Dunno, but love the way you describe a twenty odd year old song as "very old"! 😕 Do I feel ancient! 😅

Same here, I was expecting a song from at least the 60s 😂

I was expecting at least 1920s, possibly earlier!

holierthanthou73 · 01/03/2023 21:03

Very old ffs lol

what was the show?

BertieBotts · 01/03/2023 21:04

Do you have the clip of the show?

PillBoxes · 01/03/2023 21:04

I was thinking Frank Sinatra in the Nelson Riddle days. My late Dad bless him was a mega fan and his music was everywhere in our house.

"Very old song" -bah, just for that you should be auto-labelled Very Unreasonable in every thread when it's something less than 30 years old!

Does sound a lot like Stay, as per PP. Except for the forgiveness bit.

If this world is wearing thin
And you're thinking of escape
I'll go anywhere with you
Just wrap me up in chains
But if you try to go alone
Don't think I'll understand
Stay with me
Stay with me

Oncetheystartschool · 01/03/2023 21:05

Is it Stay by Shakespeare's Sister?

Oncetheystartschool · 01/03/2023 21:06

Also agree 1999ish is not very old! I was assuming 1950s or earlier

Lyrics don't fit with Stay
but these threads are a pain because the OP often says "sung by a tall lady with red hair" then it turns out to be a short blonde. And similar stuff with lyrics!

Hobbes8 · 01/03/2023 21:08

Stay by Lisa Loeb is in lots of soundtracks. Lyrics don’t quite fit though.

BertieBotts · 01/03/2023 21:16

Try looking through the Now That's What I Call Music albums from the relevant time period - you often find totally forgotten songs in there. It's an entertaining pastime to run the entire playlist of one from a significant period of your life through spotify (or whatever music player).

NTWICM 42-50 cover the period 1999-2001 and you can look up the track listings online.

Natalie Cole. Stay With Me...??

TangledBlue · 01/03/2023 21:43

Which TV show did you hear it on? Can you track down the episode on catch up, YouTube or anywhere else?

'I'll still forgive' is making me think of 'I still believe' from Baby One More Time, but I'm guessing you'd know if it was that as it's such a well known song. And Britney's not British and the other lyrics don't fit, so yeah...

There's loads of nineties/noughties playlists and compilation albums on Spotify, it might be worth having a listen through those.

Come back OP and give us more info!!

What kind of style - is it croony ballad type? Acoustic singer-songwriter? Dance? Pop? Tortured and emotional?

Highlyflavouredgravy · 01/03/2023 21:49
EVHead · 01/03/2023 21:50

“Very old” 😂

BertieBotts · 01/03/2023 21:56

Well TBF if OP thinks 1999 is very old, maybe she is very young and hasn't heard much of Britney Spears' music.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 01/03/2023 22:02

Stay by Eternal came to mind instantly

Highlyflavouredgravy · 01/03/2023 22:12
JaneJeffer · 01/03/2023 22:15

@Highlyflavouredgravy you having fun there?

hugoagogo · 01/03/2023 22:23

Eternal was my first thought, dates obviously aren't quite right. More info please...
