Brilliant Disguise...love the Tunnel of Love LP

frumpygrumpy · 06/07/2009 21:58

I too love Tunnel of Love. Much underrated IMHO. Everyone sweeps it under the carpet as it deals with his emotions about ex-wife but its so good and some of his best, best writing.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 22:26

To be honest, I love pretty much all of his stuff, apart from perhaps Lucky Town Album, and Human Touch - they are ok, but a bit too 'trying to be more mainstream' when he lived in Hollywood. It just was not him. I can listen to it and sing along, but I sort of stopped listening at that point. Well not stopped, just carried on listening to the stuff before.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 22:29

But she was not his ex then was she? Was he not having an affair with redhead at the time? As he was definitely still married to his wife at the time, but have you seen the chemistry between him and redhead in Tougher Than the Rest I always thought they were together then, but if they were he was being a bad man.

frumpygrumpy · 06/07/2009 23:27

I think he was still married when the album came out. I'm sure he credits love to 'the wife' on it but it clearly maps out how unhappy he is/was within the relationship. I think it heralded the split. She has been a model ex-wife mind you! Not a peep of dirt has been dished.

I reckon there was some major 'flirting' going on with red headed woman at the time. But its ok, they were meant (even if he has been cited as breaking up another marriage or two along the way!). You've got to have some dirt in 60 years or else life isn't worth it!!!

Tinker · 06/07/2009 23:30

Aren't they just rumours though about breaking up other marriages? Frantically googled this last time I saw it mentioned on here and my mind was sufficiently put at rest to know he wouldn't do that sort of thing. Except is own with Julianne, of course.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 23:38

Well, they were rumours, but Tunnel of Love came out in 1998? He and redhead had a LOT of chemistry in 1989 tour, he and his ex divorced in 1989, He and redhead had a child in 1990, got married in 1991.

Now, they might not have been 'at it' but an affair of the heart is certainly a possibility. Only they know for sure though eh? I always recall that Tougher than the Rest video when I was little thinking aw they are so in love

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 23:41

Frumpy I have been actually really rather shocked that there is in fact hardly any dirt at all. And the dirt there is, well it is unsubstantiated. Good for him, either he is a model DH, or he is good at keeping his dirty laundry within the family. Not even much info about his kids around, which I think is commendable as is rather difficult to do in the media these days, especially with Mickey Rourke as one of your best mates

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 23:42

In fact, that all makes me heart him even more

Tinker · 06/07/2009 23:42

Tunnel of Love was 87 I think, can remember circumstances of buying it. Patti will certainly not have been discouraging of stolen glances though. Poor old Julianne.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 23:44

I meant 1988, not 1998 pay NO attention to me, and you are right its 1987, not 1988, the Tunnel of Love Tour was 1988. And you cant have a tour before the album right

Tinker · 06/07/2009 23:45

Yes, lack of info re hiskids is good - can't even remember their ages. Read an interview with Patti a few years ago and I liked her. Same skin type so obviously Bruce would have had his head turned by me also

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/07/2009 23:48

Tinker, not the same as my hair colour, but would happily get a permanent dye if that was all it took

DrZeus · 06/07/2009 23:49
