DO BRITISH MUMS CARE ABOUT CHEMICALS IN CHILDREN'S CLOTHING?

FashionAndMumsResearch · 07/04/2026 20:02

Along with the rise of clean eating, beauty, and homeware, fashion may be emerging as the next safety concern.

I'm a Master's student at the London College of Fashion, researching non-toxic childrenswear!

I'd be massively grateful if any British mothers of children aged 3-12 could take 5 minutes to complete the questionnaire. I have to hit 200 responses, which is challenging as I don't personally know many mothers. If you feel like it and have the time, please feel free to share it with any friends or group chats. https://arts.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cLOsTjZpcDVgKWy

Thank you so much and have a wonderful week Xx

HI all, unfortunately, I do have to ask the question about gender as part of research ethics. I'm sorry really sorry if it has caused any offence.

Why can't you simply ask what sex the respondent is?

You're surveying mothers.

Only women can be mothers.

Also, I'd seriously question the ethics of asking people for their gender, which is made-up bollocks anyway.

Wow!

WOW AMELIE!

Pretending to be all chummy with us on this thread, then heading off to Incel & Trans Central (Reddit) to have a pop?

I'm speechless. How dare you!

EamonnFyre · 10/04/2026 14:04

A bit snide to expect people to contribute to your research and then moan on Reddit. As a researcher you should perhaps have looked more at the forum you’ve chosen to question rather than going off to find out more via the famously reliable forum of Reddit. Really not ok.

muggart · 10/04/2026 14:10

your supervisor sounds mad 😂. is this sort of thing (ridiculous trigger warnings) normal at your university?

She should have just started a thread here asking why so many people feel so strongly about it.

bit weird to go to Reddit of all places.

Not really. Everyone knows that Reddit is where the TRAs hang out.

FashionAndMumsResearch · 10/04/2026 14:26

Hi all, I am trying to understand the thoughts behind this better. I have no opinion on this and am neutral. I really just want to learn more because I am young and did not realise people felt strongly about it. I have been updating question wording to try and make sure people are comfortable.
I have no issue with anyone's opinions.

Hi I never once complained, just want to learn more about this so I can avoid upsetting anyone in the future.

Hi, I felt like I understood the feelings on here from people's posts. I only went on Reddit because it is a larger platform.

I’ve completed; I hope you get the number you need. I can’t believe people are getting so far through the survey and then closing it down because of a gender question.

God, people are so, so arsey on here! The OP is simply asking for help, no-one is obliged to give it, just scroll on by if you're so bothered.

It's very clear to anyone who's ever been involved in research (or had any kind of grown up job!) that you sometimes have to jump through hoops to get your project approved. The precise wording of the questions is not necessarily reflective of the OP's own political views.

OP, I hope you've had enough responses. I've completed the survey. Let's hope there are plenty of people who just want to help instead of nit-picking who have done it for you!

Hiii thank you for your kind words and time completing it, I really appreciate it! 😊x

What does "gender " mean ?
Do you mean sex or something else?

Oh just let her collect her research

I didn't get the gender question, thank goodness.

Why do you have to ask it, out of interest? Who's making you ask that nonsensical and irrelevant question?

Good luck with your research, hope you get some good responses (to the non-gender woo questions!) 😊

Oops, you're not familiar with the university ecosystem at all are you? They are absolutely rabid with this nonsense at every level. A real shame.

Take it back to the board that loads of us have hidden for this reason. Starting pointless fights and doxxing posters.

Hi I'm really interested to here about this view point please may someone explain it for me. I would like to hear all sides of this argument because as a student at an arts uni, you don't often come across this debate. I am neutral in this and genuinely interested.

Honestly, I wouldn’t engage. They’ve already smelled blood. They’re not out to educate, just to attack.

MabelAnderson · 10/04/2026 14:51

FashionAndMumsResearch · 08/04/2026 13:29

Hiya thank you so much! 😊It's a standard question that all research has to ask I am looking specifically at mothers, but I am not allowed to assume that means everyone identifies with being female. I wasn't keen on asking it because it's controversial.

Surely it’s irrelevant whether they “identify as being female” ? As mothers, are female. Anyone who doesn’t want to be called a mother won’t be filling in a survey for mothers. If your survey is only for mothers, and doesn’t include fathers, then it’s a female only survey by definition so the gender nonsense is unnecessary.
Anyway, yes I do care about toxic clothing, and school uniform was the hardest for me to get round, all that polyester with toxic stain resistant coatings. My children are now young adults though so too old for me to do the survey.
