we can find what we are looking for.

uwila · 05/01/2006 12:27

Why, CM? I think you've been given tons of ideas on this thread. Don't get discouraged. There is certainly somewhere suitable. Basically, so long as you don't stray too far from M3 and M25 NW London and Winchester are both accessible. Or, possibly, it just means you have to give up being a SAHM, is that something you would consider? Don't you work now?

uwila · 05/01/2006 12:42

Possibly ... here

chicagomum · 05/01/2006 18:59

uwila, thats what I mean, all these extra ideas are increasing the areas rather than eliminating. I realise that after "battling" with dh I/we have to get this right or it could possibly (and I'm not being melodramatic) cause problems in our relationship, as I know he isn't 100% happy about it but does see the benefits for the children and my happiness.
