Episode 34 - The Tearoom moves to New England

beanandspud · 22/09/2012 23:25

At this time of year New England is famous for its glorious foliage as billions of leaves change from green to a kaleidoscope of colours. The air is crisp and cool ? perfect for hiking, biking or a drive along back roads, where farm stands are piled high with crunchy apples and orange pumpkins.

Everyone is welcome. There are tea, cakes and wine aplenty so pull up a comfortable chair and join us.

The usual rule applies - no fisticuffs please!

Happy Friday!

Scout19075 · 19/10/2012 19:34

Wine?

UniS · 19/10/2012 19:54

YES. Please Wine I am grumpy. I had a bad lunchtime at work ( never good when you get bitten and covered in some one elses blood - 2 separate incidents ...) seem to have been chaseing my tail all afternoon and now have a head ache.

I shall go to teh pub later. This may help my mood.

mistlethrush · 19/10/2012 19:59

Yes please too. I started work (at the office) at 6.40am yesterday, and stopped at 11.05pm. Today I started at 6.45. I've run out of steam - but can't go on holiday until I've finished my proof of evidence and got all the appendices into order. Oh - and I've got to write a summary too, just for kicks. I think I will be picking up the first few paragraphs and conclusions from every section and putting them in..... I think I'll give up for this evening as I'm unlikely to achieve much - and go to bed at a reasonable time so that I can start bright and bushy tailed (yeah, right!) tomorrow.

Good luck with tomorrow CMOT!!!

CMOTDibbler · 19/10/2012 20:07

Have a Wine and twiglets UniS and MT. Guaranteed to lift the mood of anyone, and I see Mellors is making little twiglet porcupines for our amusement too.

We are very excited about the greyhound test drive tomorrow. The cats have all been warned to play nicely

mistlethrush · 19/10/2012 20:21

CMot, can you find out if they've got any young lurcher bitches that we might want to look at please? We've had a home check from Lurcher Link.

CMOTDibbler · 19/10/2012 20:41

I'll ask as they are partnered with another centre - this one is just greyhounds, pretty much just from the track which is v nearby.

Interestingly, the GRWE lady said that the hairy lurchers get snapped up straightaway

mistlethrush · 19/10/2012 20:46

I've made contact with GWRE - they had a gorgeous girl on their website but I understand she's already reserved. We're not hung up on coat or colour - what we want is the right character to fit the family (which of course requires the dog to be really happy to play with DS)

Scout19075 · 20/10/2012 18:12

YAY for Saturdays!

CMOTDibbler · 20/10/2012 18:39

Luvverly day here. And theres a dog snoozing in this house !

mistlethrush · 20/10/2012 21:46

I got to work at8.30. It took me until 12 to get the server working (mainly ringing people up, fair bit of grovelling under the server and a bit of time spent donig some of the things that need doing - but not enough)

So I am still working tonight (quick break for a curry).

I'm glad Jake has decided he's home CMot - he's not going to like going back tomorrow though :(

UniS · 21/10/2012 22:08

sound grim MT. would hot choc help? lovingly stirred by Mellors ?

Hurrah for new homes for old dogs.

Scout19075 · 21/10/2012 23:30

I can't remember -- do we have an vegetarians in the tea room? And if so can I pick your brains?

beanandspud · 22/10/2012 00:28

Scout, I'm a fish-eating veggie. Can I help?

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 22/10/2012 09:20

Probably bean. I can't see on labels if certain things are veggie or not and was looking to find someone who could tell me. On my phone so will post a list when I'm on my computer.

QueenofLouisiana · 22/10/2012 19:10

I'm veggie! Dead awkward, huh? One child, vegetarian...there's no hope for me! Smile

Scout19075 · 22/10/2012 20:04

I know which of the things on my list would be veggie friendly in the US and which I'd need to query (years of working in private label food gave me all sorts of uselessfull knowledge) but here, with different suppliers and processes, I haven't a clue!

So here's the things I'm questioning:

raisins, sultanas and currants (they would seem to be to me but can't find it on the label)
(Paxo) breadcrumbs
brown sugar (I'd have thought so)
(plain) flour (again, would think so but....)
almonds (the almond extract is so assuming that nuts would be, too)

I don't want to unknowingly put something in that would be offensive to my vegetarian friends.

beanandspud · 22/10/2012 20:38

Scout, I can't see any reason why that list wouldn't be totally veggie. The paxo website says the breadcrumbs just contain wheat flour, salt and yeast.

Is this for a Christmas pudding? The only potentially dodgy part would be the suet but I suspect you know that already.

Thank you for the card by the way, Small Bean was very impressed!

Scout19075 · 22/10/2012 20:46

Thanks, bean. Actually it's for mincemeat and I already have the veggie suet. But before I started combining all of the ingredients to let it "steep" I'd check all of the other ingredients. I just thought I'd use my normal mincemeat recipe and change the suet but then I started checking packages and panicked.

Glad SmallBean liked it. Toddler is currently in his "red phase" and everything must be red even if he has a box of 24 colors in front of him he digs out the red and refuses to use any other color.

Scout19075 · 22/10/2012 21:31

I put too much pepper in the oil for stir-fry and an hour later my mouth is still a bit firey. Gah! Serves me right.

UniS · 22/10/2012 21:35
Dragon

Evening all. We had omlettes for tea tonight and a very yummy apple sponge pudding ( with golden syrup in). My next cooking new recipe to try is for peanut butter squares _ sort of a peanutty tiffin I think. Would you like one?

Scout19075 · 22/10/2012 21:36

Mmmm, peanut butter. I love peanut butter. Thanks, UniS!

beanandspud · 22/10/2012 21:48

Peanut tiffin sounds good, yes please unidragon Grin.

Would anyone like some chocolate trains?

UniS · 22/10/2012 22:54

ohhhh, trains, my favourite.
