Great song openings

I've just had my Spotify wrap of 2024 and my most listened to song is Too Shy by Kajagoogoo. Don't judge me!

The reason I listen to it a lot is the opening. I think it's a fab opening. Better than the rest of the song.

Which songs do you think have openings that are awesome and maybe overshadow the rest of the song?

Interestingly I had people in my top 10 I've never heard of. It's a bit of an odd year for sure. My top three were Taylor Swift, Skerryvore and Gabriel Faure (classical) but I don't remember listening to him at all!

Pavane by Faure was my wedding song. It's a beautiful piece of music as is the opening

Always makes me think of Alan Partridge 'air playing' bass guitar to Gary Numan Music for chameleons!

Mine is 'same old scene' by Roxy music. Brilliant!

I'd add Velouria by The Pixies. Which also sounds like Smells Like Teen Spirit, another good opening.

Others : The Killing Moon, Echo And The Bunnymen; She Sells Sanctuary, The Cult.

And the granddaddy of all openers - Harlem Shuffle, Bob & Earl (sampled soooo many times ... )
