" The School gates......and all of the crap that surrounds it"

I have often seen threads on here about mothers at the school gates and various tales of what goes on there. Have to admit i often thought that people were exagerating a little with some of their tales........until ds1 started reception two weeks ago.

Past few days i have noticed the same group of "fishwives" hanging out at the gates, obviously thinking that they are the supreme of reception mothers. Cackling, etc taking the piss out of a few people - including blatently laughing at the classroom assistant who has a squint. Today, I was waiting for ds to come out and one 'banshee' decided that we must all be interested in the following -

  • she hasnt had 'it' since may.
  • she has been having text sex with some bloke from a local shop.
  • bloke from local shop wants to meet up tonight for 'it'
  • she is going to go home, have a bath and 'de-fluff'

is this how its going to be for the next 6 years? am i really going to have to stand and listen to crap while waiting for my son.

really, i though the school gates thing was just a bit of a joke men come up with about mothers chatting at the gates. is it really about a bunch of heckling old women seeing who can be the loudest???

Er... good fun if I remember my school days correctly!

HappyDaddy · 30/09/2005 08:23

I'm quite looking forward to my dd going to school, being a bloke I'm sure I'll be the main topic of derision. After all, all men seen with their children are paedos arent we? LOL

Freckle · 30/09/2005 08:35

Oh no. There are a number of dads who drop off and collect their children at the boys' school - grandads too. I've never heard anything said against any of them. Quite nice to chat to a bloke rather than mums now and again.

Cam · 30/09/2005 13:00

No happydaddy you'll be pleased to hear that men get special treatment at the school gate both from mums and teachers viz. the other thread about grown women in the 21st century etc

After all, aren't men being good to do the school run

marthamoo · 30/09/2005 13:03

I just ignore the awful ones and smile and say hello to the nice ones. They all hate me 'cos I am so slim and gorgeous and have the most beautiful children anyway.

tegan · 30/09/2005 13:05

dd1 started juniors (year3) a couple of weeks ago so I'm not surrounded by clicky mums anymore, but when dd1 was in year 1 and I was pregnant another mum grabbed me dragged me out of the class and had a right go at me for apparently slaggin her off, I couldn't believe it as I had never spoken to or about the woman. it's all too bitchy for my liking

HappyDaddy · 30/09/2005 13:09

Cam, come on now, us men should be knighted simply for returning home after work!

twirlaround · 30/09/2005 13:15

god help you
it's not like that at our school...low key friendliness & general chatter re weather etc

jodee · 30/09/2005 13:21

so what clique do I fall into then if I WOTH but am also a Drop-Off-Pick-up Mum? Can't say I've noticed any sniping/heckling groups so far..

and I just keep my options open and speak to everyone!

MrsBubsDeVere · 30/09/2005 13:25

There are terrible cliques too add dd1's school. They too stand outside school gates laughing at people (and unfortunatley, I am one of them who gets laughed at because of my size), what's makes it harder is that they don't try to hide the fact they are laughing at me.

The infants and junior school are now next to each other and the infants finish 10 minutes before juniors, so when I come out of school other mums are waiting for juniors, but, the waiting mums stand outside the school gates in the middle of the path which means that I have to walk in the middle of the road with dd1 and dd2, there are also a few people who take their dogs and one of them is quite yappy and frightens dd2 and the owner lets it sit in the middle of the path so again, we have to walk into the middle of the road.

The traffic is atrocious, on the first day back after the school holidays I nearly got hit by a car, more often than not it is gridlock and the school does nothing about it.

bea · 30/09/2005 13:26

thank god it's not like that at ours.... (dd has just started recpetion) so far anyway... it's really nice and very chatty and generally ver friendly... however i maybe oblivious to all the horrible stuff... who knows???

Can anyone tell me what WOTHing is? (According to ds it's putting one hand under your armpit and bringing your other arm down swiftly to make a farting noise. Hope that's not what Marina's doing at the school gates )

We've just moved and I'm having to psyche out the whole school gates thing for a second time. I have to say, I do find it a bit odd that the same mums stand in little groups, chatting, while it's obvious that I'm new and don't know anyone, but no one says anything. I'm sure if a new child had joined ds's old class and the new mum was standing on her ownn at pick up time, I'd smile or say 'how's he settling in' or something.

Everyone very friendly and pleasant here .

twirlaround · 30/09/2005 17:48

Is it isolated village communities with a lot of SAHMs which have this sort of problem?

Cam · 30/09/2005 17:51

ooo twirlaround its terrible out here in the sticks...........

puff · 30/09/2005 17:53

it feels funny to be on the other side of the fence.......looking in at the teacher instead of looking out at the parents !
