A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

Night night all

amber32002 · 13/02/2009 06:34

I hope people don't mind if I take a couple of slices of cake from the tea room to sustain ds and I today in the journey back and forth to see dh? Thank goodness for half term next week. Less to-ing and fro-ing to school at the very least. Especially in the snow.

Safe journey Amber! Speedy recover to MrAmber.

Tea - can I join you for tea and toast this morning please?

Dh has an interview TODAY for a job which would be good, please can everyone send him positive vibes and cross fingers at 2pm? It would be such a relief if he got a job, even if he then starts looking for the next one almost straight away...

daisy99divine · 13/02/2009 09:56

Interview vibes coming your way Mistle!
good luck to DH!

And special driving luck and hospital luck to Amber, lol at Tea's jam!

Sorry to miss evening drinkies, I only really log on when I am working and so I am a day or late night sort of person, not been on in evenings much so obviously not working hard enough!

Not member of facebook or bebo or any such stuff because I can't cope with yet more places to check, I still rely on text and phone and email and am, glory be, in the printed phone book so not that hard to track down I suspect!!!

sending getting well vibes too all who need it, we are ok here, well I am ignoring my persistent cough but worried about yor DH racing?

it's funny isn't it, terms or half terms are just long enough for eveyong to hang on for a week of, get ill and then be fit to return again!
CMOt how to you feel about ex being in touch? nad I saw a fab dress in Monsoon, not online but actualy saw in proper shop! It's almost black very dark chocolate brown with cross top an aplique large white floewrs and bright bluw sash. That sounds yuck but it isn't! It was £85 so perhaps too much? but perhaps not for special occasoin? I drooled rather!!

Daisy ponders whether she should put a spelling dictionary out in the tea room for her to read in idle moments

feeling anxious with so many teachers around!

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 13/02/2009 10:58

Can it be a proper OED Daisy? The one that comes in several volumes and gives the derivation of words, pronuciation and stuff? I don't know whether Amber has tried venturing out of the car specification manuals into dictionaries or whether that would Not Be The Same Thing...

Its nice and sunny here this morning - what's it like elsewhere?

amber32002 · 13/02/2009 12:32

(Amber's collection of dictionaries, encyclopaedias, reference guides and sundry related items could easily rival that of the British Library )

Sunny here so far. Off to the hospital again in a minute or two.

Racingsnake · 13/02/2009 12:36

Drizzly but clearing up.

I love dictionaries with derivations in.

I note Mellors is very keen on reading at the moment. Makes a good change from previous activities.

Waves of smooth journey / good interview / quick recovery vibes to all of you. Please send some back to RacingRabbit. (A bit worried about dh but he is not sitting motionless and starving over a delicious pile of grapes and carrot peelings. He is up and out at work.)

daisy99divine · 13/02/2009 12:53

There, that's better!

Oh, Racing, happy loving and wonder vibes to poor old RacingRabbit. Somehow a fellow lapin with a pancake on the head doesn't seem quite appropriate

Who's for soup? Tomato and basil today!

Sunny but still damp (as I found out when DB and I sat on the ground for a nanosecond )

Daisy - you need to get some waterproof-backed blankets for that - or, if push comes to shove - some sturdy plastic bags - the reuseable ones are usually quite good and some will fold small enough to fit in your pocket - then you can sit down anywhere and Daisyboy will only get muddy knees when he gets up (I know this from MJ!).

1/2 term next week - MJ really needs it - he is running on low at the moment. MiL is coming on Sat and is staying until Tues to help out a bit (so might need to come on for a bit of a moan when she wraps ds up in his duvet and lots of blankets that she has taken out of the cupboard, even though she's been told how few bedclothes he really needs, or spends morning cleaning and tidying with ds in a 'I told you it was easy to keep the house clean and tidy' way but fails to walk the dog - the only really essential thing to do etc etc etc!!)

Dh in interview at the moment. Nail biting!

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 13/02/2009 15:36

All fingers, toes and extremities crossed here for MistleMan.

