Come one, come all for the first Lurkers’ Week of the decade!

“What is Lurkers' Week?” we hear you cry from the shadows…

A lurker is someone who reads threads but is yet to take the plunge and post - if that sounds like you, we'd really like you to step into the light and join us on the boards .

All you have to do is post on this thread to say hello and your name will be added to the Mumsnet top hat where you've got the chance to win your choice of a bottle of Red Velvet Cupcake Baileys or Tanqueray gin AND a legendary Mumsnet Mug - which may or may not be dishwasher safe. Grin

We’ll also be rewarding super helpful regular posters who drop by with words of encouragement for our wet-behind-the-ears newbies.

So come on everyone, don’t be shy and join the thread - post below and tell us what you think about Mumsnet. If you’re not in you can’t win.

Find more information about getting started on Mumsnet here.

Happy posting Smile

Hi I’m not really a lurker as I dip in and out of mumsnet particularly when I have a problem ! Over the years I have found it absolutely invaluable especially when my kids were smaller, and now they’re nearly teens I’m finding myself needing information the same as when they were toddlers !
I’m particularly grateful for some personal finance advice a certain person Tip gave me on getting out of debt (the Dave Ramsey way!) it was life changing and I hope she’s still around !! Tip if you’re there I’m so thankful !!

UnsuitableAvocado · 13/02/2020 07:30

Hi. I'm not new. But like a PP said, I now regularly name change for different reasons.

All I can say is that Mumsnet has been a constant source of advice, info and humour to me for 9 years now. Welcome all and get stuck in!

applemango · 13/02/2020 07:37

Hi everybody, I joined mumsnet 2 years ago after having my second child and have been lurking all this time. I'm normally quite a shy person in public and seem to be the same on the internet too! I'm on mumsnet every day reading the posts but always too scared to reply or comment! I hope this will be the gently push for me to come out of my shell 😄

LokihasafryingPan · 13/02/2020 08:13

Hello! Lurker here, although I have written a couple of comments, but quickly learnt I need a thicker skin! So I'm working on that Grin
Here a lot though, I love reading posts especially parking ones!

nikkialiya · 13/02/2020 08:59

I am a lurker for years. Never had the courage to post or reply to a post but I have learnt so much over the years from the divorce and separation threads which have help me as I go through mines....this is my go to place whenever I need advice for something....there is always someone who went through it with mountain of advice from the commenters.....I chec in daily🙈

Tdaadfb100 · 13/02/2020 11:21

I love Mumsnet! I can happily spend a few hours late on a Sunday afternoon, with a glass of wine, having a good scroll through; reading random stuff out to my husband. It’s a delicious place of wonder, information and craziness. (I don’t even have kids!)

SlingBackWellies · 13/02/2020 12:51

I'm a long time lurker, I posted once, no one replied and I've been sulking in the corner ever since! I guess if my feelings are hurt so easily I don't belong here? I enjoy many threads but don't keep up so frequently lose the plot. I het confused with all the acronyms. Doesn't sound very positive does it? Seriously though, I do find lots to enjoy.

CrackingTheWhip · 13/02/2020 14:10

Hello, I’ve been lurking (mostly) for about 8 years Grin I mainly keep quietly as I know I have family on here and I’m not sure I could look them in the eye ever again if they worked out it was me on some of the threads I’d love to post on BlushGrin

I do enjoy being able to read through all the different threads though. I start with one POV and read other responses and learn so much and quite often end up thinking very differently!

Babiesandboardgames · 13/02/2020 15:29

Hello I am also a lurker!! I have posted two weirdly specific threads today that haven't yet got replies
I always read mumsnet in the past because of its useful advice re relationships, ttc, and household stuff. It's good to finally come and join

AnneKipanki · 13/02/2020 15:42

There used to be a section for unanswered posts / threads . I am not sure where it is now.

Crinkle77 · 13/02/2020 15:45

I do a lot of lurking on here. I do respond to other people's threads but have only posted my own thread once I think. After plucking up the courage I didn't get much response but I'm happy lurking in the shadows.

