'I've got the butter for your muffins, I just need the key to your room'.
Justin Bieber couldn't write that, could he? Grin

Its strange but i never thought of him being massive in America. All those years ago i just thought he belonged to us in the underground gay bars of some pokey little town. It never crossed my mind that others got him. I was only 17 and a hipster, in my defence.

Destinysdaughter · 07/05/2016 18:07

Each, me too! He was so unique and part of that group of artists that were challenging gender norms and was so experimental. But hey, Culture Club were massive in the States too!

I've not listened to this but it's a BBC radio doc about hunting for Prince's Vault, sounds interesting...

Oh my god! Love it! And still he is respectful to women. It wasn't a video of half naked women draped over him for his pleasure- like most videos by men or women. He was (thankfully) half naked most of the time as well & he didn't touch another person. Brilliant. I hope more visual material does come out of the woodwork as he clearly wasn't just a genius musician but an amazing performing artist as well. In every sense of the word, clearly.

Organ Grinder ! He was good at the double entendres wasn't he!

Orangeanddemons · 07/05/2016 19:47

When I was at university in the mid 80's, everyone loved Prince. Black/white/gay/bi/straight/punk/mainstream/goth/indie/rockabilly/everyone. His appeal was enormous, he resonated with everybody, and everybody liked different parts of him.

The only person who didn't like him was ex dp. I should have realised then....

poodlefromcatan · 07/05/2016 19:50

Buggar can't watch that now!Envy

Orangeanddemons · 07/05/2016 19:53

But it's worth waiting for Poodle😉. Very much so!

Orangeanddemons · 07/05/2016 19:55

I kept thinking l saw him today (in a Sheffield garden centre🤔Highly unlikely)

I last did this when my mum died 10 years ago!

Hands up! Been lurking! I still think about him every day and I'm obsessed with watching him and searching for new info.
I would love to know (but clearly never will)-
What he was really like in the bedroom?!
What sort of father he would have been?

RedCorvette · 07/05/2016 20:20

Good GOD thanks for that video sam

douses self in cold water

Destinysdaughter · 07/05/2016 20:35

I was curious to know what younger pp thought of/ knew about Prince, so I posted the question on MN. The results made me so sad, young pp just don't know about him and how brilliant he was, apart from songs like Purple Rain and Kiss!! Sad

destiny your thread actually made me feel old with the various responses like my dad liked him

I always thought the Prince was current and not someone who a nobody sings on X factor.

I like the fact that Prince was always respectful to his back catalogue, where as Madonnas, for example, hasn't been.

I always loved their duet on like a prayer, Prince was the star there

Morning ladies, so dh found a complete recording of the one and only uk festival performance in 2011 at hops farm ( yes he's actually fuelling my prince obsession now which is cute) some lovely person in crowd recorded the whole thing so it's easy to imagine being there..it really is amazing, completely flawless and he looks better than ever Imo, and the bonus of watching it before I went to sleep was that I dreamt about him all night Smile
