" The School gates......and all of the crap that surrounds it"

I have often seen threads on here about mothers at the school gates and various tales of what goes on there. Have to admit i often thought that people were exagerating a little with some of their tales........until ds1 started reception two weeks ago.

Past few days i have noticed the same group of "fishwives" hanging out at the gates, obviously thinking that they are the supreme of reception mothers. Cackling, etc taking the piss out of a few people - including blatently laughing at the classroom assistant who has a squint. Today, I was waiting for ds to come out and one 'banshee' decided that we must all be interested in the following -

  • she hasnt had 'it' since may.
  • she has been having text sex with some bloke from a local shop.
  • bloke from local shop wants to meet up tonight for 'it'
  • she is going to go home, have a bath and 'de-fluff'

is this how its going to be for the next 6 years? am i really going to have to stand and listen to crap while waiting for my son.

really, i though the school gates thing was just a bit of a joke men come up with about mothers chatting at the gates. is it really about a bunch of heckling old women seeing who can be the loudest???

You have my deepest sympathies. I feel exactly the same and have found it getting worse.
We even have to walk through a fog of smoke passing the gates which is totally out of order in my opinion.

I hate the "look you up and down to see what your wearing" group that always stand at the front. Pointless!

Bagpuss30 · 29/09/2005 16:59

Our school sounds the same cod, except there are cliques. Feel very bored of it all already. Also am number one strage parent for having three (shock horror) children under 5 and actually missing them in the day.

Bagpuss30 · 29/09/2005 17:00

sorry should have said "strange".

Kidstrack2 · 29/09/2005 17:11

I tend to keep to myself at school when collecting ds, its all cliques of working mums, stay at home mums, tarty mums, snooty mums and to be honest I don't fit into any of them, well I am a stay at home but that lot don't speak to me maybe I have horns growing out my head and fire ripping from my back passage I've yet to work it out! lol

I dragged dd1 through the playground once (we were late) she was crying then I dropped the plate of cakes I had made for the bring and buy and dd2 stepped in them

quite hard to get my 'cool' back after that

Your lucky, I work and never get to the school gate, not that I want to see these awful women. But I miss out on everything thats going on, the school only seems to cater for people who are there and can read the notice board. I'd give anything to see my dd finish school.

Nightynight · 29/09/2005 17:48

like you lucy I work, and rarely see the school gate but when I do.............I HATE IT!
I have lurked in my house and scuttled along late before now just to avoid them.

what a relief to admit it.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2005 17:52

Never noticed anything like this at ours.

Marina · 29/09/2005 17:55

I find WOTH a good school gate cop-out too. The people I see daily at the school are the fabulous cleaners, after-school supervisors and occasionally the lollipop lady, who sometimes hangs around to play footie with ds.
When I do go along, the inevitable cliques and drama queens are much in evidence, but there is always someone nice to chat to as well. Most of the parents in ds' class are lovely probably because I see them for birthday party-time drinkies occasionally rather than day in, day out

doormat · 29/09/2005 17:56

very like our school gates
did the gobby one have a juicy trackie on as most of them do

spidermama · 29/09/2005 17:57

If it's like this for parents thrown together, what's it like for the poor kids six hours a day, five days a week?
God help them!
