I won't pretend this thread is anything other than pure nosiness - what are your children's main Christmas presents this year? I know this will vary according to age, but I'm trying to get a feel for what will be exopected of me when dd grows up ... and how much £££ I'm going to have to save for it (gulp)

This year DD (14 months) will be having a ride-on-car and 3 cuddly fimbles as her main present.

I think (given the DH has done all the research) that we are getting a telescope that costs £150. It can be linked into the computer and will plot stars and auto pinpoint them etc. She will def gets loads of use as she spends ages looking at the stars with her grandad and reading books about them. I was a bit sceptical as they are so expensive, but then if she doesn't use it we can always sell it on ebay
I had a look at the Tesco telescope £50 and it looks OK. Hope this helps.

Thought I'd buy early and get it out the way, just gave me more time to spend my money . DD is 16 months she will have a stocking with art stuff, saucepans, teaset and other bits. Main is an orange (her fave colour) chair from Ikea £40 and a pink CD radio £20, all told though have spent over £100. Will leave shopping til last minute next year.

Well DS has asked for the Millenium Falcon lego star wars... He's been wanting it for over 6 months now... and it's the only thing he has asked for, when pushed to see if he wants anything else he just says...euuuhhhh.... flowers for you mum!

awww sweeeeet... except, mummy is not as well organised as you wondermums, she left it last minute and whilst it used to cost £79.99 on amazon, every shop has now run out (including the lego direct website) so now mummy is playing on Ebay with harvex and is going to get one tonight but looks like we're going to have to fork out between £100 and £110

But hey ho, such is life!

I've just totalled up the money we've spent on dd and to my horror it's about £120 - she's only 14 months old!!!
I was certain we wouldn't spoil her too much and she really doesn't need more toys or clothes, so why couldn't I control myself a little more? From what i've heard from colleagues, this isn't a lot compared to what some families spend on their toddlers.

The thought of having to buy for teenagers is terrifying me - one woman has spend £600 on her 13 year old dd (iPod, portable dvd player, a new mobile phone and leather boots from Karen Millen!) She was telling me today that she's only got to bet her new clothes and then some "stocking fillers" like cds, dvds, perfume etc. I nearly keeled over! She is 13! Am I being a bit crazy here or is she?

trip to cbeebies panto thing - we thought it would be the 'cheap option' but at £80 for the 4 of us, I'm not so sure. At least it won't clutter the house up.
ds1 is 3 and ds2 is 2

I think that is a really good idea morocco

Dd main present is a computer for the playroom, not quite as extravagent as it sounds as I have just bought a new system for myself and she is having the old one.

Other than that an Aquadraw, a fuzzy felt and a few stocking fillers.

Kabsy · 08/12/2005 13:54

Sorry if someone else has already said this - Aquadraw Deluxe - its £19.99 @ Woolies at the minute, which was cheaper seems cheaper than most on ebay (unless you are lucky and get a bargain)

There is such a lot of pressure to spend at Christmas
Mid-november, everyohe's 'bah humbug', then by mid-december everyone's 'who's spent the most'
