Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

Am in the priest's hole. Some f* brat thought it funny to use DS's brand new trainers as footballs and then hide them, so he's left with no footwear - at the picnic in the park event in the village. Just carried him home, and brought the rest of the stuff home. Supposed to be on till 9pm with fireworks etc. Didn't feel like staying any longer.

JBsmama · 04/09/2010 19:48

Angry for you.

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 04/09/2010 20:14

Oh, Mary. Do you know which little b*gger it was? Is there any way you can grass him/her up/wreak terrible revenge?

MaryBS · 04/09/2010 20:27

No, there were differing descriptions of who it was, but a number of kids knew, I think. DS has been running around playing quite happily without them, so not sure exactly what time they were lost.

MaryBS · 04/09/2010 20:30

And its all very well the meek inheriting the earth - the meek don't want it! Wink

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 04/09/2010 20:32

With any luck, Mary, word will reach you and then you can plot your revenge just let in slip into conversation with Brat's mother than your son lost his new trainers when Brat hid them in the hedge (or wherever).

On a different topic entirely ..... I need inspiration for a nice gift for my parents. Must be fairly portable and I need to buy it in the next few days, so something handcrafted to order in Lapland and then delivered by sledge won't work. Not this time anyway.

UniS · 04/09/2010 20:56

cake, yes, balloon, no, party hat, no. Party bag full of glorious tat, yes. 8 happy 4 yr olds running around someone elses house having a nice afternoon, yes.

Have starting hatchinga plan to have boys 5th birthday party as a joint party at village hall with other families... rather than having them reek havoc in our houses.

JBsmama · 04/09/2010 21:10

I thought I read the word cake somewhere... ?

Am in work so stealing two seconds. Will reply to all the lovely posts about my long rambling post when I can. Really crap day yesterday. Looking at houses was annoying and then DH and I had a tiff. :( Sorted now, but I hate when we fight, and it was my fault entirely, I was being a bitch. I have come to the conclusion that sometimes, I am only a nice person online. :(

JBsmama · 04/09/2010 21:11

BTW - does havoc reek? Of what? Stinky feet? Garlic? Grin

AandO · 04/09/2010 21:17

Evening everyone! Just popping in to let you all know I am still alive. All is going well here at the family home. Frantically writing lists as there is only 5 weeks left until our big trip to India.

JM - Hope all is ok.

Mary - That is not at all nice. Was your ds upset by it or not?

Small - Hmm, I'm not great at presents. I often get my mom spa treatment vouchers for a place local to her. There is nothing on earth that I could get my dad!

UniS - Good plan! I had LittleO's party in a room in the sailing club. They only charged me 30 euro for the afternoon!

UniS · 04/09/2010 21:37

I suspect havoc does indeed reek. today it will have been reeking of trodden in cake and pizza, soggy Wendy house floor and the plastic smell of polly pocket.

Last night at cider and cricket it was the smell of fox shit that two of the kids managed to roll in ( in the dark & long grass).

Marys havoc may have had the whiff of trainers about it.

MaryBS · 04/09/2010 21:58

DS was upset yes.

However we have good news. When people were packing up to go home, they were found and handed in! Yay!

Scout19075 · 04/09/2010 22:00

Have made it from Devon to Berks and will finish the trip home tomorrow or Monday. Holidays are blessings and curses, especially when they are big extended-family affairs.

Yes, have started the letter but have not finished. HubbyScout said I sounded "too American" in my letter so back to square one. Want to post it tomorrow. (Yes, it's quitting my job, not Guides. Won't quit Guides unless it's not fun anymore and it's still fun, MadamG or no MadamG.)

Off to read the rest of the tea room news.

AandO · 04/09/2010 22:08

Quitting your job Scout? Was it time to go back after maternity leave and you have decided to be a sahm or do you just want a different job?

Scout19075 · 04/09/2010 22:23

Yes, am coming to the end of maternity and am going to be a SAHM. Grin Very excited about it. Might go back to work in a few years, but not now. We both agree it's more important for me to be home with BabyScout.

Anyone care for some rock?

Scout19075 · 04/09/2010 23:30

(Have finally got BabyScout's camp pictures up for those FBers. Such a funny baby!)

Going to bed -- will catch up properly tomorrow.

Good night, tearoomers!

amberlight · 05/09/2010 07:57

JM, large cuppa for you. And everyone else.Mary, arrghh re trainers but thank goodness they're back...
Yes please to early morning rock, Scout.
SmallBunch, so hard to buy something for a man and woman together...would they have a favourite restaurant and you could buy them a lovely meal there if you arrange it with the restauranteur? Not sure..
Unis, eeeek re odour!!

Where's Oxeye? And Donki? And anyone else who's not been here for a while?

Today, the church prayer walk in which I'm manning the support vehicle (Flora, the (t)rusty Land Rover). Should be fun.

Hope it all went well, Amber.

I had a sleep this pm. Still feel tired! Yesterday was v. stressful though!

Afternoon tea anyone?

amberlight · 05/09/2010 17:01

Yes please. Went well but I'm now completely knackered.

UniS · 05/09/2010 19:34

feels like we need the stove on tonight.
Any one taking part in next weekends ride n stride event?

I spent part of this afternoon sewing badges onto my blanket. May thanks small and scout. Boy wants a blanket of his own now, to put his swimming badges on . Do you think a fleece one will work or should I bite the bullet and buy him a woollen car rug. Bearing in mind that it will never get washed once it has badges on...

Scout19075 · 05/09/2010 20:30

Someone PLEASE give me a swift kick to finish this d@nm letter! It either sounds too American (which apparently is off-putting Hmm) or too unlike-me-in-a-professional-setting. ARGH!

MaryBS · 05/09/2010 20:34

Do it! Do it NOW! You can have a large glass of wine and a crate of chocolate when you've done it, but ONLY when you've done it and not before!!!

Scout19075 · 05/09/2010 20:42

It just doesn't feel right this letter. (I like the thought of chocolates I bought some Cadbury earlier in the week that I haven't opened yet....)

Scout19075 · 05/09/2010 21:35

Done and printed -- where's my case of chocolates?

AandO · 05/09/2010 21:53

Actually Scout how do you possibly have chocolate that you bought earlier in the week...that makes no kind of sense Grin.

Has Oxeye not come back yet? What about Racing?
