Come one, come all for the first Lurkers’ Week of the decade!

“What is Lurkers' Week?” we hear you cry from the shadows…

A lurker is someone who reads threads but is yet to take the plunge and post - if that sounds like you, we'd really like you to step into the light and join us on the boards .

All you have to do is post on this thread to say hello and your name will be added to the Mumsnet top hat where you've got the chance to win your choice of a bottle of Red Velvet Cupcake Baileys or Tanqueray gin AND a legendary Mumsnet Mug - which may or may not be dishwasher safe. Grin

We’ll also be rewarding super helpful regular posters who drop by with words of encouragement for our wet-behind-the-ears newbies.

So come on everyone, don’t be shy and join the thread - post below and tell us what you think about Mumsnet. If you’re not in you can’t win.

Find more information about getting started on Mumsnet here.

Happy posting Smile

Im a daily lurker and infrequent poster - the reason I dont post is that almost always other people have responded in a more eloquent way than I can formulate! I love a good neighbour dispute and am heavily invested in"rainy puddles"

RagnarorBjorn · 10/02/2020 19:10

Ha! Jollygoose that's exactly why I don't post but couldn't get the right words out to say it!

NoAdventureNoTime · 10/02/2020 19:11

Hi semi lurker here, I rarely post as I usually come here for escapism, but I was amused before when someone had asked after an old post of mine under another name asking for an update.

Marsbardelight · 10/02/2020 19:13

New to sign up but long time lurker having recently downloaded the app as it's easier than going through google each time! enjoy following many threads although not started any. . . Yet! Grin

Butterbeeeen · 10/02/2020 19:34

Hi, iv been a lurker for a long long time but may be tempted to post more for a mumsnet mug. In fact there probably isn't much I wouldn't do for a mumsnet mug Blush

Unicornsdosparkle · 10/02/2020 19:36

I am a daily lurker of about a year. One of the 1st threads I read was tell me a joke and it literally had me laughing out loud. Not brave enough to start a thread but I've posted on a few. I love MN when I can't sleep.

Whatabouteryallaboutery · 10/02/2020 20:12

Finally posting after a long time lurking! Hopefully I'll pluck up the courage to post again, I love reading the threads here.

Lactarius · 10/02/2020 20:13

Hail & well met. My name is Lactarius and I'm a lurker. I occasionally reply to threads in AIBU but I fear that my perspective tends not to gel well with others...

Hollie182 · 10/02/2020 20:35

I'm a lurker!
I'm ngl, there's not much to say. I'm just typing this for a chance to win the mumsnet mug, I've always wanted one so badly! I've never posted here but I often click on posts I can relate to. So hello! Grin

jaggynettle · 10/02/2020 20:50

Lurker right here 👋🏼 I love the diversity of opinion and admire folks bravery and pragmatism in the face of some really tough situations. I love that folk can reach out and get some really good advice and support.

Like @jollygoose I am impressed with some of the advice given and don't often have too much to add because the army of mumsnetters are already there and on hand!

Fair play, some folk can and do get flamed - but the beauty of the forums is that sometimes it's easier to hear from a virtual stranger than it is in "real life"

I'm getting a bit braver in joining in on posts and have even posted a couple - I value what folk have to say about things I probably wouldn't have the lady balls to challenge normally!

shutupPedro · 10/02/2020 21:00

I joined during my first pregnancy (7 years ago!) and have been lurking ever since!
I have posted a few times but am never confident enough to give advice because, as others have said, someone else has already responded much better than I feel I could!
I'm pregnant with my second now, so am mostly lurking on the baby name boards, and will definitely be using Mumsnet to get me through the night feeds!

Hoolieanna · 10/02/2020 22:03

I read the threads on the Mumsnet Daily email every day (and browse the boards in the wee small hours anytime I can’t sleep!) Have done since my wee boy was born in 2012; didn’t think I could even look until I was a mum😀

I have yet to post on any thread - but this is a start and hopefully there will be no stopping me now 😀 Love Mumsnet - nothing like it.

Unescorted · 10/02/2020 22:21

Please post lovely lurkers. I have been here in various forms since my oldest was a grumpy stinky unexpected baby. She turns 18 in a few weeks. The posters of Mumsnet have supported me and her (she does not know this) through all the moments when I wished she could have been pushed pack in or those moments when we could have both done with a user manual.

Yeah there are parts where it is a bit forthright - but I view it as a place to let off steam. Mostly it is a place where you can sound out other people and ask for views.

For those of you worrying about eloquence and debating skill - don't. Your opinions are just as valid as anyone else's. Just jump in secure in the knowledge that most of us are a glass of wine or gin away form typing shite. Wink

SillyMoomin · 10/02/2020 22:27

A vote for EagleVisionSquirrelWork to win the supportive comment prize Grin. Excellent post

See newbies, we’re nice vipers Wink

And ps. The mug is worth trying for. I got one a few years ago. It’s the perfect width to dunk a chocolate hobnob

ThighThighofthigh · 10/02/2020 22:58

Hello, I'm a lurker, I don't like to draw attention to myself.

bitheby · 11/02/2020 00:40

I go through phases of posting then disappear off for months at a time. Back at the moment to use the conception boards.

Agree with the poster who recommended changing usernames.

ZIGGY7 · 11/02/2020 01:51

I joined right at the start but never posted. What drew me in the last couple of years was reading the feminist threads. The wit and fierce intelligence of the women on there is bracing. I saw a badge a member had made for the recent Women’s Lib Conference. It said, “Radicalised by Mumsnet”. A big thank you to the brilliant women who are true feminists on there. The ones who centre women.

mynxy · 11/02/2020 05:16

I'm a (long time) daily lurker, very infrequent poster. Never been brave enough to start my own thread (but I've never had to, there's always been someone who's had the same problem).

I find MN to be my go-to for absolutely everything I need to know, and lots of things I don't Grin

HathorX · 11/02/2020 05:31

Hello, I've been lurking for a while, lured into posting here by the prospect (however tiny) of free Baileys!

It's 5 30am and I was woken by the coughing baby and a glass of Baileys sounds like a brilliant idea. Clearly after 9 months of pregnancy and 13 months of breastfeeding I'm missing my favourite tipple. Smile

RollingDownTheRiver · 11/02/2020 08:08

Long time lurker here but took the plunge last week and registered. So far only posted once but this one makes two.

fluffysticks · 11/02/2020 08:15

I’ve been around for a few years now but have only posted a handful of times. Spend far too much time following threads!

TheMemoryLingers · 11/02/2020 08:49

Hello lurkers! I too posted on one of these threads about four years ago and got a Mumsnet Brew which is still going strong!

Don't be afraid to start posting - once you have added your first comment, it gets easier, you just have to get over the hurdle - like jumping into the sea on a hot day, it can be daunting but it's lovely once you're in.

For those worried about posting in the wrong place - this isn't something you need to worry about. If you accidentally reply to the wrong thread, this is something that happens all the time and no one will think anything of it. If you start a thread and there's a better topic for it (where it might get more replies) other posters will let you know and MNHQ can move it for you.

RebelliousEngine · 11/02/2020 08:54

Hello! I'm a lurker. There's so much useful / hilarious stuff here, but it can be a bit intimidating sometimes go try and chime in! I just watch the experts and appreciate their sage wisdom Grin

Bert99 · 11/02/2020 10:10

Hello from a lurker. I've replied to comments occasionally but sometimes get a bit scares by some of the other posters tbh.

feckingusernames · 11/02/2020 10:26

Hi...I've been lurking...with and without being a member for a while.

Not going to lie...I'm just commenting on the hope of getting a mug!