Greatday77 · 13/02/2020 15:51

Hi I am a long time lurker, this is my first ever post. I have only just recently joined after years of reading all the great posts

TheMemoryLingers · 13/02/2020 15:56

AnneKipanki If you're using desktop Mumsnet it's on the menu if you click the down arrow next to 'Talk' at the top left.

TheMemoryLingers · 13/02/2020 16:01

@Babiesandboardgames I've replied to one of your threads Grin. People have been voting on it but not commenting for some reason. Consensus so far is YANBU.

I'm nowhere near Basildon but hope you find some people who are!

denbyellie · 13/02/2020 17:12

Hey! Today I took the plunge and got myself an account rather than just googling all my worries and searching for a mums net forum 😂 I am so glad I did I can finally post my worries and get responses xx

AnneKipanki · 13/02/2020 18:51

On the app just now @TheMemoryLingers

AnneKipanki · 13/02/2020 18:51

Thanks.

ChrisM1977 · 13/02/2020 19:51

Not technically newbie, but very much a lurker until today under this account. Used to have one years ago when DD and DS were little.

Hello. Here for AIBU fun and games and home renovation stuff, I guess.

Jojo2wyatr · 13/02/2020 22:17

Hi All!
I, too am a semi-lurker in the US....(I've replied on several threads.) I enjoy reading posts from the hilarious posters out there on MN because I don't find that many people 'get' my kind of sense of humour...so MN allows me an outlet for hours and hours of joy whilst laughing my eyes out...My DH never understands what on Earth I find so hilarious. I've even tried to share a few posts that I thought he would find funny...he goes, "yeah, where's the funny part?" And didn't even bat an eyelash...of course, that made me laugh even more!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And the MN staff is just amazing..don't know how they keep up with it all. Thanks, MN Staff...btw, could y'all get a pink dressing gown emoji for the Alphabet Street post started by @OriginalCatLady, please? We are all wearing our pink dressing gowns whilst keeping up with the latest on Alphabet Street and a pink dressing gown emoji would be ever so appreciated.
And another thing I find just crazy is how the DM and that other one actually use
threads from MN to fill their space...that is just brilliant
And last but not least, my DC do not appreciate my stellar advice, so MN provides a place for me to get a pat on the back for my thoughts ( sometimes, anyway)

TheMemoryLingers · 13/02/2020 22:24

I've often had that when I start laughing at a thread, Jojo. I was chuckling away at the pirate thread last weekend but no one IRL could understand why it was so funny.

WhiteKnuckleRide · 13/02/2020 22:45

Hello Smile
I’ve been using Mumsnet for about 5 years and I like to dip in to AIBU a few times a day but hardly ever post. I enjoy reading other people’s dilemmas and seeing other posters offer helpful advice and most of the time I feel like I don’t have anything insightful to add that hasn’t already been said. But I love the humour on some threads and get really invested in the shocking ones that go on for days Grin

I also found the Christmas board really helpful a few months ago and I sometimes wander over and to style and beauty for inspiration.

kljdmom · 13/02/2020 22:49

Hi I'm a lurker didnt realise there were so many of us lol I love reading chat on mumsnet just a tad to nervous to take the plunge and post on it

Jojo2wyatr · 14/02/2020 02:21

HA! @TheMemoryLingers
I, too, was reading the pirate thread and giggling. Yep people IRL think your nuts if you show them this stuff...they don't realize what comedy gold they are missing....I kind of feel a bit sorry for themGrin

Jojo2wyatr · 14/02/2020 02:31

@SlingBackWellies....I didn't know ANY of the acronyms when I first started on MN..Then I found URBAN DICTIONARY.It is very helpful and if not listed there i just type it into Google search engine and most of the acronyms do surprisingly pop up...you must come back and try them. You'll be talking MN in no time!

spikyplants · 14/02/2020 07:56

Hello fellow lurkers Grin

I post rarely as I'm one of those people who has the knack for saying things wrong - online and in real life - but I'm an avid reader of MN, particularly the likes of AIBU and Classics. Many of the threads have me stifling huge belly laughs in my oh so serious workplace!

And you regularly get the knickers of Daily Mail readers in knots so that's more than fine by me!

Don't ever change. Smile
