Tea Room the Nineteenth

1000 replies

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

Rushing between points and trying to fix broken technology.

We have Thanksgiving snow!

Jacksmama · 25/11/2010 16:44

We have American Thanksgiving snow. Fantastic... [sour emoticon] It must have slipped across the line when Customs and Border Patrol weren't looking.
Here, Scout, would you like it back??
I just had a rather harrowing drive to work, and am facing a drive to the hospital in an hour, because today happens to be the day I made an appointment for a mammogram. And of course (!!) it had to snow today. Fortunately the hospital is 5 mins away from the office.

Jacksmama · 25/11/2010 16:48

Ummmm... does anyone besides me think it's a bit odd to be Facebook friends with an ex-husband, especially if he was an utter arse during the break-up? Just saw that the ex's name on a friend's friend list.

amberlight · 25/11/2010 17:08

JM, not necessarily, but if he's still being an utter arse (or likely to be) will it just be stressful? Change settings so that only friends can see things rather than friends of friends??

Hope the mammogram is ok Confused

asmallbunchofflowers · 25/11/2010 18:50

Hope the mammogram went well, JBM.

Yikes, it's cold here too. Is there any of that spiced mulled elderflower cordial left? That and some ginger cake could be just the thing. Well, that and toasting my toes in front of the woodburner.

Jacksmama · 25/11/2010 19:21

Mammo was fine. I'd like to say my girls aren't used to being squeezed that way, but having nursed JB this long, they're used to being mauled :o
Seriously - 'twas nothing.

The roads are completely crap here. The worst are the asshats who don't have snow tires but drive as if they did. (Isn't asshat a great word? :o I got it from another thread :o - the imagery is fab :o)

My 3:30 and 4 pm just cancelled. So, the big question. My 5 pm has already emailed to say that if I want to get home before the roads ice over he'd be happy to reschedule. So, do I cancel my 4:30 and go home early? Or do I stick it out and MN do some paperwork?

UniS · 25/11/2010 21:05

what did you decide to do JM??

HAppy thanksgiving to the American contingent. May all your pumpkins be pie shaped. [hangry] is closest To a pumpkin I think.

asmallbunchofflowers · 25/11/2010 22:44

Could this be an aerial shot of a not very generously-filled pumpkin pie? Biscuit

Scout19075 · 26/11/2010 01:15

Food co......zzzzzzzzz.

amberlight · 26/11/2010 10:42

Arrrghhhhhhhhhhh
Went to see chief solicitor person who's actually known me for years to say hello to... to sign a form.

"So, are you a Director of your firm?" he asked "because if you're one of these wives who are just sort of involved for the sake of it then I have to be very careful about the right advice for you". Yes, I set up the ruddy thing in the first place and own it!I put him straight on that matter, shall we say. Hmm

Amber- I think you may have slipped back in time as you entered that chaps office. He may prefer living in a different decade to you and I. Its a life style choice I suppose? Wonder how he powers teh time machine? was there a banana fuelled Delorean car out side?

We had a tiny sprinkling of snow ths morning. turned promptly in to black ice by by vehicles in the, steep, village main road. Its chuffing cold. seems to have just nudged above freezing now, but as we have no sun till feb ( thanks to a large hill) our garden is still white.

Boy is at school for the morning. I have been virtuous and made two phone calls I needed to do about skate park planning application. Now to go and get a grid ref and some photos down teh rec ground. Oh and I've been voted/ co-opted onto teh rec ground committee last night.

Cinnabons, sausage rolls, hot choc with marshmallows and spiced cider are all available on the table. Mellors has dug a path to teh door so you can all get here OK.
Mind amber if you sit on teh sofa, I think she hiding under that blanket.

amberlight · 26/11/2010 12:21

No snow here. Bloomin cold though.
Skate park??

OP posts:
UniS · 26/11/2010 13:54

Skate park, or maybe SK8 prK to get down with teh hip kids man....
for my sins I have become the adult project managing a skate park build . Lads got the funds together, 40k!!! but when faced with planning application paper work they did nothing for a year... I came on board a year ago and have sorted out new quotes, picking a company, finalising a design and now am hitting teh planning app stage. OH JOY.

Must go and e-mail some site photos to teh build co. Have just spent obscene amounts on mapping.

UniS · 26/11/2010 13:56

Bad mummy alert. Have parked boy in front of an extreme unicycle video to let me get on with the "work" mentioned below.

amberlight · 26/11/2010 14:06

Soon they'll have you using a JCB and laying the concrete too Shock! (If so can I have a go on the JCB?? Grin ) Nothing wrong with parking UniBoy in front of an educational sports video, I say.

OP posts:
UniS · 26/11/2010 14:34

ITS SNOWINGGGGGGGG Hurrah.

BIG fluffy flakes. Just broke off "work" a minute to take boy out in it :-)

Back to grind stone.

MaryBS · 26/11/2010 17:34

eeek eek eeek eeek - have just agreed to officiate at my first funeral.

UniS · 26/11/2010 19:11

Cool mary. a celebration of a life. Was it someone you knew?

I've stoked up teh tea room woodburner to maxi twang, tho of course we ARE in south of France so it not actually cold at all tonight. Garlic snails any body??

MaryBS · 26/11/2010 19:40

I haven't had garlic snails in ages - I'll give them a go...

No I didn't know the lady concerned.

MaryBS · 26/11/2010 19:41

slippery little suckers, aren't they? Wink

UniS · 26/11/2010 19:57

and tasty. not that I've had them in RL, but I guess tea room snails MUST be tasty or why would Mellors serve them up.

Boy made a snow king today, not enough white stuff for a snow man. We also have leaves and baler twine in a shallow bucket of water to try and make a frozen tree hanging art work. Snowing again gently when DH went to pub. I'm having a night in with a jigsaw and good book. Might crack open a bottle of something too.

UniS · 26/11/2010 20:10

CMOT - well done ye, you shall be a very well dressed girly, do they do gloves?

check comps thread if mystified.

asmallbunchofflowers · 26/11/2010 23:18

Cor blimey, lor luv a duck, it's cold tonight. Would anyone like a cocoa?

oxeye · 27/11/2010 00:01
