I won't pretend this thread is anything other than pure nosiness - what are your children's main Christmas presents this year? I know this will vary according to age, but I'm trying to get a feel for what will be exopected of me when dd grows up ... and how much £££ I'm going to have to save for it (gulp)

This year DD (14 months) will be having a ride-on-car and 3 cuddly fimbles as her main present.

ds - 20 months - second hand Little People fire engire and vehicles. Probably some books too

ENIDeepMidwinter · 05/12/2005 09:56

oh I forgot dd2s main pres is Barbie and Me

Blackduck · 05/12/2005 09:57

Ds (2 and a half) is getting nothing from us (had a very expensive b'day pressie this year..) and I'm figuring its the last year we will get away with not buying him anything....Grandparents meanwhile have gone mad...

wilbur · 05/12/2005 10:01

Ds1 (nearly 5) is getting a hot wheels track in the shape of an octopus and some cars for it, dd (2.5) is getting a Radio Flyer wagon as she had a plastic version that kept her and ds1 amused all summer but they completely trashed it so I thought I would replace it with something sturdier. Ds2 (4 months) is getting a teddy bear and a picture of a steam train that used to belong to my father.

BudaBabeInAManger · 05/12/2005 10:07

DS (4) is getting some Lego (half price in sale in summer!), some Brio Smart Track stuff to make his trains more interesting. Books, and bits and pieces for stocking. Oh and a Playstion game and some DVDs.

I have also bought him a Smoby kitchen as I decided at the last minute he would play with it a lot and it would be handy when girls come over to play!

MrsE · 05/12/2005 10:41

DD (8) is getting a telescope as this is what she asked for. It's the first year we've had to spend a lot on the main present!
She has just had a trip to Lapland as well so there will be very little else that goes with it

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 05/12/2005 10:48

MrsE, my soon to be 8 yo wants a telescope too, but I have rather dismissed the idea because they are so expensive and I am not sure how much use he will get from a telescope. Would you mind divulging where you got yours, what is cost (sorry) and what use you think your dd will get from it? Might sway me....

NomDePlumPudding · 05/12/2005 10:51

DS1 (13.5) - Sony PSP hand held game console and games bundle (£220)

DS2 (12) - A new bike (£200)

DD (3) - Sylvanian Families House and furniture (about £90)

janinlondon · 05/12/2005 10:52

Tesco has cheap telescopes for around a tenner if you feel that an expensive one would not be worth the money..?

doormat · 05/12/2005 10:53

8 yo - projector for bedroom
4 yo - lego table

snowgirl · 05/12/2005 11:41

DD (just 1) was getting a wheely bug but my brother's just given her one for her birthday !, so now I'm stuck. Any fantastic ideas for just 1 year olds???

nailpolish · 05/12/2005 11:46

bibi, my dd2 is 14 months also and we got her a ride on car for her birthday. for xmas she is getting a hammer and peg toy, and some books. we still have loads of dd1's toys (shes 3) so she doesnt need much. dd1 is getting a pegasus styling head and some barbie outfits and a postman pat train set (reduced from £20 to £9.99 in toys r us folks!) and some books too

they will both be drowned in presents from family also, so im not worried about being stingey this year as we are a bit skint

welshboris · 05/12/2005 11:48

Snowgirl what about

Trike
Littletouch leap pad or similar
Little Tykes see-saw type thing
Pushalong walker

nailpolish · 05/12/2005 11:48

snowgirl, shape sorter toys are great for 1 yr olds, my 2 play with it for hours

i can see from this thread toys get more expensive as the child gets older

LIZS · 05/12/2005 11:52

snowgirl, how about one fo those wooden cubes with bead frame, shapesorter, and other activities like this

fisiltoe · 05/12/2005 12:01

ds1 (nearly 3) 5th hand bike (£5 donation to charity)
ds2 (6 months) fisher price thing that rolls and beeps (£10)

That's all they getting from us - although clearly santa has a few things - about £10 worth each.

ds1's b'day (2 weeks later): I'm making him a gingerbread house. He'll have so many toys from Xmas, and he doesn't really play with toys. I can't wait - it's as much as a treat for me!

laughinglil · 05/12/2005 12:04

dt's (joint) (20m) ride on train (mamas and papas) that goes round on a track (looked everywhere for it finally got it today!)
ds - train set , colouring books , play doh .. toy story woody, buzz

main pressie is the ride on train that goes round on the track though! can't wait to set it up xmas eve for them in the morning!

OhLittleBitShyOfBethlehem · 05/12/2005 12:05

dd 2 years old is getting a dolly and play dough

MIstletAOU · 05/12/2005 12:44

No idea and no money therefore starting to panic...

MIstletAOU · 05/12/2005 12:58

Killed that one stone dead didn't I....sorry, carry on

Mum2Ela · 05/12/2005 13:02

DS (12 months) is getting a Samsonite wheely pull-along suitcase (serious! think he has far too many toys already passed down from DD) and a Cardiff Rugby Club ball signed by Jonah Lomou (sp)as his 'main' pressies.

DD (3) isn't having a 'main' pressie but a few of a similar price (Barbie head-styling thingamy, sit n spin thing, sticker maker, cd player with microphone).

serenitysaysHoHoHo · 05/12/2005 13:17

DSs (7 and 5) haven't really got a main present this year. They've just got assorted bits and pieces we've picked up over the last 6 months or so. MIL is getting them a Nintendo DS to share though, BIL wanted to get them a PSP to share but we felt they were too young (it's just too expensive for us to be comfortable with it)

Dd (2) is getting one of those 'my first Leappad' things as she's too heavy handed with the DSs one.

Epiffany · 05/12/2005 13:33

ds nearly 12 - ipod , some books he really wants, music - sounds less than what dd gets but actually costs more..

dd -3 leap pad and some leap books, ahh actually she has shitloads of stuff we really go over the top on her lots of books, puzzles, scooter, fridge phonics, infant geomag, baby knex