And positive vibes to all the sick and afflicted and those visiting them or caring for them!

cmotdibbler · 13/02/2009 16:48

rather belated fingers crossed for Mr MT, and a reassuring pat for Racingrabbit

Meeting, was as expected, dire. It is apparently All Our Fault that they don't have enough time to do what they allege they need to (which is three times as long as anyone else would take). Nothing to do with the building being 5 months behind, no, not at all.

Daisy - no, that dress sounds fab and a good price. I shall brave Monsoon tomorrow. Thing with ex is odd - we weren't together very long as a relationship, and he dumped me for his now wife. Which was fine as we were friends for a long time before, and some time after. It was just the effusiveness that perturbed me as it wasn't him iykwim

mistlethrush · 13/02/2009 18:51

Well, apparently the parting shot was 'that was enjoyable' so dh is fairly positive - but won't find out about second interviews until 2wks time...

Racingsnake · 13/02/2009 19:51

Got home and found RacingRabbit cold and sleepy out in his run. Have tucked him up with some straw and Pig for company in Aged Parent's sitting room by the radiator. Don't think he will be with us in the morning.

Off to spend evening in RL; share my champagne out between you!

UniS · 13/02/2009 20:04

Thank for the champagne RS. Here to a nice cosy last night for RR, RP s excused all twiglet eating duty's as he has a far more important job as a companion.

Porrly boy a bit better during the morning, backl to being weakly once he woke from a nap at 5ish. now in bed. hope he doen;t wake up at 4am crying for milk and food again like he did this morning.

Mybe I should just sleep here tonight. Pass us a blanket and I'll curl up on the sofa.

mistlethrush · 13/02/2009 20:36

and Sorry to hear your news RS.

Donk · 13/02/2009 21:37

Sorry to hear about RR - I'm glad RacingPig is keeping RR company.

Sympathy and carrots to UniS for the lack of sleep.

Anyone else want a carrot? Or a cup of tea?

cmotdibbler · 13/02/2009 21:49

Were there any carrots left Donk ?

My physicists today were the sort who give us all a bad name... At least it was too cold for socks and sandals

ThumbLoveWitch · 13/02/2009 22:31

so to hear about RacingRabbit - it's horrid when the furry ones depart, isn't it. The last ThumbPig had a night a bit like that - had to be seriously tempted to take even a mouthful of all her fave foods and the next morning she was no more.
Sorry, RacingSnake - I hope you have better luck with RRabbit.

mistle - hope it all goes well with your DH

and I hope all you poorlies start to feel better soon!

amber32002 · 14/02/2009 07:21

I think a batch of chocolate chip muffins often helps. I'll make some.

Catitainahatita · 14/02/2009 18:16

Muffins sound great. Are they ready yet Amber?
I hope you are all having a good day and that poorly people are not so poorly anymore.

I had a bit of crap week myself. Ds and I went on my course in Cuernavaca. DS stayed with my SIL and her DS (9 months). The course was awful, but DS had a good time until Thursday morning when he awoke with a raging temp (38.5 oC). The poor wee lad has a throat infection and bronchitis... and is not a happy bunny.
The journey back was not fun for either of us (8 hours by coach and plane) and not much sleep has been had at all since Thursday.
The Dr. prescribed suppositories with paracetemol and something else as well as antibiotics. What a nightmare... DS is so traumatised the now that whenever I change his nappy he has hysterics.
He's finally down for a nap. Lets see how he gts on.

Catitainahatita · 14/02/2009 18:24

Has just woken up. Never mind. See you all later

mistlethrush · 14/02/2009 19:41

All this poorlyness is catching... for everyone that is coping with it.

MiL is coping with MJ who is telling her how things should be done.

Glass of champagne?

Racingsnake · 14/02/2009 19:57

This poorlyness is definitely catching! I now have Horrible Stomach Bug. Don't think I want to think too much about little savoury party snacks.

And dh took me and WS out for luch for Valentines Day. He had lamb casserole with mashed potato and I had a quarter of a ham sandwich shared with WS. Still, it's the thought that counts.

Especially since he has just discovered that his (not at all ample) savings have diminished by one third over the last year. No doubt contributing to some banker's second fourth skiing trip. On the Friday satirey thing on radio 4 last week (can't think of the title due to poorlyness), they suggested that, as many banks are now nationalised, bankers must also be a national resource and could be ground up and used for filling in potholes.
