Tea Room the Twelfth

Come in, come in, to Tea Room the Twelfth! We now inhabit a rambling log cabin, surrounded by mysterious pine forests and mist-covered mountains (but also, strangely) easily accessible by regulars, new-comers and passing bishops, ferried in by Mellors driving the troika. All the usual rules apply and all are welcome!

Absolutely lashing it down with snow here - now well over a foot in places. Wow! Next door have built an igloo!

mistlethrush · 06/01/2010 16:03

Must ring my parents later Amber as they're in the same neck of the woods sort of...

How's the dog coping?

I've invited PandaEis over to pop in, so if you see her, can you offer her one of these gingerbread squares (rather squelchy in the middle ) and a cup of tea? (Or if she's in later one of those gingery concoctions that were around last night?)

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 06/01/2010 16:09

We were supposed to have 40cm of snow overnight. We had a max 4mm, which came about lunchtime!

mistlethrush · 06/01/2010 16:13

I saw a thread from someone in MK bewailing the fact that they seemed to be the only place in the country with no snow!!!

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 06/01/2010 16:14

We're in the midst of a blizzard!

I've invited Kitchens to pop in too, so perhaps we'd better get a fresh batch of lebkuchen into the aga?

Catitainahatita · 06/01/2010 16:41

So I'm guessing you all are southerners then? (Apart from Mistle who I am sure is from Yorkshire ...?) The snow arrived yesterday and the day before in Scotland and N England I think. My sis had lots of inches in Falkirk and my parent's car had 12 inches on it yesterday morning! It just froze over night there.

I'm sending lots of warm thoughts to you all and chucking more logs on our nice open fire.

I'm extremely glad that I'm here, cold as it may be. I am such a wimp with the cold....

Kittenito is 2 today. He's having a party at nursery. We left a camara, so perhaps I shall have some pics to show off with later.

Good idea about the duvet, Racing and Madbad. I think I shall try and get one next time I pop (!) to Texas.

Jacksmama · 06/01/2010 16:52

Happy birthday to Kittenito!!!

How are you all? No snow here. In fact, I see blue sky .

amberlight · 06/01/2010 16:55

Blizzard has stopped here for the moment...
Small dog has decided he absolutely loves the snow. Bounding about in it like a demented thing on springs, bless 'im!

mistlethrush · 06/01/2010 18:18

Previous terrier cross we had also loved the snow WHEN she wanted to be out in it - but not last thing at night when she'd tiptoe the bare minimum distance away from the backdoor to do what she had to door and rush back in... . Mistledog quite likes it, although she says that she's now too mature to rush about like a spring hare.

We've not had any snow this afternoon, and the roads were not too bad - but, even on a major arterial road which had definitely been gritted, there was still an amazing amount of snow in evidence when I travelled home a bit early.

Dh is threatening to cook treacle tart this evening (I think) - and in fact, it would probably go quite well with those ginger concoctions from last night, together with some nice clotted cream, or icecream, or custard, whichever you fancy.

I'm glad to see that Mellors got all the decorations down in time, although I see that the NMBs don't seem to take 12th night seriously and are still wandering around with various sparkly additions to their fur garments. The ugg boot style toghether with a fur loin cloth is quite an interesting effect, particularly when topped with lopsided angel wings and a crooked halo....

CMOTdibbler · 06/01/2010 19:17

cat2 was seen bouncing around the green again this afternoon, pretending to be a snow leopard and scaring children by jumping on their igloo (tis quite impressive actually). Cats 1 and 3 are not impressed, but cat1 is the ineffable sort who likes to reign supreme from the dining room table (a cat basket being seem as the key feature in Homes and Gardens this month I know), so this is not a suprise

UniS · 06/01/2010 19:22

small dog in deep snow and long bog grass tusocky ness was good. could only see where small dog was by teh shaking of grasses, and when small do emerged she was covered in snow with lumps of it stuck to her ears.

Sledging was good, ditto snowball fights.

saw a small bunch of kids trying to tow a sledge behind a mountain bike alomg a snow covered lane. one lad had a snow board out on teh hill and another had a skateboard deck with some rope loops for his feet!

DontCallMeBaby · 06/01/2010 20:03

Is Mellors still doing those massages? I've walked all of 6.5 miles today (to work and back) and feel about 100 years old. Bah.

mistlethrush · 06/01/2010 20:08

DCMB - I think he's set up a table behind that screen over there - and I know that there are plenty of nice warm towels warming by the fire...

MellorstheGardener · 06/01/2010 20:46

Ladies, tonight I am offering some special treatments in the tea room spa.

For those who want the authentic Scandinavian sauna experience, we have the sauna and steam room, followed by a naked plunge into the deep, fluffy snow and a bracing rub-down with birch twigs. For those who want something more relaxing, I am offering the usual range of aromatherapy massages (with or without hot stones), shoulder rubs and foot soaks.

DontCallMeBaby - would you like to be first? Please step this way.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/01/2010 21:53

I am feeling somewhat weak around the knees. Do you think that Mellors' soothing massage might help?

PandaEis · 06/01/2010 22:05

as mistle has kindly extended an invitation i thought i would pop in and have a nose

i am usually quite a happy chirpy optimistic poster but i may be a sad sack for a while so tell me to sod off get away if i am being too mrs doom

CMOTdibbler · 06/01/2010 22:15

You are just in time Panda, our lovely butler/gardener/handyman/masseuse Mellors is flexing his hands ready for your massage..

And there is always cake and drinks here - they have no calories and no allergenic properties either.

Would you like bolly with your gingerbread, or a little of my winter warmer - ginger wine and whisky, topped up with hot water and lemon

PandaEis · 06/01/2010 22:34

ooo sounds good what does this super-masseuse look like then?? or is that for me to decide i am thinking this

i pulled a muscle in my back earlier so i could do with a massage

i would happily have a nice ginger whiskey thingy and i offer some home-made chocolate truffles and a hearty chicken, leek and barley soup in return

DontCallMeBaby · 06/01/2010 22:49

yes ... soup ... whiskey ginger mellors please thank you please ... zzzz

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/01/2010 22:55

Well, PandaEis, as you have surmised, each of us sees somethingone different when we look at Mellors. It has been suggested that he looks like Wesley Snipes or Sean Bean, but to me he looks like this.

Mellors has magic, healing hands, so do join the queue for a massage!

The tea room is generally a chirpy place (especially once we have cracked open the Bolly or downed a few of Cmot's winter warmers ) but it's also a place in which you can have a grumble when you need to. We've all arrived here from different places, if you get my drift, and there's nearly always someone who's been where you've been (or somewhere close to it). And as you've already grasped the essentials - that Mellors looks however you think he should look and that cake, chocolate and soup are always welcome - I think you could be very happy here.

And who is that Nice Young Man whose photo you posted?
